NOTES:
+ Rental Car Number 103
+ 2018 Nissan Sentra SV
+ Compact four door sedan
+ MSRP: Around $19,085
+ My kind of car. Small, practical, inexpensive and pretty fun to drive.
+ 1.8-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder engine
+ CVT (Continuously variable transmission).
+ Horsepower: 124 @ 6,000 rpm
+ MPG: 31 city, 39 highway
+ Fuel Tank: 13.2 gallons
+ Full tank price: $39.60 (gas is about $3/gallon by me right now)
+ Fuel cap location: passenger's side.
+ Decent acceleration (it's a 4 cylinder with 124 hp)
+ Great handling. Pretty fun to drive.
+ Outdated tech, but it works fine.
+ Good amount of storage space.
+ Also called the Pulsar, Teana, and the Sylphy.
+ 4 out of 5 stars. I'd buy this car, but I'd be disappointed with the center display. I'd like to see a updated touch screen at a larger size.

I actually posted this video 2 days ago, but I referred to the car as a "Versa" throughout the entire video. I'm not exactly sure what I was thinking... Anyway, thanks to the person who quickly pointed this out. I meant to reply to your comment and thank you, I couldn't do that once I pulled the video.
I just bought the 2019 Nissan Sentra SV. I went from a gas hog of a Pontiac to the Sentra and I am so happy. The car performs well, is practical and easy on the wallet at the pump.
Congratulations!
Any CVT problems now?
@@hannahsadler3421 none at all
@@duffman9908 No problems on it ?
How is it so far? How many miles?
With the information you provided in this review, my friend that needed a car bought one of these. Thanks for the review.
Awesome! Glad it helped.
Be aware of the risks on the transmissions. Known to go bad .
I'd rent one. I wouldn't buy it . Good review, thankyou .
Wow two USB Ports in the back seat. Impressive. Cars twice the price sometimes don’t have that feature
Agreed. Many cars, even ones 10 to 20k more don't have any USB ports in the back seat. Kudos to Nissan!
Thanks so much for this video. I am between this car and another and getting this detailed view without having to leave home in video form was just perfect in narrowing things down.
thanks for the review bro :) i enjoyed watching! Think this is the car im going to go with
I just got this car in white last month and I love it so far for me she goes fast and I’m not even doing petal to the metal on it and I look and I’ll be doing 60 and it says 40 or 45 it’s a good car so far and I live in NYC I went to pa this weekend and it handled really well on the road I love it so far nice video keep it up and be safe out there bro
THanks for this video. Very well done. I will be purchasing a 2017 NS in the summer.
Very good review. I just got me a Sentra 2018 and I LOVE IT. Great video. 10 out of 10
Thanks Dean. And congratulations!
Do the buttons on the steering wheel have lights
I purchased this exact car/color for my daughter. She loves it. Also I really like your voice, nice to hear a normal person and not one of this annoying fast-talking you tuber voice! Thanks!
Wow, you're a great mom. I bet your daughter LOVES her car. And thanks for the kind words about my reviews. I really appreciate it.
Great review! Subscribed.
Good, honest review👍
Good review & great Sentra.
4:09 That space is actually really good if you have music CDs. I believe it is meant to store them because they fit there just right. Or a phone, wallet, etc.
Just upgraded from a ‘01 gmc jimmy with horrible problems to a 2019 Sentra with 11,000 miles. So happy to have a new car. Great review! loving the Sentra
Is it reliable?
Great review as usual.👍
Thanks!✌️
Good review I think Nissan cars have come a long way from what they where years ago nice to see there are still making a car that is affordable and fuel efficient that’s what matters these days👍🏻😁
Agreed! And thanks!
It's actually the opposite. They used to be great Japanese cars, now (after they merged with Renault) the quality has gone down the toilet.
Do you know if Nissan addressed and fixed the issues they were having with some of the CVTs? Thanks
Good video & great Sentra.
I own a Sentra from the same year. Love the car!!!!!
i have a 2013 with 67000 miles and runs like new
Just rented one at a local Hertz. Seems like a decent little car for the 750 mile trip I have planned. Of course that will be 750 miles back home and that fuel economy looks nice for such a comfortable car.
I have a 2017 S that I have owned for 2 years. Awesome little car.
manual?
paid mine 12 000$ with only 4600 miles at a nissan retailer. love it my first car ever :3
I just bought this car on Saturday, despite not having the advanced features, i love it. Upgrading from a 2007 Kia Sportage.
