    You can't compare money directly converting like that. You have to take into account the cost of living. Here, a 2 bhk apartment is rented for Rs. 15000 per month. So, 60000 is 4 months' worth of rent. 60000 is an entire month's salary for most people. Directly converting it to US dollars won't give you the true sense of how much the actual value is.

    If you want a fair comaprision , consider the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) of the Indian Rupee.
    For example , an article you'd get in the US for a dollar you'd get here for around INR 20. So a bottle of water for Rs 200 comes to about $ 10 ; which if you ask me is quite expensive.
    Also the ticket prices come to about $3000 for 4 tickets.

    @walterkovacs6117 Před 4 lety +1

    U have to calculate the amount vis a vis the purchasing power parity(ppp) of the people,since the cost of living varies vastly in different countries. It's called THE BIG MAC theory. A big mac burger costs around 5.5 USD in the US,and 240Rs in India. The exchange rate is 1USD=71Rs. But if u equate the price of big mac in both the countries,the actual rate of exchange will be around 3 USD and some change. So u gotta equate the PPP of the countries to get the actual value of exchange.
    For eg, an indian citizen can have 3 meals in a day with just 100Rs,and that's around 1 dollar snd 30 cents. But someone in the US can't,with a dollar and 30 cents. Cost of living plays a huge role and hence foreign exchange rates cannot be equated to understand the economic situation of a country

    U can't convert the indian rupee into us dollar directly and compare because avg income in india is around 800-900 dollars per month whereas it will be more than 4000 dollars in US

    When it comes to purchasing power parity, a rupee spend in India can get you more things (in India) then a dollar can get you in America.... So 60000 rupees roughly translates to around $2100..

    Compared to what $850 is for Americans, 60k Rupees is a big amount for Indians. Also, a bottle of water costs only around 20 cents, while in the concert it was of $3. Again, 200 Rupees is a big amount for Indians, as you can easily have dinner in that amount in a decent restaurant for 1 person.

    In the USA ,it's as if you pay $2 for a bottle of water, but at the concert you pay 10X or $20 for the same bottle. it's a rip off but when your kids are thirsty, you will pay.
