- Part of the National Railway Museum's Miniature and Model Railway Show's "Driver Experience" weekend, 18yr old Arnold took the controls of a two car diesel 'Red Hen' railcar set on the museum's 1km siding, and did so like a boss!

there's nothing to it but here in the uk they make it out to be a very complex and complicated job and that you need to have all these qualifications but to be honest its an absolute lottery win if you ever manage to secure a job as a train driver or saying that even get to interview stage.

One of my school friend drove his fathers truck when he was 13 when dad was not there.

Once I got to "drive by drive I'm mean drive a class 67 for like 3 minutes going 15 mph but I was really good at it and I'm only 13 it was awesome 👏 edit: I also got to drive a class 08 locomotive for only 10 mins and I was shunting it was the best thing ever and so was the 67
Red Hens are easy to drive with the self-lapping brake system. Now try with a diesel loco and a pass set up and down some hills using complete different brake system.
I remember well the old Red Hens running through Adelaide

Can somebody explain what the reason is for the squealing of train wheels on the tracks?
The wheels have things called flanges and they keep the train on the track around corners, points and other stuff and they squeal loads. Another reason could just be rusty track.

Do you know that in Russia, Ukraine and some other CIS states there are so-called "children railways" - 750-mm narrow-gauge lines where 11-15 y.o. kids study different railway professions, and at the age of 14 they can drive diesel loc, and at 15 - retro steam loc! You can see it on CZcams!

It's not that hard when being told what to do. I don't know why he drove it 'like a boss's because anyone could drive a train like this. What he really needs to try is a full 3-4 hour freight run remembering all speed limits, signals and braking points. Then he would be a boss.
