Hi. You made an error on question 9's reveal; the "real" image is actually the fake.
@@jugularstab It was a long editing day 😅 I also reversed the answers in the trinisphere question. You'll have to forgive me
Guys, looks like your Fblthp answer is wrong. There’s no exiling whatsoever. If he’s targeted, he’s shuffled back in. Not quite sure how you guys managed that one lol.
Paying a spell's costs using delve isn't actually impacted by Trinisphere. Under old rules, delve reduced the cost of the spell for each card you exiled from your graveyard, so you'd exile some number of cards, then Trinisphere's effect would apply and force you to pay three mana for the spell, regardless of how many cards you exiled. This is no longer the case - exiling cards due to the delve ability actually pays for 1 of the spell's mana cost. Therefore, since Trinisphere's effect applies before costs are paid, it doesn't actually do anything anymore.
In the case of Treasure Cruise, it goes like this:
1) You announce that you're casting Treasure Cruise.
2) The cost is calculated by applying any cost reducers or increasers - this is where the old delve rules applied and you'd exile cards to reduce Treasure Cruise's cost.
3) Trinisphere's effect is applied - if the cost of the spell is less than 3 mana, it becomes 3 mana (specifically, 2U).
4) You pay Treasure Cruise's costs, including exiling any cards to the delve ability.
Since Trinisphere's effect is applied before costs are paid, you can end up paying less than three actual mana for Treasure Cruise, but as far as the game is concerned, you paid the full 7U cost. The game doesn't go back to apply Trinisphere's effect, so it doesn't actually affect casting the spell.
There's a MTG Judge blog entry about this interaction.
Yeah I was confused. They even said in the explanation "Since delve no longer reduces the total cost of the spell" so it still costs 2?
So it basically works like convoke, just with exiling graveyard cards and not tapping creatures
so why was the score given to Thoralf? didn't he answer 3 mana? which should be wrong under the new Delve Rules, since it doesn't serve to reduce cost but that exiling cards from the Graveyard only helps to pay the cost.
@@TJ_PH He said two, and Spice said three. The graphic was wrong.
@@TJ_PH because they were wrong
12:44 wow! Those fake and real cards look really similar! (They didn't actually show the real version of fblthp, they just did a little sparkle lol)
thank you for making this post. I thought I was going insane.
They also put the wrong answers for each person on the delve question.
I wad under quite the time constraint to animate that video 😅 you'll have to forgive me
@@rolandrodriguez-colon6108 oh me too I rewatched that animation like four times
"the Weatherlight is fine"
Narrator: "The Weatherlight was not fine. It was in fact being completed as part of the new phyrexian invasion"
Compleated
I mean for whatever measure 'of fine', i suppose it still is?
Doesn't seem like compleated beings somehow feel less fine.
Quite the opposite actually i've been told :D
Thoralf is so blessed to play along side such a spicy person
Great video and I hope there will be more in this series!
On a side note there were a few editing mistakes!
1. Thoralf and Spice's answers were swapped for the Delve question.
2. Fblthp's real card was never shown
3. after showing the Gaea's Cradle price, it swapped to FAKE for a moment
also the S in Mogis God of (s)laughter was lowercase
Thanks for that!
On the trinisphere question, the delve text literally gives the answer, as it's the updated reminder text. It's like an exam: read all you can to make sure!
I was very confused that the video showed their answers swapped and they gave Thoralf the point. The delve pays for all 6 colorless, after Trinisphere verifies that the card has Conv. Mana cost 8.
"Reading the card explains the card!"
@@manweoettam I mean, the question was rules understanding, and the reminder text was visible. Since the reminder text explained the mechanic in clear, unambiguous rules language, then yes, reading the card explains the card. Without reminder text, I would have answered wrong, but it was a freebie
@@ShawnMihalek I was wondering about that! I was so confused when the explanation was for why the answer is 2 and then the point was given for an answer of 3.
@@ShawnMihalek cmc doesn't matter for trinisphere. It cares that mana is paid, and delve and convoke pay mana so they work now. But if you were to cast dismember through trinisphere paying life for the black you would pay 3 generic and 4 life.
Always good to see Spice 8 Rack from CZcams
do a video about how phyrexia is hauntology or something. you can have that one for free. i got a million of em.
The Smothering Tide art had me in stitches. He's so angry, he's like "Arrrgh, why can't I remember where I parked my horse!!?"
Thoralf's father: "I promised I'd name my son after the Norse god of Thunder, but boy do I also love that funny cat eating alien."
For the delve one, just look at delve's wording. As the reminder text says, each card exiled pays for 1 generic mana, it doesn't say that each card exiled reduces the cost.
Reminder text is not rules text.
@@colgatelampinen2501 And as we all know, reminder text lies about how mechanics work because it's not rules text.
702.66a: Delve is a static ability that functions while the spell with delve is on the stack. "Delve" means "For each generic mana in this spell's total cost, you may exile a card from your graveyard rather than pay that mana."
702.66b: The delve ability isn't an additional or alternative cost and applies only after the total cost of the spell with delve is determined.
The reminder text is correct.
Reading the card explains the card
Right. So the trinisphere checks how much mana it costs when you go to cast it, which is 8, so then you pay 6 of it by delving and 2 of it normally. What am I missing?
I was so confused when they revealed the real fblthp and it had the same text 🤣
Lmao yeah there's a few little errors in the video
It was a rough editing day... I also got the answers to the trinisphere question reversed 😅
I had the same reaction upon seeing Sword to Plowshares, immediately shouting "I KNOW THAT ONE!"
If he did the conversion from dollar to pound he was almost there lol
The abacus was the first cool product i was able to buy myself for magic when i was younger and you guys are always clowning on it, its functional, beautiful, and awesome and I will die on this hill

