- How To Put A Professional Tip On In 9 Minutes.
www.thesnookergym.com
If your tip comes off in a match, you will generally be given 15 minutes to repair it or put a new one on.
This video shows how I learnt to put a tip on that can be played with instantly - all in 2 minutes.
I recommend Titan tips as they are harder than the Elkmasters I used to use. Elkmasters would always split, be too soft or too inconsistent throughout the box of 50 to put one on without it being very short and close to the ferrule when put on as new.
Titan though plays like a new Elkmaster with no hardening required - and are very consistent.
Pro Granite I have tried but I found them to be TOO hard to the extent that the tip did not grip the cue ball properly until it seemed to soften up after 5 days solid use - I have never had a tip get softer before!
The layered tips I don't believe in despite all their marketing (even if they are made of flying pig skin and araldite!).
I feel that with a layered tip, the contact point on the cue ball will always be an inconsistent blend of leather or the adhesive used to bond the layers together.
I think it is marketing based rather than anything else. - Sport
One of the better "How to put a Cue Tip on" by a very good UK coach.
John Welsh thanks John
Very informative and easy to understand video. Thanks for posting it!
Thank you Bush putz!
Great video, simple clear and very well explained. Thank you for your help, Good Job
Thank you Super Tube King!
Nice job. Just ordered Gel. Big TA !!
+Ste Appy Does it work ok?
fantastic thanks
kingshearer2 welcome
I agree. It's the easiest way. Although what happens if it happens in a match and it's not the session interval or mid-session interval
Need to learn how to replace a tip in the 15 min time limit!
nb, you are an artist in everything you do. what is that triangular blade called and where do you procure them?
Thankyou. Stanley Knife blade - available in hardware stores
Very nice tutorial! I purchased a new tip for my snooker cue (my cue requires a 9 mm tip). I found that it was very difficult to align centrally because I had no room for error. Would I have been better off getting a 10 mm or even a 11 mm tip and then trim back so that it is parallel with the ferrule?
jazzyman99 Yes - or buy 3 X 9mm tips to give you two mistakes before setting it perfectly.... due to this reason I now use the liquid not the gel glue as the gel tends to spread the tip from side to side when I compress it into the ferrule. I have 9mm myself and prefer not to cut a tip down if I can help it.
+nicbarrow Yes me too in fact - I reached the same conclusion
Hi there your ferrule seems knocked or damaged a bit at the top. One of my snooker ques doesn’t seem to have a flat surfice when I remove a tip. You recommend changing the furrel and even the surfice? I think the furrel is not 100% flat. Maybe an error from factory.
You can make any unflat ferrule flat by using a metal file... and this job is the most important part of putting a tip on
scratched and ruined the ferral. put tape around it to protect it while doing this everyone
you NEVER put tape on a ferrule, you finish with wire wool and the ferrule stays fine
s nick black tape leaves no marks or stickyness from the tape. Don't mind all that hassle BLACK tape does absolutely no harm and protects your ferral beautifully thank you
Conor Harkin good point. i tned not to but it would protect it more if i did so for sure
nicbarrow i tried it but it can take the patina off the wood so next time i will put the tape on the ferrule only with no overhang on the wood
Have to say I'd be a bit worried if my cue came to me and asked me for a new tip :o
***** Mine has a mind of its own!
+nicbarrow what tip size would you recommend if I'm buying a new cue? and what's the ideal tip size of a snooker cue?
9 to 9.5mm
I have a question which is slight ly related to the tip. Is it possible to replace the ferrule. Mine is badly scratched and a bit damaged or would I have to buy a new cue
Stephen Lambert u can get a new farrow take a player squeeze it not to hard and spin player with farow it will come off also before putting new one u want put super glue on the inside so it wont spin
Mickael Cohen Thank you man it worked as well. Your a legend
Glad it helped
Hi, Nick, could u pls advice what kind / brands of the tips is better for screw back and stun shots ? soft / hard better ? thanks !
I use Elk Pro Medium now
Thanks bud just changed my first tip!
Gustavo Fring Congratulations.... please let us know how you get on with it!
Gustavo Fring Any time Gustavo - it is my pleasure to help!
To speed things up, I recomend having a small bottle of CA kicke, that hardens the CA in an instant.
CA kicke?
tips on best tips to buy please for snooker cue?
Elk Pro Medium or Century G3/G4
Hi there Can you make video on Different types of Tips Available in market better mention different Brands
I just use Elkmaster Pro or Talisman medium - I am happy with those so don't feel I need to test any more.
very nice
سليمان الحسن Shukran Jazeelan
Didn't know Shaolin Monks played snooker. ;)
+Lee Barker I am in study!
i am having a soft tip ....so whats the common breath size of tip
Elk pro Medium 10mm
Hi I bought a new cue with a Blue Diamond tip. It is an old unused cue and the tip seems very hard. Is this normal or should I change the tip? Is this a special cue tip? It is Ronnie o'sullivan signature cue from BCE.
I use Elk Pro Medium now
The easiest way to replace the tip is to go to a snooker hall and ask for it to be changed for a small fee. That's how I do it, works every time.
Risky to rely on club folk to do it....
What kind of wood is that cue made off?
Ash
I use an oversize tip then let it harden and tip it upside down and cut but I LIKE Your cut good job'
KristaL Mac LeoD How do you let it harden?
nicbarrow i let it sit and get tacky then use 2 elastic's to keep it tight and most times leave it set over night then use a sharp blade and do the cut and i also use a touch of spit to keep the loose fibre down and smooth sand it using other side of the sand paper .
yo, where do you get titan tips from?
