the imagery surrounding Imarhan's music is something extraordinary - I randomly picked their album (Imarhan) at a music shop in Prague and without knowing who they are, only the album's cover was to cue for me to take it - I certainly loved the music straight away, and we all know it's great. But I'm still intrigued by the imagery, what's so compelling about it? It's so saturated, as if you can feel the heat that it captured while shooting. Anyway, just a thought. Can't wait for the next album!
Ramez N. First things first, Prague is my favorite city in the world. My great grandparents on my father’s side emigrated out at least 100 years ago, and I’m the only family member to have returned since (I’ve been there twice, totaling about 2 weeks worth of days).
With that said, this band is amazing. One of the guys is also involved with Tinariwen, originally hailing from, but exiles from Mali. If you don’t know their music, judging by your liking this, it is right up your alley, too. They’ve been a band since the late 80s, so they have more music, all of it good. I stumbled upon them, after seeing their Tassali album (I think that’s how it’s spelled?) album in the “world music” section of a music store near where I live. On the cover was a sticker w an endorsement blurb from Robert Plant, whom I obviously like, as anyone w good taste in music should.
Long story short, I became an instant fan (I still do yoga to the aforementioned Tassili album), got to see them at the Andy Warhol museum in my city, and it’s thanks to them that I discovered Imarhan. Tomorrow, actually, I get to go and see Imarhan at the same museum where I saw Tinariwen just a few years ago!