Congratulations! I'd love to hear your thoughts on it after you drive it for a few months. I only get these cars for a few days, so I always like hearing from actual owners.
I have mine for 2 years with no issues.
I just bought one for my wife yesterday and of the 4 cars she chose this one. We love it for a small car its roomy it isn’t a weak 4cyl. So far it’s a great car for the price point.
Congratulations on the new car. I think she'll be happy with it.
You see these cars everywhere where I live, and I can see why. It's actually a nice little car. It's crazy how many features this car has that my 2015 Infiniti Q50 doesn't have.
Great Review!!!
Thanks Paul!
I love this Sentra is a pretty car for being subcompact in the family besides Versa sedan. People might talk bad about Nissans are unreliable think they are great cars and has nice exterior designs like top of the line vehicles.
I was in the market for a newer vehicle. I want to look at a 2017 Chevy Trax but when I got to the dealership the car was sold. The salesman had me take a 2018 Sentra SV for a test drive and I was hooked immediately. While it looks small on the outside, the inside is very roomy like you pointed out. I am so happy I was turned to this vehicle.
Both are mediocre cars (I own a 16 Sentra) but the Trax is significantly worse
Just traded in my 2007 SL with 128,000 miles on it for a used 2017 SV with 32,390 miles same color-super black, I live in Hampton Roads, Virginia, took a short road trip to New Kent, Virginia which is about 100 miles round trip, used the ECO and noticed it was sluggish when trying to merge on the interstate, didn't use ECO on the way back and it was better, to me it's just an SL only 10 years newer, like the bells and whistles that my SL didn't have especially the back up camera but no navigation system and lane assist but you get what you pay for, semi retired and working part time this will probably be the last car I purchase from a dealer and make payments on, read alot of negative reviews about the interior but I like mine and I think the car looks great, haven't driven it in SPORT yet but I'm sure I will, no real complaints yet but time will tell...
Hi great review and very enjoyable. Many reviewers say it has sluggish acceleration and passing power. How did you find merging and passing power on the highway in general? Did it seem like a chore like other reviewers claim? Thanks Dave
DYNAMITE review as always, friend. Question: Does the Sentra offer pedestrian detection in its autonomous braking system? I find the Sentra to be quite interesting, but many auto journalists find it a drag to drive and own, yet you look upon it in a totally different light, so to speak...as in a positive way. I dig your informative reviews and find them quite insightful. Keep it going, if you can. I hope so! Peace! ♐
Thank you! I've been getting a bunch of negative comments lately, so I REALLY appreciate your support. I can only take so much hate at once, you know? ✌️
@@100RentalCars Hate posts? Negative comments? Why? I don't get it. Your reviews are always top notch. Ignore them and continue as U do, friend. Haters are such a drag but brush it off...I heard this once: "You can't please everybody so you've got to please yourself"...that's a lyric from a long ago song, but it still strikes true. Peace, mate! The only way to fly!
Currently renting an '18 S in white while in TN. Even with 124hp she does get up and go adequate for my needs. Not to mention handles the curvy roads well through Smoky Mountain national park. I guess the CVT can make any car go regardless of hp. Too bad this CVT will crap out the next year lol.
I have one...great car...fuel economy...quality of materials and very confortable...excelent...
How do you like after 1 year? How does the CVT perform and is it reliable? Are you really kind in the high 30's on the Hwy? Thanks!
some ppl say these cars suck but it’s actually spacious in the back
Very informative video. Can you do the sentra sv 2019 version? Thanks,
Getting this car Friday I can’t wait too see 40 bucks to fill my tank 👍
Congratulations!!!
Great review
Thanks Ryan!
V.beautiful flog.Thanx for u.
Your really great at what you do , I’m trying to find a car and I’m definitely leaning towards a Nissan Versa cause whew I loveeee it n ima small person I want a small car but just right 😌... I wanted a Kia Soul but I heard it’s not a great car..
Hey! Mine is blue too!
I love in Brooklyn NY and I fill her up with 35 dollars but the synthetic oil it’s expensive to change
Does it have the feature if you are getting out of your lane, or too close to a car, it let's you know?
It’s the extract sane as the one in the vid
Looking forward to your evaluation of the Dodge Charger...👍
Good review. I doubt that you'll find the Nismo version as a rental but if you ever get one to review. You'll like the the Sentra even more 😁
You're right, it probably will never happen...but, I can dream right?!? Do drive a Nismo?