I now recommend and use Elk Pro Medium
Where is the bit where you glue your fingers to the shaft or stick your fingers together?
+CommonSenseMan1 'LOL'
You make it look so easy. The other thing is, this assumes that all ferrules are perfectly flat and horizontal. I don't think I have had a cue yet that is. Always looks wonky no matter what I do :-(.
+CommonSenseMan1 Getting the ferrule flat is 90% of putting a tip on - and is the step 90% of people miss!
Consider using a cyanoacrylate accelerator once the tip is set in place. It will instantly cure and the chance it will slip out of place is zero. You just spray a little accelerator on the seam area and the whole joint will solidify. No need to soak the area.
I ONLY use those!
What do I do if my ferrule is not right?
+Dumitru Vatavu Filing the top of the ferrule flat is the number one priority
wow nic.. nice tutorial. but the shirt you wear is in early 90's hahahhahgaa
I agree! I still have them both and was going to auction them for charity but am too embarrassed to even do that!
Im surprised ge didn't use the clamp to hold the tip for 24 hours. If the glue is so strong, can anyone tell me the make.
Any cyanoacrylate super glue
superglue done
That is what you need
Dat shirts tho...
+EvelcyclopS Dont wear it anymore!
Nic' I have a John Parris (Special) Custom made 4 a smaller player ( 20 or so year's old)1 piece Perfectly straight (18 -0UNCES) Excellent wood) You hear of Some1 looking' finders fee of choice .
+KristaL Mac LeoD put on ebay or fb
Use cyano accelerator.
ALWAYS!
nice shirt Rudolph Nureyev
fradaja i dont wear it anymore!
nicbarrow this shirt is amazing haha ;) great videos man
Welcome!
u will have to replace the tip. get a new tip that is not very hard and practice with it to settle it down. as for the cue it does not matter what kind of cue you have as long as you get comfortable with its weight and length.
I use Elk Pro Medium now
i salute your fine wig sir
Too much hair gel!
My tip is a piece of shit, literlly that I found on the club floor. Timely, as the tip I had on my cue was so fine and weathered down I'd try to play with screw and the ferrule would hit the ball. I'd love to get a proper new tip, I just don't know where you can get them.
I use Elk Pro Medium now
How To Put A Professional Tip On In 9 Minutes.
planetX15 lol
nicbarrow Great video nonetheless, was 12 minutes just an estimate?
planetX15 i thought it was 12 from start to finish (the idea being that you have 15 minutes to change a tip in a pro tournament)
bad advice if the blade slips it goes down the shaft and ruins ur cue
Yes I have seen that with a player whose blood spurted all over the wall in the snooker club!
Nice Vid and it`s amazing reading the comments how many computer chair fucking experts there are in this world , i know how to put a tip on but always looking for extra tips and found some here ...peace
Entertaining isn't it!
you just butchered the ferrule
Flattened it.
This is a cowboy way of putting a tip on. For the tip to set it's better to use a clamp. Tapping down with the thumb is going to knock the tip
tawheed defender I dont like the way the clamps compress the wood. i have never had a problem with tips falling off with this method and with quick set glue it is set before you get the clamp in place. i sometimes press cue horizontally into a wall just after placing it
bo
+nicbarrow Renowned cue maker Rodney Hinde showed me how to do re-tipping and he never used a clamp either. I've never had a bad one.
I had a cue from him once
they may say it comes with a blue diamond tip, but it does not, it comes with a cheap nasty tip, the cue and the tip are made in china. buy a decent tip it will make a huge difference. adr147.
A huge difference!
way too much glue imho
Better a little too much than a little too little AngrierGorilla! I have found that even a slight lack of glue under one part of the tip can allow it to break or fall of much more easily - not to mention to striking the cue ball solidly enough...
People who play snooker, and are any good, usually have more than good enough hand eye coordination to do this safely. Stop being a meladramatic delicate little flower :-)
Nice one!
aaahaha why the fuck were you tapping the top of the tip !
To harden it.... AS EXPLAINED!
Sorry do not mean to offend but you tutorial is wrong regarding tip replacement
The method has never failed me personally....
😬 wouldn't let him anywhere near my cue, stick to the coaching 🤣.
Neither would I!
Snooker cues are so ugly compared to billiard cues here in the states.
Snooker takes accuracy and billiards takes way more knowledge and creativity. Snooker is only popular in Europe. Billiards is popular in every other country. I wonder why Haha. Oh and always, go USA! The best country in the world.
www.poolchat.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8428
Read that article. He puts it in amazing words.
Andrew Ryan I've seen way more creativity on a snooker table than I have on a American Pool table. There's more forward thinking and tactics involved in a game of snooker than in a game of pool.

Well said.
Amateur's
There is only one of me!
me!! type adr147 into google or ebay.
Indeed!
That shit put me to sleep
I will try to do a tip on in 4 minutes video next!
The fact that this video is 9 minutes and 24 second determine that the title is a lie. Shame on you sir, shame on you.
+Elfi Daniel Have changed it!
I must reason that if a chap has made it thus far in the said sport of low breathing then the chap sould know this. To me however, I learned that glue is really used for this. Billiards school? Really? I'm now confused as to how much money a graduate earns on average. Is it much like pimping or rather close to gang banging? Then again, is it more like drinking half as less and gambling the wife's advancement away?
Yes
He is butchering that ferrule, its utter twaddle.
Just doing my best!
BOOOOOOOOORING....
Tried to do it in two mins for you but cut the cue in half!
the worst tip of how to put the tip
I can only do my best!
