I use the Wyndham Business card for gas and utilities. 8x on gas, 5x on phone bills + free cell phone insurance.
Complete Team Cash Back - Using the Chase Freedom Unlimited while I am still under the 5% Gas & Groceries thru October...
all hail team cash back!!
Thanks Luke, great gems were given here
Thanks for watching, sir!!
Nice setup! Thanks for the info + video! Happy New Year 🎉🎊🍾🥂!!!
Happy New York to you and yours, Jimmy!!
I like the setup!!! I am thinking about the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve card and it’s mobile wallet feature to simplify my set up but who knows what 2024 will bring. Great content as always and Happy New Year’s to you and your family.
Thanks for watching!! The AR card is definitely is hitter!!
Very intrigued with the A+B team setup here Luke. Keeps things interesting and I think the return a creator at your caliber can get from referrals is enough to keep certain cards in the stable, or at least active. Either way, this is hands down one of the best low cost, high earning setups I've seen and I'll be interested to see how you use your Cap1 points. Happy New Year !
Thank you - there are two bigger redemptions I want with my capital one miles. One is biz class on Turkish airlines to Istanbul. Pretty nice redemption.
Great job on CZcams ❤
Thanks Vickie!!
Using the Citi Custom Cash for Gas in Q1, but putting a lot of spend on my CIU to hit the bonus, so may use that for Gas as well in Q1. Will be really interesting to see what you do with the Amex Gold next year, the credits are definitely annoying! Agreed with you on the value of Citi Thank You Points when you consider partners like Turkish & Avianca as well. Great video as always Luke!
Thanks Matt!! Have fun in South America soon!!!
Appreciate you too
Thanks!!!☺️
I currently don’t have a true gas card, so it’s either the CFU or VX for me. Though gas isn’t a huge category for me either, as I work right down the street.
Nice! I have a company car so that cuts way down on my gas spending
I decided that I'm going to cancel my Amex Gold next month after all. To start the year my main two cards will be the Citi Premier and the M1 Owner's Card, with Discover coming in off the bench every so often to hit those quarterly rotators.
I like that set up!
I don’t drive living in NYC but I’ll tell you my subway card is Amex BCP. I love these set up videos too!
BCP is such a good looking card!!
Oh yeah dig it
Thank yoU!!
Little update with my Delta Stays credit, I was denied after 8 weeks of waiting, and a 2 week investigation. Amex said that since the Drury isn't available on Delta Stays, I couldn't have booked it there. It has indeed been dropped, so I'm going to need to be a little more clairvoyant next time knowing what will stick around for a couple months. Delta is claiming that I may not have activated their cookies, but asked me to file a mileage credit with the reservation # and screenshots. Absolute madness dealing with some of these new credits.
There’s the rub. How much time do you want to put in for these “benefits”.
@@LukesPointsandMiles I'm already exiting the charge cards to make things more simple, and I certainly have no time for this. I prefer the Alaska card, where I am getting value earning even if I never use the companion pass once, and it certainly doesn't try to control where I eat, drive, or stay. Hilton coupons are all I want to mess with, where it is ok if you only get half. Venture X is so easy, redeemed right there at checkout...
i spend about $100 a month on gas. i usually use my Sam's club card to get 5% cash back. we shop there enough to justify using the card.
Very cool!
Great video Luke. I understand the feeling behind Amex cards, and I"m the same way with regards to gas. I'm under $200 a month for gas, so getting that citi card wouldn't make or break or me, so I don't want to go through the hassle of adding another credit card to the mix. Two set ups is interesting, probably too much for me, but you seem to have a solid plan.
I'm one of those weirdos that loves the hobby so as much as I search for simplicity, i will never find it
Using the Citi Custom Cash for gas.
Same!
glad you took my tip on the cathay side. i did see some signs british may be scaling back the number of award seats they give out to partners like cathay pacific. something to watch
That’s interesting. Yeah I’m seeing Cathy as a great way to fly BA
Great setups Uncle Luke! But if you have an A team and a B team.. don’t you have a hybrid setup? It’s just a setup with a lot more cards! Also USBAR is the closest any single card to get to 5X on everything. It’s 4.5X as long as you only use mobile wallets and redeem the points for travel, either on the portal or real-time rewards!
