Nice to see Percy figure it out after Hades revealed the truth about someone stealing hos helm of darkness to steal Zeus' master bolt. Hades wanting the master bolt is understandable considering the threat of Cronus, just as it is understandable for Percy to go for Hades' deal to trade the helm of darkness for Sally Jackson.

Yeah Hades had nothing to do with that. The Helm being used to steal the bolt is unique to this though: in the book they were simply both unguarded in the Throne Room during the Winter Solstice celebration, the one day of the year that poor Hades is allowed on Olympus and when Camp Half-Blood was there on a field trip. Zeus has got TERRIBLE security. No one knew about the Helm because Hades, who is a lot more bitter in the book, didn't think that anyone would care enough to offer him justice and it would make Hades too vulnerable to admit to the theft.

Two of Hades' chief epithets in Ancient Hellenic literature are the receiver of many _(polydegmon),_ host of many _(polyxenios)._
Referring to more than just his ultimately gathering all humanity into his treasury, Hades (that he rules as a king in his own right) is beholden to the practice of _xenia,_ the guest-host relationship in Ancient Hellenic society: that taking someone into your domain (your house, your _oikos),_ that they're to be a guest of yours, sees one be required to provide them necessary food & drink, to visit no harm upon their person, etc.

Finally Hades and finally being represented well!
Hades in Greek mythology is not a negative or demonic figure, the god of the underworld cannot be compared to Lucifer, because Hades is a God who governs the entire world of the dead, which includes heaven and hell for the ancient Greeks.
Hades does not hate his job and his kingdom, indeed when the universe was divided into three kingdoms between Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, the god was happy to govern the kingdom of the underworld!
So it is consistent that Hades in the series did not want to overthrow Zeus and did not want the thunderbolt.

Even though I do like the book Hades a lot more where even his mere presence was terrifying and how ruling the underworld seemed like something Hades dreaded, I can definitely appreciate what Jay Duplass was trying to do with Hades. I dunno if I’m reading into something that isn’t there, but it seemed like Jay’s Hades had this smug, pompous, arrogant tone that also made him three steps ahead in the situation where his like ‘oh you want your mother? Sure, but shes frozen in gold’, and even how he forcefully tells Percy to offer him sanctuary from Kronos, as though all of a sudden he is being benevolent. Again, I dunno if I’m reading into something that isn’t there or anything. It’s just what I see.
Also I know I’m probably the 15,386,375 person to say this, but I’m so glad that they didn’t make Hades into Satan and have him want Zeus and Poseidon to go to war.

    • @coltonwilliams4153
      @coltonwilliams4153 Před 6 měsíci +4

Before they figured out that Kronos was pulling the strings, Hades believed that Percy had stolen his helm just as much as Zeus believed that he had stolen the bolt. So it makes sense that Hades would be at least moderately hostile about the exchange and not let Sally be too comfortable while he was waiting for Percy to come get her. When Percy arrived, Hades thought that he was dealing with a desperate demigod thief that had finally figured out that he’d bitten off more than he could chew, so his tone of smug arrogance was perfect.
When they figured out that Percy and the bolt were just cogs in Kronos’ scheme, Hades immediately realized that he needed to keep Percy, the bolt, and Sally out of Kronos’ grasp by whatever means necessary. Hence the offer of sanctuary. I see that Hades believes in denying the enemy everything they want. It’s a respectable method for waging war.

That vacation part was a JOKE. NO ONE takes a vacation in Tartarus!!! Well except for maybe monsters. Percy and Annabeth fall in at the end of Book 7. Well, Annabeth is pulled in by Arachne, another woman who was cursed by Mommy Dearest for a supposed slight, and when Percy couldn't pull her back up, he decided to go down with her rather than let Annabeth go alone. Arachne attacks them again at the bottom, but Percy quickly kills her with Riptide. Book 8 chronicles their journey through Tartarus as they try to survive, escape, and close the portal that a legion of monsters is using as a fast escape method from Tartarus: as long as this particular portal is open, monsters keep resurrecting FAST whenever they're killed. It's also the only way out for them. With the help of the Titan Bob, whose memories Percy had wiped by throwing him into the Lethe during a fight with Thalia and Nico, the son of Hades, and the friendly Giant Damasen, Percy and Annabeth escaped and closed the portal while Bob and Damasen were apparently destroyed holding off the embodiment of Tartarus itself. In one of Rick Riordan's newest novels, The Sun and the Star, Nico and his boyfriend Will Solace, the son of Apollo, returned to Tartarus after realizing that Bob was still alive and rescued him. They snuck in using an ACTUAL secret entrance to the Underworld, but Nico later learned that Hades was actually the one who sent them on the quest, having prompted the Oracle to give the prophecy over a dozen times until Nico and Will actually went.

He threatened to kill Percy if he didn't return his helm, he speculated that Percy was trying to distract him with his theories about Kronos. It was clear that there was no way Percy could convince Hades so he decided to escape the underworld. It was only when the Furies saw Percy fight Ares that the truth was revealed.
It is true he does not want anything to do with his brothers but his bitterness forcing him to isolate himself is a major part of his characters. Making him into a chill uncle takes away from it.

okay that is just stupid and wrong but hey ill just take a simple crack at one thing that is honestly so wrong that its actually kinda funny so hades doesnt try and make a deal with percy at all he more or less intimidates the group and almost kills them but besides that those pearls are suppose to return to the sea thus went percy uses it he is supposed to float towards the ceiling not fall through the ground as for why thats funny its because percy literally just took a one way ticket straight to tartarus

finally realized that hades just wants to keep to himself
What's more, it's Zeus and the rest of Olympus who should be jealous, of course they rule everything under the heavens but in the end everyone dies, everything perishes and goes to the domain of Hades. At the end of it all he will have all creation under his command and Olympus will dominate fewer and fewer people until they decide to start everything over again
and more subjects will come to Hades over time, even in the new beginning

I don't know it doesn't sound like what Hades would do if he told Percy to give him the bolt and ask for Sanctuary he would give the sanctuary and then take the boat from him to give it back to Zeus because Zeus was the one who was strong enough to defeat Kronos and then give the lightning bolt back and tell him with everything that's going on it's true Zeus may not believe his brother but out of everyone Hades has the least ambition and Hades didn't try to overthrow Zeus at one point

This show is just as bad as the movies. It's more accurate but has way bigger changes while telling us it would be accurate.