@@100RentalCars Yup I do!😀
Really? Damn I'm jealous. Wanna lend it to a random CZcams guy?
I live in Canada (QC). It might be tricky lol. Honestly, as a automotive CZcamsr, you could probably get one without much trouble from the dealership for review purposes. 😁
V.beautiful car.
Would u buy it over other brands out there to buy thanks
I wanna buy this car as second hand - I want to use it for highways running by 140 km , do you recommend ?
drove one recently and surprised how quiet the car is for its price/class. power is not good and unlike some underpowered cars that are actually fun to take to the limit, this wasn't falling into that category. still, might be a good choice for those who need shorter commutes.
I have a 2016 Sentra SV, hearing the engine over 4500rpms can sound so bad sometimes. But outside of highway merges it accelerates fine
These are great little cars. Do you think you could grab a 2019 Altima when you get a chance? They're all new this yeart and I'm itching to see what improvements they've made.
Do you know if Nissan addressed and fixed the issues they were having with some of the CVTs? Thanks
@@richardalan6219 As far as I know they're still problematic, but I've never personally driven any Nissan with a CVT.
@@jeepguy95 Thanks for your quick reply! I've read quite a few of the YT comments and there's a lot of debate and arguments back and forth regarding Nissan's CVTs, although more people say they're still unreliable, especially since they merged with Renault. the new 2020 Sentra is completely redesigned and looks pretty cool but I don't think it's available in a manual. They have some very good prices on 17 and 18 Nissan sentras right now at our local Enterprise lot, but I've decided I won't buy one without a stick and they're hard to find!
Is Sentra better than the Altima in your opinion
How were the sentra's seats compared to the altimas? I feel in love with the altima a while back mostly because of its seats but I also want a manual transmission
The seats seemed very similar to me, although the fabric on the Sentra looks cheaper. Although, it could be EXACTLY the same and I wouldn't be surprised. And I agree about the Altima, it's a great car. Especially for the price.
I know the Altima is so good but man Nissan needs to get their CVT reliability together.... everyone else has
U can get a used Nissan Altima se-r and that’s manual
@@hunterkyle2021 Totally agree. I rented an Altima a couple years back and the comfort blew me away. Way better than the Fusion I'd rented earlier. I also loved how it drove but I just can't get past the CVT reliability issue. Just too risky since I'm the type of person that keeps a car until the wheels fall off. I can't afford to have the trans fail at 80k.
Why should where the gas tank filler be, on the right or the left, be of much concern?
the car is kind of irritating because it’s a 2018 car and maxes it’s features as if it was 2012
Certain trim levels come with certain features like the SV and up come with Apple CarPlay push to start etc. newer features in newer cars but the S is regular base 2012 features
Does this ride a lot rougher then a Altima.
How are the rpms at 70 and over on the highway? I like a car that's not 3,000 rpms at 75mph 2 and half maybe would be ok but is this something you had any issues with?
In my car its about 1800.
My sv manual is surprisingly fast
Howdy again...Would/could you consider testing a 2019 Nissan Altima, the 4 cylinder AWD version? About the interior infotainment system: I believe Nissan improved it for 2019. Hopefully they did. Don't mean to bug you with my two comments here, but you're excellent in reviewing vehicles. My hat's off to you! LOL...aDios for now, friend. ♐
Thanks for the kind words. And, yes! I should have a 2019 Altima soon. I'm hoping sometime next month.
@100 Rental Cars Looking forward to that. Will it be the 4 cylinder AWD model? Hope so. No matter. I'll tune in to that! Peace...
I like your videos. I was surprised to hear that the girl filler on the passenger side threw you off. Most cars have a little arrow on the fuel gauge pointing to the side of the car with the filler neck. That's the only way i can tell when i rent cars 😉
I think I could have used better words for that. I do know about the little arrow, so it's not like I pulled into the has station wrong, it's just that 9 out of 10 cars I rent has the gas cap on the driver's side, and it feels off to me when it's on the passenger's side. Almost like some is playing a joke one. Although, someone in the comments pointed out to me that if the gas cap is on the passenger's side, that you don't have to worry about door clearance when you park. I had never really thought about that before. Anyway, thanks for the great comment. Cheers!
I have an intermediate rented on Friday--any bets on what it'll be?
Nissan Maxima!
Great review, almost bought one but heard negative reviews about the longevity of the CVT.