@@CardmarketMagic you can never have too many
The fblthp answer reveal is still showing the fake card with the word REAL on it!
Thank you I thought I was going insane I literally just rewound like 6 times trying to spot the difference.
I made a few animating mistakes I this video due to time constraints. You'll have to forgive me 😅
It was on purpose to get people in the comments.

Engagement! ENGAGEMENT!!!
I stopped playing MTG in 94 (well I'm getting back into it, with 93/94 OS tourneys), and I have no freaking clue about what happened in the game since then, yet I'm still watching this. Thanks for being cheerful and entertaining enough for me to do it. :P
In October we'll have a real OG you might recognize as a guest. Hopefully the questions there will be on subjects you remember from your time with the game :)
@@CardmarketMagic Back then I think every city around the world had their own rules ("Frozen Shade looks like it's flying so it must be" :D). And damn I still remember Black Lotuses (there were 2 of them in my town - one of them being owned by a rich p***, the other one by a bearded 30 years old bro when we were all 14) was worth 800 francs (which was a lot), aka... 130 euros by now?
I regret nothing about bitcoin, but MTG when I was 13...?
Anyways... Even in Oldschool, rules have changed, and we're no longer playing the same game as when we were, as teens, in 93/94. Yet I'm looking forward for that video!
9:40
GENAU!!! Made me laugh
Card market is following the rarran meta and I’m so here for it
For the lore question, Urza's time machine did not explode during a trial, but during a phyrexian invasion of the Academy, during which Karn was sent back in time to stop Kerrik from bringing his army inside the school from the secret passage that young&naive Jhoira showed him.
And is not like Urza has no feelings at all, is just like he'd rather give up to madness than take responsibility for his actions.
"The weatherlight is fine" may be a bit of an overstatement these days.
I appreciate Spice and Thoralf going for the obvious opportunity to put a 69 at the end there. Men of culture.
The Trinisphere question came up in the judge academy (except using convoke instead of delve). Since the specific wording is that the alternate action *pays* for 1, the Trinisphere sees at least 3 mana being spent, whereas if they simply said they reduced the cost (e.g. with Affinity) you would still need to pay 3 actual mana.
The rules text he puts up for delve literally says the opposite of what he awarded. It says "in the past" for the first part where it would cost 3 and then "since delve no longer reduces mana cost" in the second part and continues to say "Trinisphere will be checking to see if the spell is below a cost of 3 mana before you use the delve ability"
No he awarded right, but the graphic was wrong. Thorald said the correct answer 2, but the graphic for 3 was mistakenly by his name.
Yes, we made a few editing mistakes in this one due to them constraints. Thoralf indeed had the right answer here
It might be a bit of a longer form video but I would love to see you guys do sealed set battles. Each player being a particular expansion, would be crazy to see who wants what set.
That's such a fun idea but such a crazy expensive video 😅
@@CardmarketMagic itd be so dope though
6/10 question 8 and 9 were rough.
Maybe i got 7/10, cause i read the trisisphere question and thought 3, but when i read the answer i thought it meant you could pay 2 and exile cards to pay for the other costs and so trinisphere was satisfied. But according to the video it is 3, so i was right, but i still think i was wrong...
You got 7 points in our books ;)
Video is wrong it is two they didn't even read their own text it USED to be 3 that is no longer the case because Delve is no longer seen as Lowering the cost but instead paying the cost. So the cost paid is still 3 or greater so trinity sphere does nothing. There is a judge blog explaining how this works even.
@@zannothefox The writing on Thoralf's board is 2 mana, while Spice8Rack shows 3. The text overlay is incorrect, but they gave the points appropriately. Thoralf was correct; you pay 2 mana from a mana pool, and 6 from Delve exiles on a Conv. Mana Cost 8 card.
@@ShawnMihalek yeah what was said and what was shown where different video showed the 3 cost as correct but said the 2 cost if you listened closely. This is why I said the video was wrong because what they displayed was incorrect.
LMAO "FOUR, YOU FOOL"

