If there was a funny comedian who destroys the competition as well as being a nerfer, you are the walking example. The PERFECT one.

As a long time fan (far before minigun creation) I really liked this video. It felt back to the roots of things. And it was super helpful! Also, I would LOVE to see the removal of the hop-up mechanism asap! Cap, you're the best.
czcams.com/video/fMxR9xJrDow/video.html
Here I made a video on it
THIS, I NEEDED THIS SO BAD. I have a really tightbudget for nerf modding so having this type of comparisons at hand is very helpful. Cheers!
I'd recommend an indoor range for accuracy test cuz the wind affects rival a lot
I prefer practical tests. Ones that more closely resemble those of a Nerf battle field under "combat" conditions. Otherwise the results have to practical value.
@@CaptainXavier there are indoor nerf battles, and it's more fun for me too.
The rival is designed for short to medium range indoor shooting
@@CaptainXavier When "testing for science" it is always recommended, when possible, to remove all variables except the one you are testing for.
That way you get a far more useful set of test results.
Something as variable as the wind is obviously going to muddy the results and cant be seriously considered "for science" ;)
Joking aside, I think your testing is great. It gives the viewer enough of an idea of what to expect from a mod or the application of a certain weight spring.
There is a place for 'practical testing' and I think Nerf* is one of those places.
However, you were also right when you said you'd need 4 identical-as-you-can-get blasters to make the test more accurate and eliminate any model variables as much as possible. For the same reason, you'd want to conduct any accuracy testing in an environment where there are as few external factors or variables like wind, loud farts, obnoxious youtube comments and so on, things that you're not testing for, messing up and influencing your results.
Eliminate the variables = more accurate testing... SCIENCE!!!
"She blinded me with science!"
0:04 science.
The only hard conclusion here is that firing light-weight spherical foam outside at anything further than about 5m range is just utterly unpredictable hehe.
Is there a better ball available?
To be fair, it is primarily because of the hop-up. It's meant to increase range, but modding it will make it go wild and spin them out.
Guys, he lives on the West Coast. It's BARELY even 1am on a Saturday night. What else are super nerds gonna be up to ;3 This intro is still my favorite though XD
PARTAY TIME!!
That intro is fantastic
Those as some very interesting results, I look forward to what happens when you remove the hop-up tab.
Great timing on this video, we were discussing this yesterday. The k26 although a heavier draw seems to produce lower results than some newer springs.
Interesting, I just put a K25 and the new metal T-pull from Out of Darts into my Kronos; I can feel the increase in the draw, and the T-Pull is fantastic. Minimal cutting was needed and it is formed to slide around and lock onto on of the screw assemblies in the priming slide.
It would be interesting to see a review of the various T-Pulls for the Kronos.
REAL XAVIER HOURS IS 3 AM
CZcams: who the heck would want to upload at 3am?
Captain Xavier: OH BOY 3AM!
It's about 8:00 for him in Washington.
Still no NFStrike 14kg Longshot spring which does not need any cutting down.
Really? It doesn't? I got one lying around. Does it perform better than a K26 or worse?
I have a longsstrike plus the original Kronos spring nested within it. It doesn't always catch but when I works Jesus it hits hard. I don't use it the feild, mainly just a blaster I shoot in the house at friends and stuff.
Do you get more FPS than with a K26
Salvador Rivera yes it's in the high 150s low 160s but as I said it doesn't always catch so it's not really war worthy
The 14kg NFStrike spring has always caught for me. I have no idea how it performs with a stock Kronos, I've only used it with a Kronos converted to darts where it hits over 220fps. Hence why I want to see it compared.
I've been here since around 5-10k subs, and it's insane how much growth is happening. Hecking awesome, cap'n. Keep up the good work.
You're a pirate, a good HEMA person, a mad scientist, a hecking juggernaut, what in the hecking frick are you not good at?
Talking to pretty girls?
Captain Xavier you never fail to make me laugh. I've been babysitting my nephews, and I can't use my... colorful vocabulary, so I've substituted it for heck and frick.
Very good video as always :) . I put the stock spring back into my Kronos after I swapped it out with an Apollo spring. With the Apollo spring it was hitting about 115 to 120 FPS with NERF HIR. I found Kronos really tricky to prime reliably with the Apollo spring.
In my experience with Airsoft, removing hop up does help accuracy, at the cost of range and a more "natural" trajectory, since the hop kind of "floats" the round level for longer and then it drops off as opposed to without where it follows a parabolic curve downward. But placing the shots tends to be more predictable. THAT said, rival rounds might behave differently?
It's not like Paintball where hop up and rifling are terrible ideas because the mold line seam creates an uneven surface to translate the air over while spinning, right? (This is sarcasm, I am aware of the Rival ball mold seam)
Useful Kronos data here, particularly the effects on accuracy.
