- Join professional marine biologist on a snorkeling trip to the most famous spot in the Hawaiian Islands: Molokini Crater!
Molokini Crater is a cinder cone, formed underwater at the base of the Haleakala Volcano to vent steam. Made of solidified ash, Molokini boasts over 100-150 feet of visibility underwater - great for seeing all kinds of marine life!
Come with Maui Snorkel Charters on this once-in-a-lifetime 'virtual' trip. Visit over 5 different sites: 3 at Molokini (including the famous "Back Wall" - listed on the Top Ten Dive Sites in the World) and 2 at "Turtle Town" on the south side of Maui. All while learning about the amazing animals of Maui with professional marine biologist, Jessica!
Mahalo nui loa to Maui Snorkel Charters for hosting me on this incredible journey and providing your guests with the the best experience! If you are interested in booking this wonderful trip, check them out at mauisnorkelcharters.com/ ... you won't be disappointed! - Zábava
We booked this excursion after seeing this video and it was an incredible experience! We went a week ago and were treated to seeing many whales breaching on our way to and from Molokini. If you go during whale season (November through April) you will see a lot of whales as well! Highly recommend doing this!
I have enjoyed Molokini and the Turtle Town trip years ago. Go to the Big Island and snorkel at the Captain Cook monument and Two Step Beach, these were the best snorkeling in Hawaii for me.
Beautiful, I was there this month (Oct22), snorkeled Ulua but not with a charter. Definitely will look at this charter when I return in 2024, beautiful footage and love that they teach you about the marine life 💙
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing! I went snorkeling at Molokini my last visit to Maui, incredible experience to be out there! This boat and charter looks wonderful! Thank you for sharing! Aloha! 🌺✨❤️🕊🙏🏻✌🏻❣️🌞🙂
Amazing and totally worth it!!!

@@robypaul202 trip was amazing, had to be at the harbor early but it was well worth it such an experience my wife and I enjoyed
Is there a link to reserve spots with Maui Snorkel Charters that you can provide or do you just call them to take those snorkel tours? Thank you for the adventure! You are making me more and more excited (and a bit less scared) to eventually get in the ocean in Hawaii!
Aloha Dayna! Great question, Maui Snorkel Charters does online bookings through their website at mauisnorkelcharters.com/
or you can call the number on their website :) Hopefully we will see you out here some day for a nice introductory snorkel in Hawaii!
When we went our tour guide didn't take us on the back side of the crater stating there were sharks over there! Lol
Maybe next time
🤣 Well of course there are sharks, it's the ocean! But that's half the fun of seeing the back wall. Hopefully you will get a chance to come back and see our fin-tastic creatures 🦈
Typically, how deep are the waters chosen to snorkel at?
Another great question! The depths shown in this snorkel trip (to Molokini Crater specifically) vary drastically depending on the site. The first and second stops were only a few feet deep at its shallower point, and then gradually dropped to about 30-40 ft. The famous "Back Wall" spot is very different and pretty atypical, because it's a vertical snorkel along a sea-cliff. So this depth is roughly 300ft deep. Most snorkel sites along the island shoreline are typically between 10-30 feet (similar to Turtle Town - spot 4 & 5 in the video).
The most important thing to remember is that on a snorkel charters like this one, you control your limits. If you only want to snorkel in the shallow sites, then you can! It's your trip after all :) But your captain and crew are there to support you if you choose to explore outside of your comfort zone.
It's also important to remember that even if the water is shallow enough to touch the bottom, it is EXTREMELY important that you never put your feet down on the reef because it is alive. In protected places like Molokini, it's even illegal :O If you think you'll be tempted to, make sure you grab a flotation device like a pool noodle or a flotation belt. :) This provides extra comfort and can make the whole experience better if you are nervous.
I hope this helps!
Can I snorkel here if I can’t swim ? I have done it in the past but it was close to shore
Because Molokini Crater is a marine reserve, you would not be permitted to put your feet down on the reef or rocks. That being said, most boat tours that go to this area can provide flotation devices (pool noodles, float belts, boogie boards, etc.) for you so you can enjoy the view from the surface.
I will be in Hawaii in 2 months and will be snorkeling! Im scared... Do you recommend any tips for a beginner?
Aloha Vannida Vlogs! That's awesome, I hope you are excited! Snorkeling is super fun and a great way to see our coral reefs. It can be intimidating at first, but it's super easy :)
Make sure that you ask a professional (boat crew or rental shop) to show you how to properly fit your mask and snorkel before you hop in the water. They will show you how to prevent leaks and clear your snorkel if you get any water inside. (Maui Snorkel Charters does a little Snorkel 101 class for folks who haven't snorkeled before). And with fins, make sure they fit snug but not pinching. And when kicking, keep your knees straight while you scissor kick for the best and easiest time :)
Lastly, if you are really nervous, I definitely recommend renting some snorkel gear ahead of time and practicing in shallow water just off the beach. In water where you can touch the bottom, just put the mask on and practicing breathing at the surface while looking through the water at your feet. When you feel comfortable, then lift your feet up and start to kick around :)
I hope this helps!
@@KaimanaConservation Thank you for the reply! I am really excited and nervous! I will keep in mind with all of your tips. Appreciate the feedback and keep up the good work (:
Pick a very calm beach to start with, then you'll be more confident from a boat :)
@@VannidaVlogs lol I'm going to hawaii soon too! Maybe we will learn together
So sad that Molokini has degraded so.
There used to be CHOKE uni, urchin, lace coral and fan coral :( :(
We'd take a loaf of bread into the water and you'd be surrounded by fish. Our guests loved it.
Yes definitely! The combined affects of climate change, overfishing, and large tourism operators has drastically changed the ecosystem at the crater.
Every summer the bleaching corals are enough to make you cry 😢
That being said, I think the area is still a fantastic place to experience Maui's incredible coral reefs. Especially if they haven't snorkeled on hawaii before (or ever been in the ocean before!).
And I love advocating for local, family-owned, and small sustainably-conscious tourism operators. Which is why I traveled Maui Snorkel Charters 😁
is the water still warm in the end of january?
The water temperature varies seasonally, but not so dramatically that most folks visiting from non-tropical areas can tell. Winter waters are mid-to-upper 70s, and summer ranges from high 70s to low 80s. :)
Can I ask what camera you are using?
Hi there! I use several different cameras, but most of my underwater footage is simply using a GoPro Hero 10 with a monopod extender for better angles & an underwater Sola flashlight for extra light & color :)
hello
This is the crew of the Korean variety show "Follow me now"
It's no different, but you want to make an introductory video to Hawaii using some of your CZcams videos.
Would you mind if I could use it?
Aloha, please connect with me directly via @kaimanaconservation (instagram or facebook) to discuss a usage agreement of KC footage for advertisement purposes. Mahalo!
Hi can you mention your underwater camera please? I am looking for one to use in Hawaii. Tia
Aloha Sonal! I like to keep it simple when I'm on excursions, so all footage on this video is filmed on a GoPro Hero 8. Enjoy your visit to Hawaii!
@@KaimanaConservation What were the settings on your GoPro and did you have a filter? Will be going to this same spot next month!
