A girl took off her shoes in my English lang exam and her feet smelt so bad, I wrote about that and got a grade A (did my GCSEs just before number grades started 👵🏼)
I was one of the COVID year students, and I write a story about a woman with her daughter sitting at the airport feeling extremely anxious and then seeing her husband and running to hug him. Got a solid 8 on that 👏 Our teacher also had a go at us after since we were supposed to write a story about "loneliness" but everyone just made theirs extremely personal and he got really uncomfortable reading them 💀
😂😂. I was in the Covid year aswell. I think we all did so badly on the question the first time that they actually made us rewrite a completely new one 😂😂😂
fr my teacher said when writing your story you should remember these markers are getting paid minimum wage marking hundreds of papers and you need to write something relatable
I wrote a story about a bureaucrat finding a severed ear on a park bench, then spiralling down a rabbit hole due to the absurdity of the situation. Grade 9, then I did one about the weather factory, where businessmen pour acid rain on protesters; Grade 7, then I did one about a child describing a room to his blind father, grade 5: go for absurd
As I said to my friend, he doesn't need to rewrite war and peace, just describe a moth buzzing around a room in insane detail and you will get far more marks
No it doesn't. It proves that good short stories turn on internal/character based conflict and resolution. But 100% agree that over ambitious plotting is a real downfall for students at GCSE.
Completely is an exaggeration. Examiner can be biased ofc but they still must mark based on the mark scheme they aren't given full freedom to mark how ever they like. Although there 100% is a good amount of personal bias involved it can easily be overcome if ur just good at writing. If ur good at writing u don't need to worry about ur examiner being biased or anything like that
English is honestly the most useless core subject for me im fluent in speaking english and dont plan on becoming an author ever and if i needed to write formally for a resume or something there is tons of ai programs that just fix punctuation
I wrote a story about a Spider-Man OC returning to the place his canon event took place in my mocks. All he did was look around the room, pick up the spider and then decide to fight the government for revenge. I got 38/40 for plagiarising off of ASTV and basically writing fanfiction 😭
The grade shows the student’s competency in writing characters. You don’t always have time to develop a proper plot, so it’s better to develop and character and their internal conflict than to write a bunch of hemmed-in undeveloped nonsense.
chatGPT could already outdo anyone with a vivid description. A captivating plot always requires more original thought - thus why they try and restrain it so much.
plot takes a long time to create, its not created in one spot whereas just describing the scene and creating the characters is much more easier. It does not need common sense !@@lolasimpson-tg3ig
It's not about the story it's about how well it is written. Personally, just choose the simplest story: intro, climax, and end with the relaxation of the climactic point. Easier yet, don't do a story and just do description. :)
I wrote about a half alien-human hybrid adventuring through an abandoned artificial planet flying through space to find a mysterious piece of technology that could generate infinite energy with no cost. The character got killed, and it cuts to the guys on their radio losing it because they keep on dying, but never got close to the source. 34/40
The mark you get for transactional and creative writing is basically just luck. You have to write a decent story but it could either get 28 or 40 marks based on who marks it
There is one God, who created Heaven and Earth. He made us in His image and likeness. He made us to worship and we chose to rebel against God. As a result we are seperated from God but God didn’t leave us. Instead God sent His one and only Son, His Son is Jesus. He was born of a virgin and lived a life without sin, though He was tempted in every way as we are. He went on the cross and He willingly took our sins past, present and future. Jesus died in my place for my sins, paying my debt to God and purchasing my salvation. Jesus died but He rose on the third day victory over satan, sin, demons and hell. Jesus tells us to share this story of the Good News and there’s a God that lovingly pursues us. Jesus is coming to judge the living and the dead and those who trust in God will forever be with Him in His Kingdom and those who do not will suffer forever in hell.
