    1. all those birds look great. 2. i envy your ease with handling them. i still have trouble getting a good hold on a pigeon with my hands, and i think the pigeons know... lol and 3. that hen, omg such a beautiful girl

    Interesting, Frank. I don't know about "confirmation" or relationship of vent to body.

    Very nice birds. Thanks for the explanations on your choices. How would you best explain the preference for tight vents close to the body?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Před 6 měsíci +1

      The vents should be closer to the body and not hanging low. If they are low and wide that pigeon is usually useless. Fat pigeons will have the vents open up some and also may seem worse than they really are. Close to the body and not too open is best. I guess when you handle the bird you should try to not get to the end of the keep and then have the vents sticking out past the keel. I wish we could look at some pigeons together.

      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Me too, my friend. It'll happen some day. My grandmother's side of the family have deep roots in Mass. going back to the Salem witch trials and it has been on my bucket list to see the place, so it'll definitely happen. Once I get settled at the new place down south, my wife wants me to get a caretaker so we can travel a little. Needless to say, going back your way is on the list of destinations.

      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Thanks for the explanation on the vents. Do you think condition/age will influence the vent? Ie. Are they likely to become less close as they age?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Před 6 měsíci +1

      They may get a bit worse with old age but most changes happen when the bird is very fat.

    Frank what porcentage of protein do you recommend for breeding?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Před 5 měsíci

      My feed is about 15% protein and the chicken pellets are 16% protein. They do not eat many chicken pellets. If the pigeons get free choice all they can eat 14 to 16% protein is enough for breeding. All the minerals are more important than the feed.

    Hi Frank!
    Does the badge of courage have any affect on the flight quality of the bird or any other disadvantage?
    What happened exactly to the flight to cause it such harm?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Před 6 měsíci

      It does not effect the pigeons flight and I have had some win after the feather is deformed. Not sure why the stress causes this to happen in the flight.