Thanks! Yes, I've heard the same thing about Nissans CVT. If it helps, I've never experienced any issues. Then again, all of the rentals I get are fairly new so... I'm not a great resource. Did you buy something else?
We bought a Mazda 3
My sister’s car - 13 Sentra S , 80k miles, cvt transmission jerking, clearly flawed design, Nissan is offering 50% of the costs to replace it
Aunt a car - 14 Sentra sv , 67k miles, transmission already replaced, luckily still under warranty
I still love my 2013 sentra, 60k miles and still runs like new!
Not if she has taken care of it.
My step dad has a 2013, and it has about 150,000, no transmission problems. He’s the original owner and it’s still going
My sister has the same exact car
The Sentra is a very good car! The design and driving characteristics are better than a Corolla to me. I dislike the CVT in most Nissan products though, Sentra included, feels like it likes to slip until 30MPH is achieved, and only then will it lock on to its ratios. Bad transmission programming IMO. The 6-speed Sentra SR Turbo version should be a blast to drive and fixes the CVT issue. It is worth noting that the Sentra is somewhat taller and narrower than compared to a Corolla and it is most apparent when looking at the trunk storage side by side. Taller items will fit in the Sentra better than the Corolla.
Hi, is manual gear (6speed)sentra is good? Cvt issue with automatic car only, right?
How’s the reliability compare to Corolla?
It’s unbelievable but I want to confirm that’s the exact same instrumental cluster screen from the Infiniti Q50 🧐😑
Really? Well they are the same company, so it's not too suprising. You'd think, however, that the Q50 would have better tech than the Sentra. I mean, you are paying WAY more for the Q50.
100 Rental Cars exactly 💸💸💸
There’s a backroad near me that I like taking Sentra on. It almost made my wife car sick. Better in sport mode.
Ha! Be nice to your wife James. 😉
I have the black 2017 SV and I found out I like to use the Sport mode for interstate driving..
I have access to a 2019 Sentra to use frequently if I want to. Coming from a civic hatch back with Honda’s turbo this car really seems to struggle to get up to speed to me.
I got a 17Sentra SR Turbo it’s pretty quick. 1.6T different motor than the standard Sentra. I raced a si civic we was dead even.
Hello sentra owners, anyone facing issue (gear slip) with CVT transmission gear? Mine is 2014 model
Is this car good for tall ppl over 6 feet
I test drove the Sentra SV and the 2019 Elantra back to back, and all the touchpoints and switches on the Sentra felt quite cheap and clunky. That, combined with the outdated infotainment, means to me that the only thing going for the Sentra is price (but not necessarily value).
I agree that the Elantra is much nicer. Were you test driving to buy? If so, I'm curious what you ended up with. The Elantra?
@@100RentalCars Will be buying soon, but definitely leaning toward the Elantra.
Does enterprise give you a discount for being a recurring customer? Do you get things like half off every 3rd rental? I imagine the person at the front desk probably knows you on a first name basis
No, I don't get a discount... unfortunately. I am, however, "platinum" in the Enterprise Plus program. I think I have close to 7,000 points. My goal is to exchange them for a Tesla or a Ferrari via Enterprise's exotics rental location in Chicago. But we'll see...they may not accept my points. And yes, everyone know me by my first name and I know all of them! It's one of the reasons this remains fun after 2+ years.
Wish it had blind spot warning
A few days ago I had a 2018 Ford Fusion SE hybrid from Avis and now while I am in Orlando I have a 2018 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD with Illinois plates from Alamo.
Disney Fan how many miles per gallon did you get in the fusion?
Nice! I haven't seen a Fusion Hybrid on the Enterprise lot by me for YEARS. It's been mostly Maximas, Sentras, and Grand Caravans. I do see a Mazda 5 ever few weeks, but they're super popular and I haven't been able to snag one yet. Anyway, when are you going to post your own review!?!?
chocolatewheelchair The previous renters averaged 43 MPG but I reset it and in the 15 hours I had it I averaged 33 Mpg.
What gas do you use for the sv
I use premium on mine
Bought a Nissan sentra 2018. After 66,000 miles the transmission broke not a good car
When will you start to get 2019 cars?
Probably in November. I usually start seeing them in mid-fall. Is there something you're hoping to see?
100 Rental Cars Dodge Charger 2019 😊
@@100RentalCars maybe the new subaru ascent
I can almost guarantee I'll get a 2019 Charger soon. There's usually a TON of them on Enterprise's lot. The Subaru...that might be tough. Enterprise doesn't have any Subarus...at least not by me. I am hoping to convince a dealer or two to lend me a few 2019s to review. No promises, but I'll do my best
I’m starting to see 2019 Kias in my office, but that’s about it. Looking forward to the redesigned Altima.
