  • @avionmember101
    @avionmember101 Před 8 lety +70

    I disagree when Mo says it's better to leave your hair in wash and go styles. It may be easier for Mo to do it, but because a lot of us ladies don't have as loose curl patterns, our hair easily gets matted and is a nightmare to detangle. Also, doing frequent wash and his with coily hair can easily cause single strand (fairy) knots because the hair is constantly in a state of looping around itself. 8/10 times my hair is in a stretched style and I don't have any problems with elasticity loss, but to each their own

    • @dannif6479
      @dannif6479 Před 8 lety +17

      I agree with you. However, I think the point she was making was that low manipulation is important. I keep my hair stretched also to avoid ssk. But whilst its stretched, I don't touch it. Length retention is almost at 100% due to stretching. But I also don't use heat

    • @UrbanLateNights
      @UrbanLateNights Před 8 lety +11

      +avionmember101 - Yeah, I wear braid outs and have no issues with hair elasticity. My curls always form in the shower during wash day. I have 4b hair. Wash n' Go's are a no for me on a regular basis as well. With 4b-4c hair, wash n' go's have to be redone every 2-3 days or the hair will get badly matted and tangled with knots (even when protecting it correctly).
      But, I agree with +Danni F, Mo was just trying to make an overall point. She wants people to take extra care with their hair when doing high manipulation styles. But, Mo wanted to point out another "possible culprit" to check out. Same thing with the shampoo and conditioner from same brand advice. It may work for some people; but, for other people, they buy shampoos and conditioners from different brands and have no issues.
      I would advise anyone doing braid outs and twist outs not to make your braids and twist too tight. Also, avoid pulling your hair hard while styling.
      We all know their are many kinky curly women, where braid outs and twist outs are their go to styles. These women have healthy hair, and go effortlessly from braid outs to wash n' go's. I think failed wash n' goes have more to do with the person's products and technique more than anything.

      @mizzbambam2008 Před 8 lety +9

      You have to take from her videos what applies to you. I have kinky hair and I love wash and goes. My baby hair isn't even lose lol. I wash my hair once a week and a co-ish wash in between wash days. I say co- ish cause I just apply the conditioner, massage my scalp a little and let it sit. Depending on my mood, I'll either put a shower cap on or let the steam from the shower penetrate it. (I always use lukewarm or cool water on my hair, then crank it up for shower time) I don't have problems with knots or tangling. Sometimes I can even skip the co wash and pull it back to a puff. If I do refresh to get it in a ponytail I just wet it and it combs through with ease. That low manipulation is why I was able to completely chop my hair off (like 3 inches of hair on my head) and 10 1/2 months later at ponytail, puff, low bun length. Straightened, just below my shoulders. Trial and error is key cause not everything she does or uses work for my hair. However her videos are good starting points to start figuring out what works :)

    • @mizzbambam2008
      @mizzbambam2008 Před 8 lety +1

      +mizzbambam2008 I also didn't use heat of any kind although hooded dryers (indirect heat) are safe. I had to chop my hair off at 11 months cause I let a hair dresser straighten it and she scorched it :( but it'll grow back :)

    • @KinkyKoilyKayla
      @KinkyKoilyKayla Před 8 lety +3

      +avionmember101 Yes I agree. I have 4b/c hair and tried a wash and go and it only lasted that day. The next day I had to re-wet my hair and do the whole process all over again so I stick to doing twist outs once a week

    I've been waiting to hear someone on CZcams make the consistency comment (in terms of using shampoos & conditioners in duos)!! As a woman in the sciences, and someone transitioning to a more natural/organic lifestyle- I knew finding products not just with quality ingredients, but similar* ingredients would be critical for the health of my hair!
    Much love, Mo!! Please keep up the great videos. :)

  • @LaniaTheresa
    @LaniaTheresa Před 8 lety +1

    I have found that for me consistently wearing a wash & go has worked against me as my hair is tighter and will knot on each other. When I do twist outs, I don't twist every night (less manipulation), and will refresh maybe every 3-4 days. It's all about balance!
    Great tips Mo! xoxo

I didn't know that could be the cause to not getting my wash n go to look right. I always blame it on the California weather 😟. Using the same line of conditioner and shampoos can help my hair? Now I'm getting excited. This was the most informative video.

    Hi Mo,I am a biracial woman who does not need relaxers, so I am a natural curly girl. I recently cut about 16 inches off my hair. Prior to that I had been permanently coloring my hair black for a few years and noticed my hair was shedding so badly, hence the sudden chop. My hair since cutting is definitely growing, but I still notice shedding and my hair is so thin. I wore my hair in buns for my entire life so needless to say my edges are thin. Can you please recommend a hair regimen to grow thicker hair or am I simply stuck with this thin hair and sparse edges? Thanks and look forward to any suggestions you can lend. I always try to do a wash n go to my hair, but I noticed that in the front... my hair is wavy, in the back... my hair is spirally curly, and the middle is kinda coily. And I've always had that crunchy effect after it dries. So of course to make a matching curl pattern I use twist outs and braid outs... Or I'll just keep it twisted for a couple of days. But then that ends up dry and frizzy and I just put a beanie on it. (My hair is too think for a bun, lots of hair out but when it goes up my bun looks small and ugly). But like you mentioned I've noticed my hair is dry, and frizzy... And has stopped growing. I've only been natural for almost two years so I'm still new to this. I hardly use heat... And dye once a year... I just want to get into a routine that I can handle and can keep my hair healthier.

    One of the best natural hair tips videos ever! Loved the tips about shampoos and conditioners and replacing hair tools. I would like to hear more about leave in conditioners and stylers in a future video. I've noticed that my wash and go's tend to have more residue depending on which leave in conditioner and styler mix I'm using. Should the Leave in conditioner and styler also be form the same brand to reduce residue for wash and go styles?

    Mo I would really appreciate a tutorial for little girl protective styles that would stand a very playful day at preschool.