Looks like the ceiling for Rival HIRs has been bumped until someone (hint hint) tunes the hop up tabs to match specific spring loads. Shorter tab, less back spin, less drift effect. Otherwise, the only other thing that can improve accuracy is to remove the dimples (new ball design) altogether to reduce the spin effect.
Rivalburns currently hit in the 140-150fps range, but I've still yet to see range data for accuracy. Those aren't currently using any hop up tabs, but it looks like early adopter/users are simply looking at velocity performance, rather than practical use.
Please make more videos like this. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I'm not that surprised Nerf has inconsistencies in manufacturing, pertaining to the stock springs being different in the same iteration of blaster. My family has 3 rapid reds. 1 was purchased on Amazon, and 2 were purchased from K-mart (my wife wanted to duel wield). We got the one from Amazon first. It was rewired (electronic lock removed) with all stock components (motor, switch, etc.). With just 2 imr's, it hits in the 90's FPS-wise and sounds loud and awesome. The ones we purchased from K-mart (they were on clearance), later on, sound and perform considerably less impressive. I also have 2 blue Stryfes and 2 OJ. The OJ with stock components rewired are awesome, reaching close to 110 FPS. The old blue ones rewired, not so much. I get it with the different generation of Stryfes, but it doesn't make sense with the Rapid Red, since there was just one iteration. One of the blues have been redone with 132's, worker flywheels, 21a switch but still running off 3 imr's (4 is shredding darts even with the slight crush of the Worker flywheels; it is topping out around 140 FPS). The other blue got the guts from one of the sweet performing OJ's; that OJ got Goodwill barricade motors😅. Nerfing on a budget 😀
Hello Captain Xavier! I am a fan of science!
So a K26 is a (25 pound)11.5kg spring roughly... but why not the NFStrike 14kg spring? Also 50 foot is a huge range for a Kronos with standard ammo and any spring power... I cant get a Kronos to have any accuracy unless its under 25 feet... As for what you call the hop up tab, or the thing that creates the magnus effect (back spin) on each shot, causing the lift. Think of it like a set of golf clubs with the 1 wood having the most closed face (the least amount of face angle and ball contact,) and the 9 iron having the most open face (the maximum amount of face angle and ball contact). With a K26 spring and a standard hop tab, it is like a 9 iron that you have swung as hard as you can, result = loads of back spin and loads of lift, but no range because the backspin washes off all of the ammos velocity. Removing the tab will be like a 1 wood, signifigantly reducing the back spin and increasing its range, but will not improve its accuracy at range. I have tried removing it, I have made some hop tabs out of silicon in varied widths and depth to see how it would affect the shot, and it varies just like a set of golf clubs. Each time I made it a little smaller in depth and width (reducing the amount of area the hop tab has contact with the ammo,) I got a little more range due to the less aggressive magnus affect (back spin). The only thing I have not tried is rotating the hop tab 180 degrees. In theory, this would cause the shot to accelerate and would also give the shot a more traditional flight path due to appyling top spin... but the same inherant problem will occur. To big a hop tab, to much top spin and the ball will dip very quickly with lots of speed... but I will be testing this theory soon, when I get some more Kronos's in stock.
Any ways, I look at pistols as close quarters combat to short range weapons, and if people are looking at getting sniper statis with a pistol, give it a Katana Mag and brass barrel conversion with a 14kg spring and you will get some serious FIREPOWER!
Keep up the good work though, l enjoy your channel!
Regards Jayson,
Master Built Blasters Perth Western Australia.
That's very strange that you had one primed in the box, being a closed box and all. Nice test, that 10 Kg spring seems like it would be a great and safe ( for the internals ) upgrade.
Great vid. The hop up one will be interesting as have seen others reducing theirs. Good intro, could be an amazing one if you could find a lab coat N thick lensed specs lol. Can't wait for next vid. ThankQ. TkEZ»UK
Rad vid!! Can you test with different ammo? I find the orange adventure force ammo works best.
PS...if you have no plans with the stock springs, I will gice them a home😁😁I got a cammo splitstrike, the springs work great in the blasters!
I really hope the "For Science" videos become a series, if not a staple within the channel. It's really great to see these comparisons and tests.
I really appreciate the effort and work that goes into making, shooting, and editing these videos.
Hey there Captain, I love your videos so much that I bought myself a Kronos to annoy my roommate with, and I actually had a question for you regarding the stock-issue Kronos:
I figured out a way to load the thing with six standard Nerf Rival rounds, without modifying anything, and my question is if it's going to cause damage to any of the components in the long run. My procedure is as follows:
Load five official Rival rounds into the internal magazine thing, and then load a sixth into the barrel through the loading hatch. Press down the five in the internal feeding system, and then hold your finger on top of them while pushing the priming slide forward, so that the internal organs of the weapon block the fifth Rival round in the internal mag from feeding up into the racking system (I'm not completely familiar with all of the techno-jargon, so forgive any miscommunication it might cause lol). Once you push the slide all of the way forward, all five Rival rounds will be contained in the internal feeding tube, while the sixth will be loaded into the barrel, ready to fire.
