Blue Crabs, On The Side Of The Road

- Blue Crabs, we'll be crabbing in the Tomoka Basin area. Using our ring type traps we'll be crabbing along the road and off a dock. The crabbing was fair, we caught several nice rust color Blue Crabs which usually means they're full of meat. We had a lot of fun that day trying to locate Blue Crabs.

I have a video out in that same spot on the walk way. We fish there everytime we are at tomoka Park. We only caught 2 crabs the whole day.. caught a small red fish and some cat fish.

I like watching your videos, I'm going crabbing tonight myself. I use a long net and scoop net them at low tide at night. Our crabs have to be 5 in hard shell and 3 1/2 soft shell here in Connecticut.
I've crabbed like that before and it seemed like I got a lot more big ones. There is no size limit in Florida but we just keep 5 in crabs or larger. Good luck with your crabbing and Thanks for Watching our videos

@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors still looking around the area haven't quite Found What I'm really looking for I'm hoping to find a crabbing rig that is TurnKey ready but I'm also looking at Old center console boats and just building it into a crab boat like I really want.
You'll find it, I once looked for 2 years before I bought the Sea Hunt and we got just what we wanted at the price we wanted to pay. Good Luck Tim

Try cooking with a steamer basket, add water, beer, white vinegar to the bottom of the basket so that when you add crabs they aren’t sitting in liquid, add crabs, top with Jo Spice #2 seasoning, steam covered 20-25 minutes and pick and enjoy!

Any time you boil shellfish put a 1/4 cup of vinegar in the water and the meat won't stick to the shell.

7 and 3/4? thats INSANE. i've never caught a crab even close to that size. When i catch 6" crabs they look like monsters to me, just caught a 6 1/4" today and i thought he was huge i cant imagine one close to 8".

Zip ties work great to hold the bait on.
That's a good idea, I recently found some bait clips on ebay and used them and they work great and they were only $1.00 each. I never thought of using zip ties, great tip. Always nice hearing from you

Hello thanks for your videos I wanted to tell you and others that the coast guard in Titusville has free teds for crab traps I just left there and they gave me 20 so that saved me 100 bucks I know you put some on your new traps in the last vedio😊😊

You can take crabs like that boil them then put them in a pot of vegetable soup and whatever seasoning you like and put over the heat and simmer slowly tasting until you get the flavor you like. Nothing like a bowl of crab soup boiled crabs to pick with good fresh buttered bread.

Do you ever catch blue crabs by scooping them off of dock/bridge pilings? We use to catch them off of pilings on Long Island. Thing I loved about catching them that way was it's a very clean technique, keeps the boat nice and clean.

Rinse off the crabs, boil the water add salt, crab boil liquid, anything else you like & put the crabs live. Boil 15 minutes. Take them out & enjoy. Cajun cooking, you can't go wrong.

They have pyramid traps that you tie onto your fishing line and kiss them out into the water I try them out they work great you might wanna look into them
We've used them before I'm N.J. We also have some box traps we're going to use
TRY ADDING A SPLASH OF WHITE VINAGER IN THE WATER IT MAKES THE MEAT SWEETER AND RELEASES FROM THE SHELL BETTER
We usually put some vinegar in the water I don't know why we didn't that day we got in late and just started cooking. Thanks a lot for Watching

I`m guessing the Cork is for holding the 3 lines up so they want tangle. Are you tossing the smaller one`s back because it`s the law or just because they don`t have much meat. Enjoyed it Thinking of buying me some of them traps to try.
Right about the cork, a viewer suggested it and it works. There is no size limit in Florida we just throw the small ones because there's not that much meat. Get the metal mesh traps not the cotton net. Thanks again for Watching Chuck

We set our commercial traps 2 days ago and pulled them today and had some good size crabs. But I thought Maryland set the standard. Thanks a lot for Watching
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors I think we used to set the standard , My Crab pots have caught more perch than crabs this year , We have historically low results for winter surveys and populations are down big time !
Sorry to hear that, we used to live in New Jersey and the crabbing was great but that was a long time ago, it's probably the same there.
Using that type of trap how do you know when to check it? Just every now and then, or what?

I hope the picking went better with the boiled crabs. You actually get more weight from crab meat than if you steamed them and drove the moisture out of the meat.
That sandwich sounds like what we do with softcrabs, except no shell. I dont remember the chef showing how to prepare one on any of your videos.