I see a lot of folks have brought up the AR but I really can’t remember the last time I used mobile wallet. For me, maybe it’s at gas stations? I just don’t really physically spend my own money. Haha
currently using the ink cash for 2% on gas. im all in on chase at the moment!
I’m at zero UR points! I need to start building
Mixed feelings about the gold card as well. But cash back just doesn’t excite me 😂
Cash back can be used to book flights better than a lot of points set ups.
Would love to see a video of what 3 cards you would hold and why if you could only have 3. Just an idea. Thanks for the content! 🎉
Thanks for the idea. That could make a great video and I think i already have my 3 in my head
900k in Chase points utilized this year...thanks for raising the dream/goal bar! DANG!
Yeah we earned a lot but we spent a lot.
2024 Gas + Utilities: Business Wyndham
Restaurants: Hilton Aspire (pushing to $30K)
General: Hilton Aspire + Venture X + Capital One Spark
Travel: IHG + Schwab Platinum
Shipping: Alaska Business + Hilton Business
That’s a unique set up and I like it!!
@@LukesPointsandMiles + 2 BBP Cards. The only category I'm short on is grocery, but we buy half of ours from Walmart and Costco. We would lose more by downgrading the Aspire to the Surpass. Done with both Gold cards, Platinum + BBP + BBP is enough MR for me.
Currently using the Chase Sapphire Reserve for gas and using the PYB feature to slowly drawdown my stash of UR points.
Ok, I’m surprised PYB is still around!!
Would be interesting to see spend and earnings for the quarter based on your strategy.
I don’t think it’s likely I will ever do a detailed video like that. Maybe one day I will have that kind of time. I can’t imagine logging the spend on that many cards. Haha
solid setup. as soon as i finish the spend for a sub on the marriott business and amex BCP, this will be my set-up for Q1:
American Express BCP - 6% streaming
Chase Freedom Flex - 5x groceries, 3x drugs
American Express Gold - 4x dining
Marriott Bonvoy Business - 4x gas
American Express Green - 3x travel
Chase IU (1.5x) - 1.5x utilities
Looks like a great set up
It’s not too many cards at all. Each one has a purpose. I love the cash plus for utilities. Also the chase ink preferred has cell phone insurance but you give up about 2%.
Yeah I’ve used the preferred in the past but for this quarter I really want to earn
Hilton Business for gas currently. At some point in Q1 it may switch to the CFF for 5x UR and then may possibly get thrown at an Ink SUB.
Nice options
Gas for my family is currently the US Bank business altitude connect card with four times the points back for gas up to 150,000 per year. However going to also be adding the Chase freedom Flex for Gas for 2024 because I was able to take advantage of the current freedom flex offer of five times back off of gas and groceries for 12 months or $12,000.
The chase offer is pretty wild.
1st Quarter of 2024:
Groceries - Chase Freedom Flex (5X)
Restaurants - Amex Gold (4X)
Auto Insurance Bill - Amex Marriott Brilliant (2nd FNC for $4k spend offer)
Gas Station- Chase Marriott Boundless (3X)
Catch-up All - Amex Marriott Brilliant (2nd FNC for $4k spend offer)
Those are some sweet Marriott offers you're getting!!
I love Marriott ,.. yes, this new offer of $4k spent in 3 months is a walk in the park to get my 2nd Free Night Certificate (up to 85k points)! I actually got a 7X on GAS with the Amex Marriott Brilliant during last quarter of 2023.
@@Leoprieto74 I’ve thought about pivoting towards Marriott in 2025. We shall see
@@LukesPointsandMiles I am definitely in Marriott team! But, FYI, I only book their Premium and their Luxury brands hotels. It will cost more but way better experience. Hilton is in 2nd place (you know I also have the Hilton Aspire Card).
I use the USAA AMEX Cash Back Rewards for 5% on gas. If I happen to be on base, I use the Military Star card for 10 cents off per gallon.
