  • So on my previous video about my home port I said I would come across to Rathlin and give you a quick look about. This is just a short 6mile sail across the Rathlin sound from my home port you can also get a ferry across here if you don’t sail. There is lots of walking on the island which can be made as easy are as difficult as you like the island has a pub,guesthouse,hostel,glamping pods and a little coffee type shop. The island is very scenic with lots of wildlife so keep an eye out for the golden hare over here. Sorry about some of the sound but we had serious bad wind and I’m still waiting on my new mic coming.. get on the web and check out the island ⛵️

    I could be wrong, but i remember the guy on the puffin bus saying that wee harbour had something to do with the building of the western lighthouse. Had a winch for pulling materials up?
    Great video.

      adam8642 you are 100% that’s exactly what the wee harbour bit was made for... I only found that out after I made the video.

    Good video James, good to see you are out so early in the season. Rathlin Island is high on my bucket list and you have just reminded me it's time to get the anti fouling painted on the bottom, and get her launched!!
    Fair Winds.

    hi James Great film, my 82 yr old mum lives there and I shared your video and she thought it was excellent. She looks over the bay there and saw the two of you carrying the bouys down to the boat. lol. You showed me places there I ve never seen. Keep it up

      Phil mcb aww no way.lol. Yes that north side of Rathlin has some serious amount of buoys washed up. I’ve came here for many years now so we explored some harder to get to places and well it never failed to amaze me. We found some serious caves/mines yesterday heading round from Mill bay to the south lighthouse along the coast have the video on my fb ...they were unreal found some peoples names in them way back from 1882 and some from the war times... was really good. Love this wee island

      Skipper james Sigma 33. I enjoy the videos, but I think you need a head mic to cancel the wind noise.. And get the wee man a hat, the head is foundered off him..

      @Skipperjames  Před 4 lety +1

      Michael Peoples 😂😂 won’t do his big head no harm. Yeah have mic but waiting for the wee box and case for it then it should be all good. I hate that wind noise myself. Thanks btw⛵️

    I was last there in storm Hector. Was interesting!

      Geoff Crowley I bet it was bumpy the pontoons would do your head in banging about

      @@Skipperjames The marina was full! Loads of fenders out, and them all pressed flat! I crawled along the pontoon early in the morning (could not walk) and stood up with my handheld anemometer. 50 knots at eye level. It was the St Kilda Challenge race the next morning. We set off about 10am.

    When the best tide time to arrive at rathlin

    • @Skipperjames
      @Skipperjames  Před 2 lety +1

      Rathlin can be entered at anytime of the tide. Coming into rathlin sound from either direction you need the tide with you as it’s very strong and there is lots of overfalls Eddie’s so be aware of wind against tide are bad weather. Once into church bay all dies of well. Check the Reeds almanac are have a quick look at Visit my Harbour on the web. I use Dover tides. When tide is high and it starts ebbing it runs out to the west. When on the flood it runs back into the Irish Sea. Check tidal flows on tidal flow diagram. It’s also in the almanac