I looked at nissan sentra today i almost pulled the trigger on buying one...i have 15 days to make my decision 😳
Did ya get one? the base model with manual was intriguing to me.
My 2010 Volkswagen Passat has a touch screen but not the 2018 Sentra ???
Ha! Yep, crazy right?
"A steroige area" lol
It got android auto?
Yes
Wife has a 2007 Camry hybrid with lots of miles that got rear ended so I picked up the 2018 Nissan Sentra rental car and I really don't like it. Seats are small, I tried my best to be smooth with the pedal and it just revs and shifts like it's just too high strung and the rear view mirror at night I can only see white dots for cars its like I'm wearing super dark tinted sunglasses looking at a mirror, ride is rough also not a a car I would buy .
😕 he say its small? I had a jetta 2005 to this it big
Ha! Guess it all depends on what you compare it too. 😎
It's not versa.
Why do modern cars have like 30 square inches of just taillight lens with no purpose?
do not buy a sentra.
i had 2 and experienced transmission problems at 53k amd 57k respectively on both
Got to stick with stick shifts.
Nissan use to make good cars. The last 15 years the quality and reliability has fallen dramatically. Since merging with Renault. I’d be all for a 1996 Nissan Sentra, better yet a 90-94.. but later model cars are pure junk.
Totally agree I have a 2018 and it’s is trash. Waste of my money. I cannot wait to give it back
In the year 2018, 20K M.S.R.P does not get you much in a new car.
You really have to go up to 25K before you can get a vehicle that
you will want to keep for the long term.
If you actually had to keep this car long term, it would not take long
for your initial evaluation of "4 star" to reduce over time. You would
soon get tired of the under powered engine/transmission combination.
The auto industry intentionally limits features of vehicles in this
price range. They want to sell you a more expensive vehicle
that is more economically profitable for them - even if the
consumer buys a car with extra and unnecessary features.
MoonInPisces1962 its a sentra so many discounts. You could get the turbo model which is decently quick with the feautres you want for less than 25k.
MooninPisces1962: Pisces ascendant here, friend! I do agree with what you wrote in some ways. A pity, but that's the way the auto industry rolls now. It's unfortunate, but true! Peace!
I don’t feel quite that way. A lot of us (alright, maybe a niche) like less “stuff” on our car. A base Sentra has the essentials . Discounted end of year for 13 grand or less.
Trouble is Nissan no longer makes good cars really.
A Toyota iA is under 15k abs is a joy to Drive.
I completely agree with the idea of a car that has less "stuff".
However, the problem is that the auto manufacturers make less profit
on such cars. To increase their profit margin, they manufacturer
cars like Nissan's "Sentra", Toyota's "iA", and Mazda's "3" in Mexico.
Because, Mexico has much lower labor cost.
Where a car is built can give more insight into the future
reliability of the car than the "badge" the car wears.
Mexican plants produce cars of lower quality, regardless of who
"badges" the car.
The end result is that you get a simpler car, but it has lower quality.
Therefore, you get much less value for the dollar, not more !
Until very recently, the Toyota "iA" and the Mazda "3" were built in Japan,
and shipped to the United States. Now, these models are also being
built in Mexico !
It is very important to anyone purchasing a car to give careful
consideration to where the car was actually manufactured.
Otherwise, the extra long-term cost of maintaining a poorly built
car can easily exceed any initial cost savings at the time of purchase !
I do not think that location matters in terms of manufacturing. Often they follow the same stronger requirements of other locations. I have a 92 VW GTI made in Mexico, it has been solid the entire 193k miles. We had a German made 89 Jetta that was similar.
There was a time you could buy a quality Stripped version of a car., It is the main reason I avoid buying new over priced luxury econo cars. Dealing with a failed $200 electric window motor fix or sideview mirror, etc.. I just don't want it.
Give me a DX version Honda Fit for 13 grand without Frills.. I am all over it. Miss Hondas of the past.
2019 is wayyyyy better
I was thinking of buying a 2018. Can you explain the differences? I may want to reconsider.
jatco make the nissan garbage transmission
Not fun to drive by any means. It’s garbage
I like sentra also; however the 2019 facscia (not in this video), is about the ugliest car I have ever seen.
It's exactly the same as the 18