So, yeah! If this is damaging to the gun, I'd like to know before I ruin a perfectly good Nerf gun. =)
I doubt it will cause any damage. People mod them to take 6 easily enough.
I would love to see what happens with no hop up! Another great vid captain.
As people have said below, unfortunately Rival rounds are just not very accurate outdoors, they wind catches them.
That said, I'm always interested in accuracy tests. After all, it all boils down to 1) accuracy 2) range 3) rate of fire in the end. Everything else is just window dressing.
I'd like to see a similar test with the Adventure Force Havoc, using various springs and darts. I think you'll be surprised how good it is with Worker Gen 2 short darts and a K25 spring. Push the darts all the way back in the clips.
I'm a night owl so my night is your day
I’d love to see the removed hop up test, as it’s something I’ve been considering doing with my k26d Kronos.
I threw the 13 into my halo magnum Kronos mod it performs great!
For some reason, Nerf and Adventure Force rounds are the best rounds for me with increased spring loads (vs. Headshot). I also have found that with my Hades & Prometheus. I performed my tests at 50’ with my dumpster for a target.
Please test removing the hop up asap! I would be very interested to see how that changes things.
The K26 and the 13kg spring should have the same draw/performance because the kg rating of k26 is 13-14 anyways.
I have also heard that the kg rating changes based on the length of the spring. I am not very familiar with the physics of calculating the kg rating of springs though anyways.
Kronos, kronoses kronosi kronoxapottumusses kronoxopottumi Kronossi Kronoxen
SCIENCE!!! When you try to type out the bill nye theme some by memory exept in a weird way: Captain Xavier, Caaaaaptaaaain Xaaavieeer, X X X X X X X X X, CAPTAIN XAVIER!!!
I think the answer to Rival accuracy is more spin, not less. Or at least more consistent and predictable spin. Or heavier rounds which is unlikely to happen.
Idve loved to see the 18k worker spring. I just put one in my kronos and idve loved to see the chrono numbers
Thank you for the science! I'm now glad I ordered the 10kg, I'll be installing that this coming week!
Good choice!
I didn't watch this video first and I now somewhat regret buying the 13kg.
Jebbthecow don’t be, your opponents won’t be able to dodge
@@RamenNarwal It arrived finally and I honestly it is amazing.
Jebbthecow Thats great to know!
Please do the hop up test! But also with maybe the adventure force ammo before and after hop up as well.
I absolutely love that intro😂😂😂😂
I brought up on the sub reddit the possibility of making an after market hop-up for the Kronos that's more suited to higher fps. No one was inspired by my proposal 😅, but I think we could have something there!
Awesome Video!!!!
I’ve gotten a couple of guns from your videos and they’ve seeming had different colored springs. Quite a few I own have had different colored springs from the mod videos I’ve watched honestly
Interesting.
Yes please chop hop up. Im wondering too!!!
SCIENCE!!!
U become more and more funnier every video
You should use something so you are stable for the accuracy tests as slight wobbling can affect the results. Eliminate as many variables as possible
I prefer practical tests. If I cannot replicate it on a Nerf battle field under stressful conditions then the results would be of no value.
I would be interested to see what would happen if you replaced the 13 with a k26 to see if it was the blaster
I have 3 white Kronos myself and two of them have the weaker looking spring . Those two deliver Maverick type ranges and swapping the better stock spring doesn't bring them up to par .
Sounds like they need more than just a spring. My guess would be that the seals are wearing out.
@@CaptainXavier I would agree except one of the weaker was new .
Factory flaws are a thing. Sometimes blasters have issues right out of the box.
Where would I find spring kits with seals ? I only see springs from OOD .
www.etsy.com/listing/688101043/13kg-upgrade-spring-for-nerf-rival
Where do those o-rings go? Great comparison! Thanks.
O-ring 🤔 sounds dirty somehow 😂
We now have all the options for the kronos it is also high noon somewhere so what better then PISTOLS!
You should try to add a brass breach! Curious what the fps would be for stefans.
Find me brass big enough for Rival and I will try it.
120-90=30 :p
You could also add a longer barrel to see what effect that has on FPS and groupings.
A dollar store blow gun should fit after you remove the hop-up tab.
You could try NFstrike 14kg longshot spring, got about 150-160 fps. Worth the try for pure absurdity hehe
Any estimations on the different springs when the Kronos has been double loaded Captain? Maybe your shotgun would be better off with the 13kg spring.