I’ve always thought about getting that card. It’s rarely talked about.
I drive a Tesla so use my Citi Custom cash for 5X back for Dining. P2 uses Citi Premier for gas and groceries and after only 6 months of having that card was able to get a retention offer of 50k thank you points cutting the $95 in half. I plan to call again after my AF actually hits. Been happy with this setup. As for Hilton, added a Surpass to my Aspire lineup mainly for the 170k points NLL SUB (ie. I've had the Surpass before) and 2nd FNC with the 15k spend. I stay at Hilton at least once a quarter so that new $50/quarter Hilton credit means they are actually paying me $50/year to keep the Surpass.
Sounds like you're killing the game!
That’s good to hear. I didn’t even know that Citi gave out retention offers.
@@boondoggle4820 if you call them they sometimes give you one. It’s usually best to wait until til after you’ve had the card a year though.
Right now gas is AMEX business gold. Working on the sign up right now, so it’ll last me for at least the first year.🎉
The “one and done” Amex Biz Gold!!
1st quarter for me for grocery will be Chase Flex at 5x.stacked up a good number of grocery gift cards too at end of this year on existing 1st year 5x on flex too to use after the first quarter for a couple of months. kind of delays my needing to find a good future card for that category
Nice work!!
Hey Luke! I agree I'm also thinking about canceling my Amex Gold card especially if the AF increases to $350 as rumored. My A team cards Q1: CSP, CFF, WOH and Venture X, Team B: Discover IT, Citi CC, Citi DC and almost forgot Bilt MC(5 transactions).
That set up seems very effective!!
I'm kinda in the same boat. I'm phasing out Amex but not completely. I am getting rid of my platinum (January) and gold (February) but keeping my two Hilton aspire cards and my Dleta gold card. I am going to maximize the Hyatt spend to get that extra free night certificate but will also mostly be using my Chase cards to build up UR points this year. I have two trips for this year paid for already with a third trip to New York already planned and the points set aside for the hotel stay. We'll see if any tempting offers pop out this year but looking to not really apply for any new cards this year.
Very similar!!
CFU is my Gas card for the next ten months with its 5x back on Gas and Groceries. By far the best value earning UR points so easily with two huge categories. Great video as usual Luke!
I am waiting for my CIC to come in the mail and that is a great tip for earning 5x back at Office Supply stores with gift cards!
Is there a cap on that??
Isn't it 5% cash back? How are you earning UR points?
@@LukesPointsandMiles12K
@@TheWildsissythey are distributed as UR points. I have a Chase Ink Preferred to transfer them too.
@@MattMcGrathOfficial ah that’s not bad. I spend more than that on groceries but that a good cap.
The CFF/CFU, my P2 got both this year and both give 5% back at gas stations. I’m pretty excited to see how many points I can earn this year since it’s my first year on team travel with the CSR. This quarter we should max out a few CFF/OG Freedoms with groceries at Aldi. Also got a Disney trip next week so I planned on buying some Disney gift cards at Aldi to use there for food/souvenirs so that’ll be nice to get some 5X Disney bucks 😂
Great strategy. The gift card purchases can feel like work sometimes but they definitely earn.
Your Aldi sells gift cards??? 😮
@@DugrozReports sure does! Haven’t look too hard but I’ve for sure also seen Amazon so that’ll come in handy. I also learned this towards the end of Q4 but CVS accepts PayPal as an option in store so I could’ve got 7x back on all my gift cards for Q4 😭. Should’ve realized this cause as a family with young kids McDonald’s is our 2nd home and we used their app and got 7x back at McDonalds all Q4 with our CFF/OG Freedoms
Luke, I asked you on a live on what to do at 4/24, and made the decision to get the Chase Ink Cash, vs. waiting on the CSP. Currently using the AAA Travel Advantage Visa for 5% on Gas., for the first quarter will be working on MSR on the Chase Ink Cash though, might buy Gift Cards for the 5% on Gas, vs the 2% on the CIC for Gas. I would love a video about what to look out for in using Gift Cards for spend.
