  • In this part one of two videos I explain my plans for setting up what I feel will be the ultimate backpack for my needs and/or systems. The 24 is my personal favorite backpack but it does have some shortcomings and with help from a few BDS Tactical pouches on the outside and a few Vanquest pouches on the inside I feel I'll create the ultimate pack. For me of course.

    Interestingly enough I first subscribed to you after your reviews of the Rush series packs. There have been so many imitators of that design so I guess it's proven to work. Love how you're combining your various equipment. Thanks Tim!!

      @GearReviewDepot  Před 7 lety +2

      Exactly. As you know I had the pack and I always use Vanquest pouches but I was going through large bin of pouches and other items and found these BDS products, I have lots of BDS gear but it's mostly for the range so I thought I'd use them on my pack like I have in the past. The 24 is great but it's not the best for external pouches or carrying gear, some BDS pouches will fix that perfectly and save me from searching inside for gear.

  • @juergenedgarmauriciooberfr2745

    I also have the rush 24 and that's my go to work EDC bagpack and I absolutely love it

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Před 7 lety

      The RUSH12 and my Vanquest Mobius 2.0 are my go to EDC bags, the 24 for me is a little too big for EDC. Great pack for whatever it's used.

    Looks like my pack, netted hammock with canopy on one side, sleeping pad on the other, and sleeping bag on the bottom. Works for me. Great video Tim, thanks for sharing.

    There is something unbeatable about the 24. I think they just 'hit the spot' with it.

  • @Ayrton4everrr
    @Ayrton4everrr Před 5 lety +1

    5.11 makes great stuff. I have the rush 72 for camping with the family, and the patrol bag for work. Thinking of buying the rush 24 to use for work everyday, and carry my gym stuff in it. I prefer a backpack then the patrol bag as a way to carry. The patrol bag serves me well, just need to change my carry options and maybe use the patrol bag when going to the ranges and save my money in a new range bag. Thanks as always Tim for the great reviews. Keep it up 👊🏻

    There's some webbing on the bottom of the pack, could attach stuff there with long straps.

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Před 7 lety

      Absolutely. I rarely stand my pack on the ground anyway, it's mostly hung in a tree so that would be a great spot for hanging more gear if needed.

    If your doing all the pouches, why not just get the 72?

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Před 7 měsíci

      I actually have the 72, I have the 12 as well. I like the 24 because it’s the perfect size for an EDC pack, hiking pack and everything else. Need a little more space, add the pouches. Don’t need the space for a short day hike? Remove the pouches. It’s about options, I like options. Unfortunately the BDS Tactical pouches are no longer available, but the 5.11 pouches will do just fine… is what I usually tell people now.

  • @5angels332
    @5angels332 Před 7 lety +1

    I love my Rush 12 but really wished I'd bought the 24 instead. I have side pouches fitted but when full they do take away an amount of space from the main pack. Tarp, bed roll, hammock, tent etc could easily be fitted on the underside of the pack, there are fittings for this but no straps. Like you I prefer Vanquest pouches. Maxpedition have become so overpriced and are resting on their laurels. Sadly BDS Tactical are not available yet in the UK. Keep 'em coming Tim, nice review.

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Před 7 lety

      Yeah the 12 is a great pack, it's what I use for an EDC bag but I could never hike with it. The 24 is what I grab most often.

    Can anyone recommend a decent hip belt to go with this pack please.

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Před 2 lety

      The 24 isn’t designed to be used with a hip belt, not a belt to take some of the pack weight off of the shoulders. I do believe it has the attachment points to feed a thin strap through, but that’s just to keep the pack up against the back and not actually carry any weight.

      Cade Hollowell Honestly I don't think so but it depends on where you are going, what you're wearing and how much gear in all you'll need. I do feel the 72 hour pack could get the job done.

    Perfect timing on those BDS pouches, I have been looking at those exact two. If you have time on your part 2, could you show the admin pouch a little more close up ? I know the horizontal pouch is just a pouch, but do need more info on the admin pouch.

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Před 7 lety

      Their pouches are fantastic, made very well. BDS always uses the highest quality materials and their zippers are no joke! I've had this admin pouch for roughly 5 years or so but I just looked on their site and it looks as though they'er still using the same proven design. I honestly thought I reviewed this pouch some years ago but it looks like I haven't. I'll have it done in a day or so.

    Yes I love the 511 rush line! I just started following your channel. I love your bag reviews thus far. I am looking for a bag to hold all my gear, but I want something that is durable, yet comfortable. That is essential. My question to you is ...without the second (compression strap) on or along the bottom or lower part of the pack like most pack's it has 2 to tighten down the load? Is that not a big deal?
    Question 2....without the (hip belt) on the bag how does the load feel on your lower back?
    I am looking for a bag to take hunting/camping/hiking that is funtional, durable and comfortable. What would you suggest?
    I am going to keep watching you and Aaron at Gideons Tactical
    Love your videos and your talks/rants lol. Keep them coming.
    Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Před 7 lety

      The 24 didn't come with a padded belt like the 72 does, it came (I think) with just a thin waist strap that was loaded bearing, it was just to sort of hold the pack closer to your body and prevent the pack from shifting around. I don't like the waist straps I always fold them away or remove them completely if I can. Even with the 72 I folded it away. So I think the 24 comes with a strap but it's not to hold the weight to take pressure off your shoulders. As for missing the lower compression strap, honestly I've never noticed it not being there. Very few of my packs have two side compression straps, I don't recall just having one being an issue. The 24 is seriously a great pack, made very tough and I feel very comfy, even more comfy that the 72 which is why I'm outfitting the 24 with some external pouches for convenience. The 24 can do it all, it's not too big or heavy and not too small.

    Maxpedition has really fallen of my radar in the last couple years. I can’t really explain why but overall I have found other companies I like much better. Too busy and heavy is most of the issue. I used to buy so much ...bags, pouches even some redundant items. I have sold some abs need to clear out more. They have tried to update their designs but I prefer simpler packs from tactical tailor. I use separate bags like ones from karfaru to keep bags organized.

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Před 7 lety +1

      Yeah back in the day Maxped was where it was at, almost nothing better. Nowadays the qaulity took a deep dump and prices are too steep for what you get.

  • @chuckv5150

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Před 6 lety

      I feel they are overpriced for the quality and materials used in their products. Their customer service is also seriously lacking, I know several people that had issues with a product they recently purchased and basically was shrugged off. I was also told by someone that worked there abut some internal issues that are going on and the lack of care for quality control. There are far better companies that I'd rather give my money to or help promote that use far better materials at a better price who also know the importance of customer service.

      TheTacticalDefender I have the 72, and the Moab 10, but still not sure about sling bags

    • @GearReviewDepot
      @GearReviewDepot  Před 7 lety

      I like sling bags, very functional and serve great as an edc bag but don't fit or look very good on guys with a little extra weight. They seem to wear far better on thinner people. Regard;ess I like them and use one every now and then.
