Newly Re-built Pro R WRECKS in Winchester Bay, Oregon

- Dear Diary,
Here we are ripping the Oregon dunes for day 2 in Winchester Bay, Oregon.
We start the day with Jonathan, Troy and Jim cruising around Winchester, and enjoying the ocean backdrop, until Jim bends a tie rod and gets taken out of the game.
Christa, mostly, recovers from her poor decisions the night before and jumps in on the afternoon ride with @whiskeythrottlesd, @dirtdudes and @blackoutfireproductions. Everyone is enjoying their ride and the beautiful day, until a dirt bike is doing jumps without a spotter, and Colt, in his newly re-built Pro R, dodges to miss the dirt biker and launches off a sand wall into a witches eye. Everyone was okay, but we slowly learned that more and more was wrong with the front end of the Pro R. Luckily, the @whiskeythrottlesd crew had a @safesled, and were able to get the Pro R back to camp.
This diary entry was a little all over the place with some unanswered questions since the GoPro battery died, and our brains were not fully functioning. As for the machine that rolled, they got it rolled back over, and everyone in the car was OK. Troy, Zack and Jake finally realized we were not behind them and came back, and Jake had a spare that got us back to our trailer.
All in all it was still a fun and memorable day, and no one was hurt, physically.

Winchester bay is my home dunes; and I just transitioned from old school vw sandrails and quads to a 23' X3 XRC and this video has me antsy as all hell waiting for my trip in August!!! Its' crazy but all these youtube UTV channels helped motivate this dream and I can't wait to get out there and rip. Glad you guys' got to experience the place I love so much, and share your experience with us!

Looks like you all had an Outstanding Time!!! The scenery is spectacular! Out of all my years living in the Pacific Northwest I never made it to the Oregon Dunes. A lot of the trails look a little to narrow for the X5 but maybe I'll make a trip up there with the SXS. Great Video! Stay the course, only 275....
Oh, it was an amazing time, and we have so much more coming from all of UTV Takeover, so many great memories. It really is absolutely beautiful, but you’re right, some of those trails through the trees, and branches sticking straight out at you, they’re tight for sure!

Coos bay is massive and fun but Winchester bay has the biggest dunes. Florence is ok for a day or too.

Never hit the dunes without a spare belt on hand. Lesson learned.
The one time we forgot to put it back in Sherb, rookie move.
I live in Reedsport but have never been on the dunes here.

Those are called Razor backs, and that is a small one some can be a 30ft drop into a hole have seen many people get injured and machines broken. Always watch for the drop the sand is very deceiving they look like rollers till you get to the top and it is to late basically straight down into the other wall.
Oh yes, we are very familiar with razorbacks at St. Anthony’s, but unfortunately there was a dirt biker jumping the hill without a spotter, Colt came around and went down to miss the dirt biker. Winchester definitely had a ton small razorbacks that dropped and came out of nowhere.

That’s very true! That makes total sense, because we were thinking Coos doesn’t have the razorbacks like Winchester, but now we are more aware for next time, for sure!
witches eye
At one angle it did look like a razor back. But once you came to the other side it for sure was more of a witches eye.

Oh, for sure, but this definitely could have been avoided by the jumper having a spotter. It’s just being conscious of the safety of everyone out enjoying the sand.

Thank you! Right now, only 2wd, the front dif went out on the canam while we were at Little Sahara in Utah, and we haven’t had time to fix her. Otherwise, in the sand, mostly 4wd.
Hitting a witches eye is a flail.. no matter if there's a dirt bike jumping.
That's just careless. Lesson learned, Always look ahead and when in doubt just stop and let the biker jump Plus duning without a belt is also careless. There's no excuse..

So you're talking about how hung over everyone is and then one of your guys can't see a drop off? Yep blame it on the dirt bike. That sounds like a good plan. Will never watch another one of your posts. Oh yeah, that's my back yard.
He was actually fully sober and didn't drink the night before.
Our group was, yes, but the driver who was avoiding a dirt bike was not. Totally fair though, and we completely understand thinking that’s the case, but it’s not. You have a great backyard, it was awesome, drive safe out there🤘🏽
