Before the show he didn't even know he could do that gritty voice, because it's a "no go zone" for an opera singer. He did it just for Floor (it was her day on the couch, the other six singers sang for her that night)
Throughout the course of that season of Beste Zangers Henk was adamant that genre and labels in music don't matter, the emotion and connection to the song is key. "Good music is good music", he consciously pushed himself to try new sounds and styles and appeared to be very generous in sharing his knowledge with the others.
The house band (Marcel Fisser Band) was outstanding throughout, they displayed a wide range of styles and backed each performance beautifully. Both Henk and the MF band joined Floor for a short tour of the Netherlands following the success of the season.
Floor is a fan of Henk since chlidhood days which is not difficult to see :-)
Yes, Emma Heesters - Strong ;) This song was written by Floor years ago (in 2005-ish) for her mom, and she is very emotionally attached to this song. And Emma did a great job in delivering those emotions.
Floor was totally fangirling. So adorable. lol
Henk is one of Floor's childhood idols. This performance is special because it's the first time Henk ever did distortion in his singing. Opera tradition has it that distortion/rasp is not really singing. You watched it out of order. This was all on the road to the final performance of the season, which was Henk and Floor doing Phantom. You guys should dive into the performances in this show

Please don't overthink Henk's last name. Simply say 'Port', the double-o in Dutch doesn't change its sound (of silence, haha).
By the way, you can tell the technical quality of a singer by his/her body talk during a song. Henk's shoulders never flinched or moved while sitting down.

Henk did the distortion for Floor also because he was doing it by Disturbed. The is why isn't was done in Phantom. Henk nailed this song.
Floor has been a fan of Henk ever since she saw him playing The phantom in a theater when she was a child. She said that HE is the reason that she started to take singing lessons because she wanted to learn how to sing opera like Henk! And she was really nervous meeting him when this show was recorded. He truely is her idol. Henk was nothing but kind and sweet to her (and to all the others) taking her nerves away. And now they have become really good friends. Little young Floor had no idea what the future had in store for her..
This was from the most recent season of Beste Zangers. Each episode would focus on a different singer, and the others would sing to them. This episode was Floor's turn to be sung to. He had a pretty deep effect on some of them, watch him sing Noelia to Rolf, or sing Vivo Per Lei with Emma (from the finale, like Phantom) and his voice will destroy you. Noelia made me cry and I don't understand a word of it. Henk is a treasure and I am so glad I found him through this show. There were a ton of great singers this season and you'll notice Floor commenting on many of the Beste Zangers videos.

For a good list of Floor’s songs on Beste Zangers, type in “jenniezelf” in the CZcams search box. These come with a couple minutes of discussion between all the singers about what the song is about and who is being sung to. It helps to know why someone is crying while their song is being performed. Also, they play a few seconds of the original song so you can see the spin Floor puts on it to make it hers. I almost feel bad for the other singers because her version ends up being better than theirs. 😄

Hey guys, check this song out. The Scene met 'Iedereen Is Van De Wereld', live in Werchter in 1994. This song is everybody on this planet and check the bass player, cool and seductive. You will love it. Of course get some subtitles. Best Dutch song ever.

Great reaction to Henk! He is an amazing vocalist and the fact he learned how to put distortion on at his age is outstanding. Check out his version of ”Your Man" by Josh Turner from Beste Zangers if you want to hear him do a different genre. Oh, what Henk does in that part you mentioned is called vibrato, it's a change in pitch as a person sings and if you watch his face and neck it stays very neutral and relaxed, (there is more to it but this is the gist) that is a mark of a good singer.
As for Disturbed, I love David's voice and have been a fan since their first EP dropped in 99ish. If you want something that is Sound of Silence like check out their first ballad Darkness from their second album Believe. This song shows David's range as a singer😊

Wonderful reaction, this has become one of my favorite songs, it gives me even more chills then the Disturbed version. If you enjoy this show beste zangers, i'd like to see you do "dear Mr President" by Tim Akkerman, the same guy who did Nemo for Floor and Shallow with her in the duets. Very different style and i'm not sure you're into it, but i really love it and i love Tim's voice, just perfect for that song.
If you guys want to hear the best version of 'Lose Yourself' go look for Maria Fiselier. She was on the program 2 seasons ago, also an opera singer that just slays the song.
Another recommendation 'Henk Poort - Your Man'. There you can see Henk turn into Hank and the old dog shows he knows how to play the guitar and swoon the ladies.

There are keyboards now that show you the notes on the staff as you play. Mine was around 225$ ( not full size, but it's plenty big enough for jams ) You could probably learn that way :)
