- The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, an intimate setting - just a different space.
Bob Boilen | July 20, 2021
There's a desk and a band playing songs filled with nature's imagery somewhere in the woods of Mulmur in Southern Ontario, Canada. It's the perfect setting for The Weather Station. Outdoor locations are familiar to anyone who's seen recent videos for "Robber," "Parking Lot," "Tried to Tell You" and "Atlantic," all songs from the band's fourth album, Ignorance, and all songs performed here for its Tiny Desk (home) concert. Songwriter and singer Tamara Lindeman told NPR Music's Marissa Lorusso of her deep feelings on the climate crisis: "I just basically fell down the rabbit hole that happens to you when you take in the full reality of what it means, and what two degrees [of warming] means and how far over the cliff we already are." And so the songs for this Tiny Desk (home) concert are filled with imagery of nature and our relationship with our planet.
With images of a blood-red sunset in the song "Atlantic" and the lines "Thinking I should get all this dying off of my mind / I should really know better than to read the headlines / Does it matter if I see it? / No, really, can I not just cover my eyes?," Tamara writes about her passion for the earth and its future, but the tunes are calming and thoughtful, not doctrines or lectures. This big band with two drummers, two guitars, keyboards and a sax seems at home in the great outdoors. I, however, look forward to seeing them in a club again when their tour begins in September.

One of the best feelings in the world: the first time you hear a band you did not know, that becomes an immediate favorite. Tears in my eyes.
That's great! Her album "Loyalty" was probably my favorite of 2015. Like other great artists, Tamara has developed with each album while being true to her voice. She's a lovely lyricist. I was excited when I saw this in my feed - the new album is one of my favorites of this years' - but still only got to watch it now. There are so much good music!
There are good reasons to cry!
Theyve been on here before, one of the best performances imo go check them out!
Here I am, once again, becoming obsessed with yet another artist because of the Tiny Desk concerts.
Sammmme the last few uploads have been 🔥🔥🔥🔥
i fully understand!! i become obsessed with the REAL personalities, like Ani Difranco & Michelle Shocked, when i get to hear them talk after their incredible musical performances!!
Wouldn’t this be considered seven artists? It’s a band
@@Ethyl.breaks the weather station is Tamara’s moniker. The musicians she plays with are playing for her.
@@Ethyl.breaks These are musicians who played on her fifth album (there were more on the recordings). I think couple of these played on her previous album and fewer than that on the album before that. Plenty of solo artists form band for different projects and tours (but there tend to be a core)
I cannot describe how well put-together they are as a band. Their performance sounds like it was recorded in a studio not in somewhere in the woods.
Tamara’s sensual breezy voice always gives me a good deal of chill and leaves me in awe.
I like the "It's 6AM, I'm half asleep, and I can't find my car keys to get to work" stage presence.
Also the light walking to not wake up people in the house
Me too, very real!!
Ignorance is one of the best albums of this year and this tiny desk is brilliant. Thanks much for the beautiful performance!
The piano guy is feeling the vibe on a whole new level.
he's actually feeling it on a slant
He's feeling the poison ivy.
@@chancemiller9340 He was smokin' it
@@stellabella3490- Smokin' the poison ivy may be hazardous to your health.
At least COVID has given us these wicked NPR settings away from the book shelves at the office 👌
Tamara/The Weather Station are straight up amazing.
This is like a warm bath stepping back in.
I knew them from a KEXP-session.
Those first 2 songs always remind me of Fleetwood Mac.
Atlantic is my song of the year by far
God even two years later I Tried To Tell You hits exactly the same.
Who gives magic like this a 'thumbs down'? Beautiful words, music, visual setting....love it
Just got home from driving in the rain, which got heavier when I lay my back on the bed. Open YT up to see a new TDC video of an artist I didnt know, whose music somehow fit the current weather perfectly. This feels better than winning the lottery.
I just got back from running in the rain here in Manila and stumbled upon this video too. How fitting!
@@narcissticgoddess coincidentally, because of this video I jumped on Spotify to download all their songs so I listen to them while I run tomorrow morning. Definitely rainy season vibes with this group
I guess I'll just keep my lottery winnings to myself in that case
@@litcostello1223 would you if I hadnt mentioned it? What are you some kind of Nigerian Prince or something?
@@charlesc2095 I mean you said it was better than winning the lottery so you won't be to dissatisfied if you dont get a cut
Ignorance is bliss. Thats why i got it.
i LOVE that there's a female sax player!! As a former sax player, it's so exciting to see people who carried it on!
Look up Mellisa Aldana, Tia Fuller, and Grace Kelly. I think you will be pleased.
If you want more Karen Ng, she also plays on Lido Pimienta's Tiny Desk Concert.
Marvellous
someone please shed some light on these DRUMS and CYMBALS! sounds so so good. any deep-diving weather station fans out there??
I’ve loved her for years and am so very happy to see her and the band finally getting the recognition they deserve!!!
Tamara's voice is simply magical!
3:45 The enchanting moment of 'Parking Lot'! I just love the vibes of the band and her music world.
Thank you so much for this beautiful performance!
Ignorance is undoubtedly the AOTY!
Such a perfectly balanced record.
This is great music !
My foot is taping
Her voice tells a story like some wise
Wonderfull beautiful woman
And the music just pushes it along
Perfectly.
Best musical surprise since "angel in the house" by The Story
That build up from 6:52 onward is just insane
This music makes me feel always in a Saturday morning. Superbly.
