    The New Heckler eMTB Bike
    ► Build yours: www.santacruzb...
The Santa Cruz Heckler makes rare rides the norm, turns climbs into sections of trail to enjoy and then it’s still as agile and capable as a regular bike so you can enjoy the really great bits of trail. It was made for places like the Lost Sierras and for adventurous, imaginative riders like Greg Williams.

Santa Cruz Bicycles was founded in 1993 in a space the size of a single car garage in the Seabright Cannery, in Santa Cruz California. Our first bike, the Tazmon, was a single pivot dual suspension bike that rattled established sensibilities and helped define our then- ethos of "simply advanced." That bike was the cornerstone for a brand that was founded on the notion of doing things our own way in order to build the best. We have been rattling sensibilities ever since.

I know that this is an e-Bike commercial, but the coolest part of this is legal trail building in California. It’s amazing what happens when local governments support what the community wants and opens their eyes to the economic impact of mountain biking.

Mike L Booblay if the trails are in a smaller area, several tickets from rangers will spread by word throughout the community
While I think e bikes should be allowed on all trails, e bikes do allow riders to ride a single trail a lot more (ex: 4-1 in the same time), which means the trails the volunteers work on are hammered and destroyed faster. I personally don’t mind but it seems like the governments don’t like doing more than the bare minimum of work/putting money in the trails.

I can't tell you how many laps I've done around the lakes basin in the last 3 years on my Levo, thank you DVO!!
Almost as much fun as a moto.
Wanna have a great e-ride? out of town up 1st, up 2nd to the bridge, and back down 3rd to town, all in about 2 hours.
Or you could do that AND chimney rock all in one day!!!
Or howa bout out and back on North Yuba faster than you've ever imagined??
Either way, ebikes are here to stay and they open the world around D-ville to EVERYONE!!
Remember, motos ruled the roost here till them dang MTBR's came in and joined the party.
We are lucky all 3 disciplines are allowed and that everyone gets along.
Haters gonna hate, but it won't stick when we are riding our ego busters by them.

Considering I threw up at the top of the climb at the Downieville Classic last year, and still got second in beginner class, I can see how this would make sense up there. I think a better way to frame it is that there are not enough riders willing or able to take on these climbs to reach these descents, but E-bikes open it to enough riders to make it commercially successful and help rebuild the area. I also attended and worked at a summer camp in this area and the economy was really bad, so anything that helps is good. Taking an E-bike is better than a car shuttle too, which is what most riders do in Downieville. Interesting the shuttle guy is now pushing E-bikes and not seeing them as competition!

This thought of being able to ride longer & farther is exactly why there is multiple decades of dirt bike riders enjoying rural trails. Maybe the e-bike will bridge the gab between mt bikers & dirtbike riders. Many of us dirt bike riders are mt bikers also, that love the outdoors. Unfortunately there are always a few idiot dirtbikers that give us a bad name.
I'm looking forward to flying to CA to enjoy this tour ride with my son one day.

It might be a good idea for around Downieville, but MOST places don't have 1000's of miles of unridden trails closeby. Most places have a much more limited amount of trails and e-bikes unless they are only allowed to be used on trails that currently allow for MOTORIZED vehicles, which it is (no matter how much you pedal in eco-mode) then the sanctity the comes with mountains will be gone, or seriously minimized, which I think is a huge bummer. Thankfully I live in OR and we have already these laws on the books.

    • @8AFatTurtle8
      @8AFatTurtle8 Před 4 lety

I've been riding there for over a decade, many of those first years on 100 to 120 mm xc bikes. This was before the dropper seatpost was everywhere too. I've also done it on long-travel, slack bikes. If you are a good rider with bike handling skills, you will be fine on your xc bike and have much more fun. With the word "downhill" getting thrown around so much people forget that you have to pedal up most of the day. On slack, long travel bikes and their wandering front ends, that is not that fun. Yes, there are rocks, but you're not hucking ten foot drops, you're just riding over rocks. I've never bottomed out or had trouble with short travel suspension. On top of that, if you do have a dropper post for the occasional, really steep section, drop the post and you're now on a slack bike. No problem. Go there and have fun.

Hilarious that’s the marketing angle. 4700 is easily doable in a day by a weekend warrior like myself who isn’t even in shape.

If an e-bike allows you to enlarge your adventure radius, why not ride a motorcycle? They are legal on these trails and you could ride even further.

why not an bike ? Of course a 4 stroke is a blast.... but i'm sure this bike would be too.... but with out the noise....

Mountain rescue will be hating the e-bike manufactures after a few e-bikers have to be rescued from up there with flat batteries, dead motors or because people aren't fit enough or not fully prepared for the mountains.

E-bike kind of has Roller Blade connotations. It will be Interesting how safe trails will be when over run by e-bikes.
Although, I’m all for them for people with ailments that would otherwise prevent them from riding....but the out of shape couch potato who doesn’t want to put in the time will be the issue.
E surfboards would cause the same safety issues.
E cigarettes are another Joy to the World.

It bothers me seeing guys skid on purpose on trails, but to know he's doing it on a 46 Lb bike. Cringe.
