The building above the Mall is not a hotel but some 370 apartments most of which have been sold. There is a controversial plan to build a new road to Smart City which if it goes ahead would make the area more accessible. There are also plans for the Institute of Tourism Studies to move to this location as well as the American University of Malta. I believe an 11 story hotel with some apartments included has been approved but has yet to be built. The Shoreline Mall and Residential Apartments are not fully complete so it is early days and I would suggest you make a return visit in a year or two. My feeling is that the location of Smart City in Kalkara will continue to develop and grow as it is within easy walking distance of Birgu and the ferry across to Valletta. The Mall is a great asset for people in the South who may otherwise have gone to Sliema. I think the Shoreline plans to have a Supermarket soon but not sure when that will open. Thanks for giving us a tour. Personally I think Shoreline Mall is an amazing place.

Thanks for your input, and I agree on some points, It all depends on if the investment is there and if the government can build the infrastructure and get past the massive Oppositions, I read they are aiming at high end apartments and hotels, there are so many, and so many planned all over Malta !! where are all the rich people coming from ?

@@EnglishmaninMalta. I agree that development at Smart City and generally all over Malta has attracted many naysayers, and for good reason. I notice on the Shoreline apartments website that they have 57 units for sale with 22 priced above one million euro and more. I'm not sure if the average local can afford these prices so who buys them is a good question.

Steve in the beginning l was agreeing with you about doubting if it was going to succeed but as there are going to be residential apartments on the future it will not be so isolated and from what I can see there where quite a few people in the shopping mall. For me it's a little far away because l at haz zebbug but still l hope that on the future l will visit the place because it is beautiful. l prefer to come in summer because the atmosphere around the shopping centre will be more welcoming than. Thank you once more for your beautiful video.l know it's a bit late but l would like to send my condolences for the loss of your brother in law. Bye Steve till next time.❤❤❤❤😊😊

I actually really like Smart City and visited twice during my 3 week stay in November. For the coastline and tranquility as normally very quiet around there. Looked then to have hardly advanced much from Nov 2022 so good to see it starting to be finished. A nice walk from there to Marsascala.along the coast albeit rather long. Yeah would be surprised that it's bigger than the The Point seeing it doesn't apear to have as many floors.nor have a very big footprint. More like on par with that new Mercury centre that opened just as arrived as was staying nearby at the Intercontinental. II hope it's a success, however unless it can attract more shoppers I can see it closed again in a couple of years. Hope not. Thankyou for for the tour Steve!

I like the area but not smart city, Which was a big white elephant many years ago, now they are taking advantage of the cheap land that was supposed to be for the tech companies and buils over priced appartment and retail and hotel outlets

Smart city mostly is busy during the peak of the summer. They even organize concerts there and special events such as when Malta won the presidential award. But during the winter it's more quiet and tranquil. The shopping center is not completely finished yet, so that is why it's not yet so busy but it will help the shoppers of the south. When it's finished I think it will be a different story. Apart from the hotel also being built one can also buy luxury apartments and they will be on the same level as portomaso. However it needs time to get filled up and popular as it is still getting slowly occupied. P.s. I don't think it's the largest mall but altogether the city itself is quite huge.

I been many times summer night or day until now there was not much there, and very quiet, its all up market retail and appartments and I guess also hotel, also new scandal regarding the goverment and owners and change of use, that land was not to be used for retail and residential development but for tech companies...we be interesting to see what happens

    "SHORELINE" SHOPPING COMPLEX - ADMIRABLE OPTIMISM? 🏢 🛒🛍️ 🤔
Beautiful world class shopping center in a beautiful "coastal position", but is it in a "good commercial position" 🐘?. Only time will tell and I sincerely hope that those retailers' optimism pays off 🎲🙏. Methinks, MOSTA would have been a good viable site for such project ✔️.

PHi Steve....about as lively and interesting as a visit to the local morgue....the shopping area is totally soulless, the exterior is rather better but clearly has suffered from stop\start without any finessing !! Not so much white elephant as elephant's graveyard..Still a good instructive video