It is almost unbelievable that they can make this recording in Gods free nature with this super sound quality. "In the woods today". But yes, this is a suitable environment concerning the message in Tamara Lindemans songs. I just love this music.
Hey Staffan. I recorded this performance. Thanks for the compliment on the recording. Means a lot!
@@dunscap Thank you Patric, you did a great job, unbelieveble good sound in this outdoor recording!
Amazed with the lean on the keyboard player and owning it
0:00 Tried to Tell You
3:45 Parking Lot
8:12 Atlantic
12:22 Robber
I love how every time the camera pans right that girl has a different instrument XD
Parking Lot hits different. My favorite song from the album
I already knew The Weather Station and love them but ANY band that plays from the woods is my kind of band. I can't think of a better setting for beautiful music than the beauty of the natural world! Unrelated, but hoping to see Loma on Tiny Desk one day (pretty please... no idea how to request).
Please we need 1 more session with - Loss, Separated, Heart & Subdivisions 💕
Espectacular. Muy genia la piba. La banda la gasta toda. Entendieron todo.
Best album of the year. Amazing talent. This is wonderful ❤
So much Talk Talk inspired goodness.
the band is super groovy !!! dope and on point Grüße aus Heidelberg
Wow very viby and lovely modern but soulful sound - again big thanks for tiny desk bringing up always the best what the music world has to offer 💐 🌷 🌹
The ending to Parking Lot is pretty great :)
The xtra drummer must be the best friend that can't REALLY play any instruments but he's just so great to be around 😆
In the future I hope this will be a legendary recording, when we all can say: "Yes, I was there, at least I saw it on CZcams."
I think its better then jimmy in woodstock
I love this band so much.
Thank you npr, for showcasing this delightful band!💖👍
Love this band:))
Smooth beautiful voice and great music , 😘💓🙏
this is pure art
Sempre me espanto com a qualidade sonora que vejo por aqui!!! sem falar dos artistas
Amazing
Que buen espacio para disfrutarlos!
LOVE IT
Love the imagery
Best music ever
OMG! This is so awesome!!
So good!
This is such a vibe
Thanks!
i just recently heard that their ignorance album is up for the polaris this year ~ absolutely yes ! i have listened to this album all day & it just gets better by the hours
Ugh so good!

HEAVY PERFORMANCE RIGHT THERE
This made my day! Ignorance is bliss!
Love it❤️
Another treasure on this channel!
unreal, next level band
Sophisticated music
Painfully good!
wow!
this band!!!!!!!!!!!!
This band is actually INSANE WOWOWOWOWOW
That was pretty amazing!
Masterclass
Noticing the damp or moisture rich environment, make sure all electrical gear is properly grounded. Safety first. Me and the cat found you all most entertaining thanx.
Thank you, shared.
I like it!
I really enjoyed the livestream concert a few months ago, but it had very different camerawork (darker framing, more intimate close-ups). This is an excellent counterpoint. Really enjoyed the side-scrolling tableau. Come back to Louisville!
I desperately want to run into the woods with arms wide and join them
It's the setting for me
Her voice reminds me of Chrissie Hynde ♥️
Was literally just about to type this!
And a third vote. However she could have been a little more edgy. There’s some potential there.
If Chrissie had been inspired by the "500 Days of Summer" soundtrack.
But yes, I hear it as well.
Parking lot is THAT SONG ! SOTY !
Fight me .
FINALLY
HAPPY FOR THIS! MORE PEOPLE NEED TO LISTEN TO TWS and IGNORANCE
Genial
❤️
This is so fucken sweet, I love this
This Forrest sounds like Congress room:) greetings to audio engineer 🙋🏻♂️
wwowww !!!
Quite enjoyable. Fleetwood Mac comes to mind but their songs are strong enough to not sound repetitive. Hope nobody came down with poison ivy.
Was thinking the same. There's definitely some Sara in the second song performed here.
@@boothe which sara ?
@@colecolettecole from the 1979 album Tusk.
Her tone of voice is somewhere between Christine McVie, Alison Moyet, and Tracey Thorn..
Simply lovely.
The setting is wonderful.
Superb sound recording…how did they achieve that in the middle of a wood? 🤣
Looking forward to seeing them live in Brighton tonight! 🌲🎤🍁🎹🌲🥁🌲🍂🌲🎷🌲🎸🌲
🌳🌳🌳
Nice
Amazing scenery. Curious though how they did with the recording being so perfect since it was outdoors in the Woods.
Great engineering and strategy with microphones. The work is so perfect that it sounds like it's been recorded in studio, doesn't it?
I’ve seen them live and they sound this good so I don’t doubt this is a real live recording just with exceptional sound engineering
The only band ✨
Great performance, great location, great film production! Really enjoyed this. Is it disco? Is it prog. rock? Is it jazz.....?
Hey from Spain, ,,,,nice to hear ,,,,,,🐈⬛⚖💮🧭📜〽️🐳
They should get Tems to come to the Tiny Desk! She’ll be dope‼️
I tried to tell you
Where is vulfpeck?
There's no other than Tamara to deliver disturbing lyrics so distinctive that it's both disturbing and extremely reassuring. It's almost addictive...
Phil for Prez
This band feels like a brisk bottle of Clearly Canadian.
where’s the desk?
Love this and the scenery! Bit too close to the album sound though.
