1999 Washington Redskins On The Brink VHS

  • It is wild to read this summary on the back of the VHS in 2023. Snyder's first season his team was considered to be on the brink of a Super Bowl berth. In the 22 years since, the Skins/WFT/Commanders have only won 1 playoff game. A fun watch for any member of #HTTC nation who I know remember this fan favorite team.
"In Norv Turner's sixth season as Washington's head coach, the pieces in the Redskins' puzzle finally came together. New owner Daniel Snyder's commitment to success infused the team with excitement as a winning attitude that spilled onto the field. The proof was in their performance as the Redskins won 10 regular-season games and a playoff game against Detroit. In the process, the team won its first division title since 1991.
Despite an array of budding stars, the Redskins are not satisfied and aggressively filled their few remaining holes with some promising free agents and an impressive draft class in 2000 that includes linebacker LaVar Arrington and tackle Chris Samuels. The new acquisitions join a balanced mix of skilled youngsters and savvy veterans who have carried this proud franchise back into the upper echelon of the NFL. The Redskins appear to be On the Brink of returning the championship to Washington."

I was on the Redskins staff in 1999, and the loss at tampa in the playoffs was devastating!! We should have won the game.

I was thrilled to see this. I am hoping that someone will post the 1997, 1998, and 2000 Redskins Yearbooks on CZcams.

Brian Mitchell said, I got this.. I wish we would have won this one. If we got by the Bucs it was in the bag!!!

I'm sorry but that's pretty damn arrogant to just automatically think that if the Redskins had beaten the Bucs that they'd walk into St. Louis and beat The Greatest Show on Turf when they were arguabally at their peak. Could it have happened? Yes. But to say it was "in the bag" to beat one of the greatest offenses in NFL history in the NFC championship game, especially in St. Louis in a dome where the Rams won every game by a margin of 17 points or more is unrealistic.

@@DinnersOnSaturday 2 HOF CB's would have helped... Champ Bailey, Darrell Green... and then Deion the next year.

@@DinnersOnSaturday @httrtaylor21 I respect his take, I apologize if I came off arrogant. I just thought if there were some defenses that year that could contend, it would have been Washington due to the talented secondary. We had a safety who was vastly underrated, and a pair of HOF corners. It would have been a great game.

@@thedcwolfpack No worries. You're very respectful of other people's opinions which is sadly far different from most people who post comments these days. Like I said, the Redskins could have beaten the Rams. But then again the Rams could have also beaten the Redskins. Either way we'll never know. Sorry if I got a little defensive. It just always rubs me the wrong way when someone just automatically assumes if one team had won a playoff game here they would have gone on to win the Super Bowl because that's just making a whole lot of assumptions and I never liked it because to me it shows disrespect to the team that did win it. For instance, I know more than a few Cowboys fans who to this day say that if the Cowboys had gotten to the NFC Championship game against the Redskins in 91 that they would have beaten them again and gone on to the Super Bowl. Which I'll tell them the same thing. Could it have happened? Yes. But just to automatically assume that it would happen is just not accurate.

Redskins' biggest mistake in 2000 Free agency period was to collect 1990s all madden's team. Bruce Smith, Mark Carrier, Andre Reed and Deion Sanders may have been good for the 90s but not 2000s. They should have learned from the Eagles FA signings like Brian Mitchell. #sorrycommandersfans

@@teddyjun1 . I keep telling folks this. We lost 3-4 games because of special teams kicking blunders. Those 4 games would've put as at 12-4 despite all the injuries and turmoil.

It should be noted that the signings did improve the defense quite a bit. The biggest problem was the offense fell off from the previous year.
