I have yet to see a genuine old Dzi bead on ebay. And I have collected them throughout the 80s. They are extremely, extremely rear whitch should tell you all you need to know.

From my observation and what I've learned through self research is that there are classifications you can make through the trained eye. There are fake modern and fake old. Real modern and real old beads. You also have to factor in materials being used to make the beads, wear and tear markings, natural or induced wear and tear markings. Color and glossiness of the the beads. Red or cinnabar markings caused by ferric oxidation, some are induced to make it look more real and usually are fake imitations. Markings on the the beads such as circular or moon shaped marks and chips, some are natural, others are induced by having the beads roll on rollers. Clarity of the etched patterns or totem, consistency in these patterns, and if they are linear. One of the most important observation to also make is to check the threading holes. If there are any wear or worn out edges around the holes, if the holes are perfectly straight through (usually found in modern beads) or not straight through and larger on the opposite end (identification of an older bead).

Gorgeous lotus bead. The ones that have chips or broken pieces off the bead, if it does not go into the design, it then becomes a healing bead and is best to be own by a healer to “heal to healer” as we healers tend to spend our time and energy on healing others, meditation & continuing classes & leveling up to become better healers and in the process we neglect to do routine healing on ourselves. And when we healers are very healthy, we are better conduits for clients to receive healing & we will not then risk passing on the illness/conditions we have to out clients.... and thus, Meier people receive the healing benefits of the healing Dzi (“Zee”) stones.
Now if the chips and broken pieces which cross over the design, renders the stones active work compete, and it needs to be buried in a special place (ie a flower pot on alter, or under a beautiful tree or flower garden in our yard or buried on the grounds of a Sacred site like a temple, cathedral, etc or ancient Sacred spot like Stone Henge or Sedona, California near the big Mesa formation).

You sound a bit sad...selling your babies is tough. Just today, I was unpacking some pottery I patiently had joined together from small bits and pieces. I had recovered them while on a dig in the Four Corners area here in the Southwest 42 years ago. They had been in storage for the past 8 yrs. I now plan to enjoy them in a bronze cabinet along with other artifacts. Goo luck with the sale!
