Yes, movies between the 80's and 90's have more warmth, they want the audience to have an emotional experience rather than try to outsmart them with edginess.
Not all modern movies are 'cold' of course. Mission Impossible still has that same level of entertainment and Top Gun Maverick stayed true to the spirit of the original.

India had TV in 1985 although from what I read there was only one channel. It was probably not common in the regular villages back then but I am sure it was not uncommon in the big cities. And telephones were quite prevalent in India by the 1980's as they first arrived in India in the 1880's. Again most people in outside the major cities probably did not have their own phone and shared a single centrally located phone in their village as Babu said.

It's also very fascinating how the sideways bobbing of the head is meant to signify "approval" - the very opposite of most European and Western countries (except Bulgaria at least, who also do assent with a sideways head-bob, and up-down bob as negation).
Oh, and obviously this is one of the MOST TIMELESS (no pun intended) movies of all time. This movie as well as Ghostbusters *defined* the 80s. Even the song by Huey Lewis is one of the most iconic songs of that decade.
80s top 5 movies, that literally defined that era: BTTF, Indiana Jones, ET, Star Wars V / VI. There are more, like "The Thing" etc... but that's just my personal top 5.

The premise of the movie was, effectively, that the writer wondered if he and his father would be friends, if they knew each other at the same age.
Which is intriguing. I have several family members that I only have relationships with, due to family.
Edit: "Gambling is one thing..." someone get the sequels on track right away.

Ehy, I'm so surprised to see how in disbelief they are that in 1985 things like cars nd telephones and tv existed. They didn't even mention 1955, but 1985. Also, Babu telling us that, in 2000 (!!!) he had to go into a shop to telephone, in which seemed to be a very old telephonic centraline is... absurd. It makes me really appreciate the Country in which I was born, since I was born in 1982 and, for me, despite the fact I wasn't born in a rich family, I had tv, telephone, my father drived a car etc., and it was completely normal. I even remember watching anime in 1986, when I was about 3 years old, waiting for my Mom to come to pick me up at my Grandparent's place! I still remember the anime: "Mirai no Shounen Konan"! A great anime, by the way, by Hayao Miyazaki!!!

Interesting that you have thought about the gambling angle. That will be explored in great detail in the second movie. By the way in America we had phones as early as the 1880s. We had cars in the early 1900s. We even landed on the moon in 1969. Your surprise of how late in history we had such inventions makes me surprised at how late you have had them in your country. It is good to share are perspectives so we learn world history from each other.

Some people say that fiction is "truer" then reality. The reason they bring up usually goes like this : " Fiction is drawn from reality. Specifically, the more intense moments of reality. In other words, fiction is the abstraction of the most intense moments of reality that are then condensed into a story. That story is so condensed that it seems untrue. But from another perspective, we can see that, since fiction is drawn from reality and the author keeps the most intense moments of reality, fiction is more true then reality. More often then not, we go about our day in a mechanical way because its more or less the repetition of yesterday. If you lived your life like that all the time, we'd say your living dead, barely alive. The reason is because we need adventure to feel alive and what is adventure if not the disturbance of monotony ? Fiction is more true then reality because its a succession of defining moments that we may live through our entire life.

India only started its true economical development in the late 60's. This is when the country was introduced to modern farming methods and synthetic fertilizer so indeed there's a huge difference between US 1955 and India 1955, night and day difference.

Its wild how little has effectively changed for people in the US and other Western countries in the last 25 years - but for much of India its been a technological boom. I miss the time when I was young and I was amazed by new technology - now its just a refinement of something we've had for decades.

By definition, time travel is discovered in all periods of history simultaneously - and that's how we know we'll never invent it, because we've never seen a time machine. Actually another possibility worth considering is that it does get invented later but nobody wants to visit our time because they don't like us very much.
