“Everyone Fell Out Of Love With Her Pretty Quickly” | Alex Phillips Slams Ex-PM Theresa May

  • The UK needs to remain in the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) as it has shown a willingness to “row back” on international law, Theresa May has said.
The former prime minister had previously expressed frustration with the ECHR and in 2016 suggested the UK should leave the treaty as it could “bind the hands of Parliament”.
Talk’s Alex Phillips discusses this further with former No.10 adviser Tim Montogomerie and political commentator Charlie Rowley.

@@markgregory7140 Her terrible proposed new treaty with EU was an utter betrayal of this country, nothing short of treason. And she lied about its effects. She was also the worst Home Secretary in history up to that point.

@@markgregory7140I think I would like to answer that, May was instrumental in effectively neutering at every turn the wishes of the majority of the British people. We could just for example have played hardball over immigration with France and fishing rights, we failed to do so, we could have insisted on no EU jurisdiction in Northern Ireland but instead we sold them down the line, frankly traitor is the very word I would use.

@@crowdpleaser10 Played hardball how? The Tories (all of them) had no interest in a return clause and they sold farmers and fisherman down the river.

@@markgregory7140 That is precisely the problem, greater independence for the UK would have meant more work for them and more responsibility, that's not what they signed up for, they all want an easy life being told what to do by unelected Brussels Eurocrats.

Tim Montgomerie must be the most optimistic man in history by suggesting the Conservatives could run Labour close in the General Election! There have been too many years of scandal, incompetence and sleaze for that to be ANYWHERE NEAR to being even a remote possibility. Certainly as remote as it is possible to be.
It certainly would be the mother of all political upsets if the Conservatives won or even come remotely close to Labour in the election.

Well it did, they're the ruling party. What your doing is pooling together 'left wing' party votes forgetting there's a reason why people vote for different left or right wing parties. Pooling the vote together in a first past the post system is plain dumb. Even If we had Proportional representational voting it's clear from European elections the right eventually does better than the left when it comes to coalitions, regardless of how effective they actually are in government.