Well he answer?
I’ve purchased gift cards at staples when they have fee free visa and Mastercards and I those you can spend anywhere. I’ve also purchased gas station cards and Microsoft (for the boys x box). I don’t ever mind having a thousand dollars in Mastercard debit cards lying around because they’re easy to spend
I answer almost every comment. Sometimes they slip through or it’s a comment on an old video.
Hey Luke. Heard you will be going to Hong Kong later. I'm a frequent traveller to there. Let me know if you need any hotel recommendations. Offhand, I do recommend the newly reopened IHG Regent hotel there. I will do some Hong Kong videos on my channel later also.
Awesome I will check them out!!
My current lineup is whatever card I’m working towards a SUB on 😂 I haven’t truly used the multipliers on my cards in like a year cause I’m on the SUB grind with my P2
I love it. I’m not really there since I’ve opened around 35+ cards in the last 36 months. It’s time to slow it down
I always look out for those sales at Staples when they have no activation fee for their gift cards, but I never actually buy them. If I’m not working on a sign up bonus, I’ll have to consider it soon
Looks like the next sale is 12/31-1/6
The staple sales will show on their website for the gift cards or?
@@tarrius1210 I’m not sure. I go to the doctor of credit site for all that kind of news.
Never done the gift card at Staples thing. Seems like an extra step, but 5x UR is a nice reward. My gas card is currently a 2nd BBP during the 75k sub im working on.
Love those big subs on the BBP. Yeah the gift card thing isn’t for everyone. But for me it’s tough to earn a lot of UR points so it’s worth it once in a while.
Love the idea of cash back on vacation spending. But i choose not to spend more than I have/make on vacation, so I’ll stick with the high value cards like CSP to earn the UR points
If we’re doing the math though, a good cash back system often times out earns that CSP for travel. That CSP is earning 1-3 points instead of 5% cash back.
Ooh good point. What would be your recommendation for a no foreign transaction fee cash back card? Good for dining and travel
@@zacharyraper2920 WF autograph comes to mind.
Gas I'm using the blue cash preferred as I just got a retention offer for year 2 to spend 1000 in 6 months and get 75 reward Dollars. Gets 3% at gas station
That’s such a great cash back card since they introduced the credits
For me, yes it's too many, I want to try and set up a good duo or trio, probably a hybrid.
That sounds reasonable. Have you looked at the capital one duo?
@@LukesPointsandMiles yes, two problems for me, I don't have good enough credit for the Venture X yet (I do have the Venture One) and I'm not a fan of annual fees. I haven't out right ruled them out completely. I decided to start with the WF Autograph, but I didn't get it straight away, they requested proof of income so I feel like they're going to decline me, but we'll see. If I get that one, then I may go for the regular Venture card.
Great that you can earn the 5X in staples. I always want to that but no Staples in 300 miles around, and Office Max never had their Master Card / Visa Gift Cards available in stores .
oh man that sucks!
US Bank altitude connect for gas.
Very nice
My current gas card is the 5% back at Gas and Grocery for the first year on the Chase Freedom Flex
Naturally I think you're using too many cards, but that isn't a bad thing, its just because I am not a fan of the splitting points between the different loyalty programs.
it is just a gut feeling that it takes longer to save up points in each loyalty program when spread out like that, thus increasing the risk of devaluation before burning
Yeah that makes sense. I transfer them out pretty fast though. I drain points at least every six months so they don’t sit long.
I am using the 5% first year bonus on the Flex for gas too. It was actually 9% when the quarterly included gas as well. Good times lol!
Right now I use the united airlines quest card the city rewards plus card and the m life las vegas card from the bank of Omaha. I also have the best buy card
That’s a somewhat unique combo!!
Verizon visa offers 4% cash back for gas and 2% back on it for using it to pay your bill. I don’t see a lot of people using it though
its a decent enough card if you are always going to be a verizon customer
Chase Ink business cash for gas, it’s 2%. Also 5% on cell phone and internet .
It’s such a great card
I’ve heard chase frowns upon purchasing gift cards to get UR points. But that’s a brilliant strategy , I’m gonna try that!