You need to try the containment crew pro fit spring!
Superboom 101 I was hoping that spring would've been in this video. It's the spring I was looking at getting
Don’t forget the Turf spring too. I think a part 2 will be required.
GET A 14KG LONG SHOT SPRING, IT FITS IN WITH NO CUTTING!!!!! IT IS 3.5KG MORE POWERFUL THAN A K26!
Interesting, I put a K26 on mine, and it consistently hits a tree across the street at about 50'
Where can I get the 10kg spring?
Hey, I have a kronos of my own, and the catch messed up a tad bit cause I dropped it on accident, so I took it apart put it back in the place and screwed it back together, but now I cant prime it back, please help
Hmmm, yes....hmmm...I suspect...you did it wrong. Have you considered doing it correctly?
Captain Xavier I'm actually crying cause of that, yes
Idea!! Diagnostics!!!
1co sorry, that was a bit low. Odds are you have the ratchet piece in wrong and it is jamming. Email me a picture of the internals.
I don't know if I'm being dense, but he didn't say where he got the springs?
Like are they the nfstrike ones? Some randoms from banggood?
NFStrike. I mentioned them in my most recent NFStrike Loot reveal video.
Mine is Apollo springed...I really need a chrony because I have no idea what speeds it's getting
I like this series
All of your intros require you hitting your camera in some fashion; well, maybe not Fan Builds, you just kinda yell at the camera on that one. But I'm surprised it's not destroyed at this point. 😂
Im curious.... which is true? Some say k26 doesnt improve rivals that much.... some say it does.... one blaster i tested shot an average 107.1 fps for a percent diff of 13.21, another averaged at 103.8 for a diff of 9.7, another still shot an average 108.18 for a diff of 14.27..... only my modded takedown with an average 132 had an improvement of 39.53% i chrono tested a non modded rival at 94.6 fps average... is the kronos/rival series so varried....or is the takedown just a better blaster?
In all likely good the in consistancy is in the ammo.
Captain Xavier im using only the yellow rival rounds
Why did you have to upload this at 2:34 am?
Matthew Mason it's 8:30 for me
It's 12:38 for me
It's 3:30 am for me
Emmit Diamond well I guess that what happens when you have 50 states in one country
It's 12:39PM for me
K26 is around 12Kg, so makes sense the 13Kg would be a bit better.
50ft? these are for point blank range.
also you were outside
Still pretty new to any sort of performance focused nerf blaster design, what's the purpose of the hop up units? And would it be possible to change how much it affects the balls?
Spectrum it imparts back spin which creates Magnis Effect and keeps the ball in the air longer. And yes, you can change it...but I have not idea what the effect will be.
Captain Xavier || Makes sense, I think it'll be interesting to see if having a weaker or stronger hop up unit would change the accuracy in any way
Captain Xavier Ah I saw someone make a mod video where they cut the Hop up after popping it out, they made 45° cuts on both corners to reduce the contact space. Unfortunately they didn't show the effect it actually had
Keep running into feeding issues on out of the box stock kronos fires one maybe two rounds then the feeding mech jams have u ran into this issue before and if so how did u fix the issue
Nope
Blaster was poorly assembled or just blew apart inside the blaster on first shot the spring on the mech wasn't properly whined feeding mech was contacting the feed tube a little sanding and a little grease on the mech and it feeds beautifully
No sleep crew here lolz
But did anyone MAKE a flywheel one yet😔😔
I'd appreciate a part 2 to this. I've got a k25ed kronos if you'd be willing to test it at the next war we're both at.
For its purpose, the Kronos is a great little blaster. However, when you go to upgrade it, the problems with Rival become so obvious.
homelee665 maybe we should start injecting each round with a touch of metal? Lol
You should've swapped half-shells and confuse the hell out of the enemy. Are you blue? red? phantom?
Red and blue were not out yet when this video was made.
Hey chaylo, is there anyway you could do this for longshots?
Wait for iiiiit....
What's the impact of using the different o rings provided on performance and wear on the kronos?
No idea
Captain Xavier did you use one of the supplued rings, or the stock ring?
And thanks for performing this comparison. I bought a couple of krnoii from the target sale and will order the 13 springs this week!
can i get a link to part 2? i can’t find it
I don't recall if I ever got around to doing part 2.
What is the hop up system ?
I rlly want a Kronos but I don’t have enough money 😒 rip
is there a way to get rid of the hop up
Yes. Remove the hop up tab.
Thank you
Your camera takes a beating in your intros
never been this early
Basically Rival rounds suck
LoL
Hi
hi
Lol
when you dry fire you damage the springs
the me no, the springs aren’t damaged but the plunger head and tube get damaged
