I totally agree with you. For non Korean speakers like us, due to the differences in translation, we can't fully understand IU's ideas in the song. In fact, IU is insightful. The friend upstairs mentioned in"you"gave her a nickname called Mountain God, because her idea was absolutely mature although she was only a teenage in her 10s, just like an old man who had experienced a lot.
This album will definitely become my favorite one, because this album is completely about 이지은 , not her as IU. When making this album, IU didn't consider its commercial value. She just showed us her other side in the spotlight. Today, she has officially entered her 30s, so she chose to release her last album at the age of 29 on the 29th, which is a summary of her 20s. This album is the style of lullaby as a whole. I will definitely listen to these songs to sleep in the future,hhh.

@@OGzReacts IU disease is on 2017, if I'm not wrong. Its bcs her appearance in Hyori Bed and Breakfast, a healing variety show. Its not a "disease" as pathology XD its just "trends" made by her behaviour and wardrobe in that variety show.
Its such a wholesome variety show (recommended!!!), and Lee Hyori - IU, they are arguably 2 of 3 most legendary music divas in S.Korea in last 20 years (the other is BoA, of course).

IU is the kind of celebrity/ singer whose main weapon is not so celeb-like : sincerity. This is first thing you need to remember, Mario. Secondly, all of this songs in Pieces are hit harder, Like HARDER if you understand the context of that timeline of IU's career/ life story. Maybe slowly you'll understand, as time goes on and you learn something new abt IU, pls connect that to these songs.
1.Drama. This song was actually written when she shoot a long family drama (You're The Best, Lee Soon Shin, 2012 - 2013). That lowkey sad lyrics can be applied to her character there (Soon Shin), to her career as actress, also to her as celebrity (if you understand her 2012 - 2013 story, you'll know). Well, ofc you can stuck to her explanation abt "friend" as well. :')
2.Next Stop. This is purely deeper if you watch My Mister. My Mister (2018) is rare piece of TV show, a modern classic kdrama. That "between Jian and Jieun, there's a station" sentence only is enough to make any uaena cry T_T So in short : (1)Jian, her character in My Mister is such a strong but fragile girl :') (2)My Mister in the start of airing time got many backlashes and hate bcs of many reasons, but slowly ppl like it and now its considered a near-classic healing human drama. IU also got sick in the shooting time. So yeah, many up and downs.
3.Winter Sleep: I think you miss the lyrics' meaning? XD "you" in the lyrics is already passed away, and in the chorus when she sing "as you sleep", and "tell me when you wake up" ofc actually he/she -- the loved one will never ... wake up. :')
"winter sleep/ hibernation" as title is a sad figurative word abt "death", its double meaning bcs yes "I still cant let you go" but also "I'll let you go bcs we will meet again in next life, when you wake up from your 'winter sleep' "
Its sad. Its nearly a classic and very warm, but sad. T_T
4.you, its for Yoo In Na. Yoo In Na - IU friendship is famous in K-celeb/ K-community. Actually IU can become, can achieve the position she is now, maybe one of the reason is her friendship with Yoo In Na.
5.Love Letter : This is practically IU wrote a Korean folks song in modern era (2020's!!!) XD Actually Next Stop is nearly a folks-ballads as well. Winter Sleep ofc has that modern touch, but the lyrics sensibility also from folks' vibe (seasonal stuffs)
Ahh that makes more sense, for Winter Sleep. I was thinking what the name actually means, I should've googled it and find that it's hybernation.
I did understand that in all seasons, she didn't want to let them go and the cycle was repeating until she did during winter...
so she did because she realised that she will only see them in the afterlife after they are done hibernating which is winter (sleep) here.
My fav are Next Stop, Winter Sleep and Love Letter I think
IU wrote many songs while filming. "You" was written while filming Scarlet Heart. Strawberry Moon was written while filming the movie Broker. If she is going to film another drama we should expect another song.