I"m currently using my Wyndham Earner Business card for 8X back at gas stations.
very popular card for good reason!~
When I travel, I use the Wyndham Business Earners card for 8x for gas !
So many folks life that card!!
New to the game (Dec’23) but I use Costco Anywhere card for 4% cash back on gas, but I’d like to do better.
Welcome to the game!
I have a rather strange balancing act going on.
1) Primary airline: AA...so I get the Citi and Barclay AA cards.
2) Secondary airline: SW, so I have the Chase SW cards. (CP)
3) Flexible currency: Chase UR to transfer to SW and to BA for AA flights.
4) Primary hotel: Hilton... So have all those Amex cards
5) Secondary hotel: IHG (I miss their Point Breaks and Point Challenges)
Yeah that one is spread out!
The AAA card is really underrated, I am using it for 5% on gas… Being out in CA with multiple vehicles it adds up very fast.
Oh yeah I can see that!!
Any other benefits other than gas ?
@@manny5848 there are two different cards. One gets 5% on groceries and I think maybe 3% on gas?
I have 2 City Cash cards, so my gas and groceries are always covered, I see no use in gold card it is overrated and can be easily replaced and will bite the dust this year, unless I get a good retention offer, which I doubt. My Schwab Platinum will stay for another year.
I think my gold card will be leaving me!!
Great video Luke, lots to digest. For gas, for now, I'm using the AA plat select card, and I have it linked to Shell gas. I recently got plat status with Shell and getting discounts on gas. The Amex credits can be a little bit of a chore, but if you can find a routine I find it's not so bad. For example, I have a favorite restaurant and I just do Uber Eats for pick up once a month. It's somewhere I would eat anyway. Curiously absent in your video was what will you do with your CSP? Will you get CSR?
I will be making a decision on what will replace the platinum card. The CSP will either become a CFF or a CSR. That decision will effect was other things. I have until April to decide.
Careful with linking the card to Shell... I think it removes it from the AA dining program.
ah that's interesting. I dont link anything to shell anyway.@@gregb5876
Great video Luke. Are you chasing any welcome bonuses Q1? For gas, I use the Wyndham business card. I also use it for utilities, phone, cable, etc. Once I eventually get back under 5/24 my strategy will shift more to Chase. For now, since I have been so aggressive, I am all in with AMEX since their cards are so easy to get and none of the major issuers are interested in me right now with how active I've been lately.
I don’t expect any welcome bonuses in the first half of 2024. Time to garden a bit
I’m really thinking of my setup like an nba team with one star, the Amex platinum card teamed up with the chase sapphire preferred and FU, and my fidelity cash reward card that give 2% back on all purchases. Gold card will be out since I get so much value from the platinum including Uber eats
Nice!
I would like to get into the Amex ecosystem, but i find their monthly credits too difficult. I would like to get into the Citi ecosystem, but their only viable transfer partner for me is BA...and then i might as well use Chase UR. If Citi TY ever gets AA as a transfer partner, I would be all in.
I think of citi got AA there would be a huge explosion of new citi customers
Sam’s club master card
didn't receive a notification for this
Apologies!!
I’m using my altitude go for my gas for now it’s 2x per gallon…and also my Quick silver too 1.5 per gallon on that one.
I believe the US Bank cards are underrated in the game
I truly agree with you on that too and great video by the way.👍🏽
@@lifewithjon6809 thank you sir!!
Your welcome.
I am going to start the New Year giving my C1 miles balance a small boost. Since I dont knownanyone with the Savor I'll definitely be looking to use your link.... get you on the right track to more referral bonuses... (does that one give you miles for a referral?)
Ha! I’m not really sure! No one has ever used it. Haha. Thanks for the support!!!
Team hybrid! All the way!
It’s a great way to earn!!
Hilton surpass for gas and groceries.
Nice!!
Kroger card gives 5% back on mobile wallet purchases. I think it it's capped at either $3000 or $5000 spend, but that's not bad for cash back.
yeah it's capped at $3k. i'm not sure that is worth a new account just for that
@@LukesPointsandMiles Yeah the best benefits are free boost membership and something like $0.50 off per gallon of gas in the first year.
