the best way to handle narcissists like that in most situations is to act like they don't exist, ignoring them as they are seeking emotional reaction to their drama.

Third story OP, heres a hug. You didn't do nothing wrong. What it is that your sister-in-law is jealous of, you. Don't know why but there could be many reasons and because she basically needs a rival to survive, she picked you as her rival. I'm neurodivergent and while I cannot speak for the person you served, it would mean the absolute world to me if I had a server like you. You are such a kind person for what you did. Sometimes ignoring the awful person in the background is the best way to go about things as confrontation (in front of the person) can make things so much worse. Showing kindness overwrites that 10000 fold.

My father in law was a very decorated Navy Vet, he's actually kind of famous as he shot down two Mig jet fighters in Vietnam. He was in the battle of Dong Hoi and shot down two fighters with a Talos missile and he has the record of firing the first naval surface to surface and first surface to air missile and he has been verified as having the highest kill count of the Vietnam War due to serving on every missile cruiser in Vietnam and the large targets he destroyed with missiles. He totally despised having people saying thank you for your service. He felt guilty for killing so many people especially when he did it from a ship and they soldiers never knew who killed them. He said it felt like people were saying thank you for killing so many people and he didn't like that. My father was a Air Force Air Police in the first Air Force commando unit and had to take multiple lives when his airbase in Vietnam was almost over run and it changed him.

The first story, I’ve met so many veterans who never wanna talk about what they went through. The only one who’s told me is because that shit affects you, down to the bone. For some, it’s not a matter of pride, to wear as a bumper sticker or a flag. It was because they felt they had to, whether it be because of patriotism, or they literally needed something like health care or cash for college. Like, that shit isn’t glamorous, it is nerve grating.
And that second story? I’m so glad OP didn’t let that bastard get to them, or that fellow. As a fellow person on the spectrum, I hate it when people try to make fun of it, like it’s some oddity or a marvel (like we’re all supposed to either be some idiot or some genius with zero social skills), it’s just so irritating. Plus, shows how little they know about being on the spectrum.

On a general basis, most veterans who actually walked the walk and talked the talk don't broadcast it for all to see. We just want to live our lives.
But if you make us have to get ourselves dirty again, we take that to heart and we fight nasty. This was kot a petty move the story 1 pulled, he simply eliminated his adversary with an equal force counterstrike. That's just common sense.

My mom is a veteran, and she might have a truck under her name, but she doesn't drive it. • @jsanchez23
    @jsanchez23 Pƙed 7 měsĂci +1

Honestly feel like everyone is actually missing the point on that final story. I don't think it's really hardly about the the guy to begin with, he just serve as a new perspective and look in the mirror. Whether he worked hard to get there or not, shes putting in tons of hours and it sounds like despite that, she's barely making enough to live and exist. She's questioning her career path and wondering if she made a mistake, as whether he worked hard to get there, he's working significantly less hours and making around 10 times what she does working more. So she'd understandably like to have a better work life balance to be able to at least aspire to to work less back breaking hours and still be successful and able to enjoy the money she makes working hard.
Though in similar financial fields there often is the potential for nepotism, so she may admittedly resent that given she feels unequipped for said job based on the testing, but he was too and got it through his interactions with the ceo. Obviously if she is resenting him for that reason, that does suck and is kind of toxic, but I still don't think the majority of her sentiment is about that. Its more about herself and feeling like despite her own hard work, she feels like a failure and doesn't know how to potentially change that. But seeing his success holds a mirror up to her own personal career path and makes her wonder what she did differently and if she can still shift her career path. Now that she realizes how bad of a position shes in comparatively, as before she didnt have another point of reference for someone in a similar field and place in their life.
I know everyone seems to think all she cares about him is about his financial situation, but I think thats kind of a massive leap and assumption. As we just don't know or have any additional info to inform such a belief. Especially as this post was about her career and financials, so thats what shes talking about, its not relevant to mention how she loves his passions or other facets of him as a person, as its not contextually relevant. As I really don't think this is about him for the most part, same thing could have happened if she happened to talk to a random stranger at a bar in her same field and found out how her circumstances compare and fall short of that stranger. She was ignorant to the fact that she was doing worse than she thought was expected in that field.
I mean if I'm wrong and this is somehow the entire focal point of their relationship, then ya that obviously sucks and is awful, but without additional context to inform that, I don't think its fair to assume this is a red flag and she actually is toxic in a relationship.
That's one thing I do really dislike about a lot of these reddit stories, so many people fill in blanks with details that just don't exist to fuel their own narrative and beliefs based on little actual basis or merit. Doesn't mean they couldn't be right, but when every post triggers red flags and outcry to divorce or breakup based on very little information. Since sure some of the times they're right, but when the worst is assumed for every post, obviously it cant always be the case.
Sometimes it really is just a case of Hanlon's and or Occam's razor. Just wish we could more often let the facts inform our feelings and not our feelings inform the facts.

Bro my dad doesn’t look like a veteran but he is he served in the British army as a tank commander he was discharged after his tank was disabled all his crew died because he got out of there he told me that his tanks turret came off and he was traumatised now 10 years later he is loving and caring the only rule is don’t remind him of the horrors of war

It funny, because where I live, in Israel everyone have to serve 3 years in the army. And the discounts are for soldiers in uniform. that how they prove that they are soldiers.

the second story hits way too close to home for me since i was diagnosed with autism as a child now as a autistic adult in their late twenties i often enjoy educating people about autism and the challenges of being autistic. no matter what nobody has the right to make fun of someone for having a autism diagnosis nothing in this world gives you the right to make fun of me or anyone who is autistic before you think about making fun of me for being autistic why not try learning about autism and my challenges that i deal with on a daily basis and learn about my abilities as a autistic person if you stop and do this you would be way more understanding and less likely to make fun of me for being autistic

Ok buddy, how about you get out of the recruiting office and actually do something. Just because you went to basic doesn’t mean you know who a veteran is and who is not.
For example, I will stand for the Pledge/Anthem as semblance to the armed forces, however I do not hold my hand over my heart as I refuse to “swear an oath” to a nation that is corrupt. I do that and yet I’m still an American citizen.
You don’t need a overly-patriotic vehicle to be a veteran. In fact, a good portion of veterans I’ve spoken to only have a couple of stickers at most on their vehicles.
