I am a new owner and I used to think it was so cute that he would crowd me and not lunge but spin around me. Ahhh, he loves me. No, he's being a turd. We still struggle sometimes but it is getting better. I feel like I have two left hands dealing with a rope and whip. This was clear instructions- thank you!

Really love your techniques and how you use body language (a horse’s main language) to communicate instead of making big motions and/or hitting your horse. Thank you for posting this!

He's a super smart, calm boy and responding really well so far, but I've been looking for videos to really break down lunging without a round pen since we don't have one yet, and this is perfect! He's the first horse I've ever had. I'm not quite sure why I ended up with such a difficult horse as my first when I probably should have gotten one that has been worked with and isn't stubborn. Hopefully with consistency I can get him to respect me and eventually be rideable. 🙏. This may be a very rewarding relationship for both of us (with a lot of work) or I may be in way over my head. You have taught me a lot though so I think this will be good. 😅

Hi there. I find your videos really helpful for my level. I have a question about lunging though. I live on a horse farm and I am the only one here who comes from a natural horsemanship background, but I am very green. I see people chasing their horses around in circles for long periods and I can’t necessarily tell what they are trying to achieve. Especially since some trainers that I admire (i.e. Alexander Nevsorov) are completely against the principle of lunging. What is the purpose and what exercises are there that are constructive to the horse and not only chasing a horse into submission? Maybe you could make a video about it 😉

My mare never wants to go more than a few steps. And trot? She will buck a little n throw a fit. She's older. 23. And she has been thoroughly vet checked. She was a rescue and for the first month or so, she was a wild, kicking, biting, butthead. But she's pretty gentle now. And she loves my little grandson. If my grandson would ever stop being scared of the horses (he's 5, and a bit timid in general), she would probably be a great match for him. She adores kids and is always gentle around them.

Can you teach me - the new horse owner - how to lunge the horse. I can't teach the horse how to lunge until I understand how to hold the lunge line & lunge whip - which hands they belong in when I want the horse to go left or right, my foot work so I don't get dizzy, how not to get twisted up in the lunge line (no joke), how to stop my horse from always turning toward me and from stopping & turning toward me when I try to change direction. The horse is my girlfriends horse. He's very sweet but, this is my 1st 6 months around horses. I love it. I just don't know where to stand, how to hold the lunge line or keep him moving. I think I confuse the horse so he doesn't know what I want & stops. I really love the horses & want to figure this simple training routine - lunging - as a foundation for working with her horse. So, I guess I am asking for a lesson for new owners not new horses on lunging & ground work. The videos I have watched so far are great but focus on training the horse. I need some training & tips so I can lunge our boy. Thanks!

Hello! I have been watching your videos for a while and have starting taking one of your online classes. I was wondering if I could request a video on an issue? I did riding lessons for years as a kid and now I officially have my own horse. She is about 15 years old and sweet but also a little stubborn. One issue with her is that she is completely un-phased by my techniques. Trying to lunge her she is unbothered by my swinging the rope near her bum or taping the ground or her bum with the lunge whip. She just is totally cool and doesn’t care. She is the opposite of a spokey horse. She is rock solid! I have been doing the respect class techniques and the backing up with body language is a no go. I’m doing a dancing jump around that would make you proud and she is unphased. Any suggestions?

Some good tips. My horse leads but just stands there and keeps disengaging his hind end when it comes to lunging

Do you have a video on how to transition from round pen lunging to lead lunging?? I recently got a horse that was round pen trained but I don't have a round pen and he refuses to lunge on a line.

The first time I tried this it worked great. My horse immediately started lunging. A few days later I tried it again and he would not do it and I haven’t been able to do it since. He just looks at me. Any thoughts?

8 months is still pretty young, even for lunging in my opinion, but this video is a really good place to start and getting her out in the circle might take a lot of patience but its a good excercise to teach personal space (especially bc a lot of youngsters have issues with that hahaha). I'd recommend small sessions, maybe 10 minutes each side and always end on a good note :)

That’s quite a bit too young to be lunging. I’d work more on groundwork such as leading perfectly, yielding to pressure, turns on the forehand and haunches, etc :)

My horse is a little lazy
She knows her ground work but I didn’t originally teach her the ground work. I’m not new to horses but I’m new to doing ground work. My horse doesn’t want to move her shoulders and go out away from me. Any suggestions for help?