I think you’re just bored mate! For a 7% catch-all get a WF Active Cash with 0% APR and stick the money in a 5% HYSA. BBP also works. You’re welcome.
Ha! Thanks for the advice.
I'm using the Biz Amex Gold for gas in 2024 because there's no way I'm keeping that card with the AF price hike.
Haha!! Get those MR points while you can!!
Not keeping hilton aspire!? It’s the best card out there.
Well we shall see. I don’t think I’m keeping two of them.
What about chase freedom for groceries in Q1, it can be miles or cashback
I don’t have that card. But if I did I would def use it.
Are you using business cards as personals? Got a video you can refer me too? On that topic, seems like business cards have pretty good value
I’m not sure I understand your question but I use business cards. I use them for whatever I want. I can easily separate my business spend at the end of the year for tax purposes.
Why not product change to Freedom Flex and have 5X on grocery for Q1?
I dont have the opportunity to product change until i think April. But that's the plan, well, maybe.
I don't think Cap1 wants me. If not for Cap1 VX, what would you choose as your catch-all card? I've been using BofA for 2.625%, but now you've got me second guessing.
I think that BofA is great as a catch all. I think cash back is underrated.
What about that 2.625% compared to Citi Double Cash for 2x Citi points or AMEX BBP for 2x MR? I stay awake at night worried about this. @@LukesPointsandMiles
Why both the preferred from chase business and personal or was it recently added to downgrade the personal
I got the CSP mostly for the bonus (elevated) while I was 6/24. I basically got it just to see if I could with plans to product change it.
Amex Business Gold for gas
Great earner.
hi, have you heard about credit card funding for a bank account? it can either count as a purchase or a cash advance... tried searching in DOC and there are banks that allows this and counts as a purchase (as high as $5000)... is this ok for hitting min spend? if yes, can I pay CC purchases from the same bank account?
I have done it a few times with Chase Cards to hit the bonus. I personally wouldn't do it with American Express and I dont think I would just turn around and pay the CC off with the same cash that funded the account. Normally this technique includes funding for a bank account bonus for a double whammy.
PenFed Platinum Rewards for gas
I have an account with PenFed. I may grab a card from them in 2024!
Ink Cash is so underrated... 5x office supplies - Visa, Mastercard, Amazon, Apple, several fastfood GCs
congrats on 900,000 UR points
Thank you sir. Yeah i plan to really utilize the INKs this year

@@LukesPointsandMiles no as we have 1 EV and will probably get a second this year. No more gas stations for this guy…
I’m leaning towards a card set up. VX for a catch all, savor one for dining groceries and entertainment, Hilton aspire for my Hilton and 1 plane ticket a quarter and Delta reserve since it will actually give me better lounge access now than the platinum.
@@mjsabie8517 Thats definitely an interesting set up!!
@@LukesPointsandMiles yeah I would prefer the platinum over the reserve but I can’t justify both and with the delta changes the reserve gets better lounge access. Don’t leave Amex, Uncle Luke! Us Team Amex members need you to stay. 😂
I will still maintain a relationship with Amex - I will at least have the Blue Business Plus and I might keep all my business cards with them.
I’m holding 5 AmEx cards: Gold, Business Gold, BBP, BBC and Delta Platinum. I feel like one or two of the annual fee cards needs to go. I got a HUGE bonus with both gold cards and the personal is good for restaurants and groceries, but there were 3x and 5x no annual fee options, so I keep trying to replace AmEx Gold, like the two I’m considering in 2024: WF Autograph and Citi Premier. I only really used Business Gold for 4X gas and 4X advertising, but with AmEx’s rising annual fees, I think the Business Gold is on the chopping block, despite the new credits like FedEx, office supplies and GrubHub actually being useful. I’m hoping to make 2024 more about the free cards, too. Anyway, thanks for all the great videos.
Wao it’s difficult think in the life without AMEX 😢
@@warrenescalona3033 definitely a big decision, right?