Its cool to see the format for magic!
Hey it's you! Thank you for your good work 🙂 we pretty much plagiarized your title and thumbnail style, but for our game
To be fair to spice for the lore one I immediately doubted my original ideas because I thought surely Urza doesn’t feel.
Honestly this made me want to see Spice8Rack on Um, Actually
So, not only did they not correct Fblthp in the video, they have it in the thumbnail. Well done.
Hey we try our best ;)
Always fun to see these. I managed to get 7 out of 9 (discounting last question). I forgot what was in the background of swords and the Jace one I accidentally got locked on the typing as newer planewswalker cards say "Legendary Planeswalker" on newer printings.
Editor made a mistake at 6:18 and was confusing me for a moment. The mixed up the answers to appear above the names.
I really like that format, especially with these awesome guests!!
Spice and Thor are a good duo
I love how Spice automaticlally put "Community College" after Tolarian XD But I hope the Professor is finde after the destruction of it
They stole my Spicy Rack and now I have to see him here.
This is dope, more of these.
(Thought the editing was a bit loose...)
Carl: “you can do pounds or euros”
Spice8Rack: “American dollars” lol
I learned from another video that there is actually a layer in the discounting and taxing costs process dedicated to just trinisphere where all else has to come first so trinisphere always has the final say. Pretty neat.
I really like spices energy great to see him in the videos
I had the exact same reaction to Swords to Plowshares. I was like I know this one!
There was actually a second mistake in the lore text.
The time travel machine thingie didn't explode during Karn's trial run, but during his first actual mission; his trial runs were fine, and he just observed during those.
However, when he was sent back in time to stop K'rrick and his Phyrexian Negators from destroying the Tolarian Academy and killing everyone, he ended up staying too long (and also took K'rrick back with him), thus overheating the machine and causing the explosion and time rifts.
The weatherlight was actually only built years later.
Yes, I'm a fucking nerd.

- smothering tithe has coins on his mouth.
- It was not the weatherlight, it was the tolarian academy.
And I thought fblthp didn't get exiled but shuffled into the library.
The Delve rule is absolutely undisputedly correct. YOU are paying 8 mana. Its just 6 of that mana is paid with a less-usual mana source.
Giving spicy boy the addition of "informative" to his youtuber title is a grave insult and shan't go unpunished.

The graphic for the fblthp question didn't change when it went to real.
Sorry about that 😅 I did not have long to Animate this video before going on vacation. You'll have to forgive me
Wait a second. Thoralf said the answer to Delve + Trinisphere was 3 Mana to cast, but the rules text said exactly the opposite. I found the text they displayed online and the answer should be 2. Delve does not reduce the casting cost, so when casting the Dig through time Trinisphere checks if it costs 3 or less, answer is no, you exile 6 cards to pay for the generic Mana and only have to pay UU and not one generic and two UU. Am I missing something?
6:16 Spice says "3", Thoralf says "2", but for some reason the graphics got swapped, even though the points were awarded correctly.
@DisturbedNeo, you are absolutely right, did not notice that one. :D
I super enjoy this channel. Especially seeing werewolf jon wick call bootleg little finger a fool lol
Fblthp was the same image in both the "fake" and "real" iterations. Had me legit going back and forth to spot the difference. Ended up screen shotting both to compare and still was lost. Thanks, you've turned me into the little Homunculus because I'm lost. What's the color of the sky again?

Spawn of Possession is such a good band!
One of my favorites.
I wouldn't say they are from the 90's though. Technically they formed in 97, buy they didn't put out a demo before 2000 and their debut in 2003. Much more of a 00's band to me.

1:30 Before we start, I thought it was just going to be about cards. If we're getting into Lore or obscure Rule twists, I might be a bit more out of my depth.
4:30 Dang it! I had the wrong Jace. I thought for sure that 0: was supposed to make someone mill 10.
13:00 Wait, I thought that was wrong so I went to look it up. Fblthp does shuffle itself back into its owner's library.
I'm giving myself credit for 5, so not bad.
Fiblthp does shuffle itself, we made a mistake in the animation 😉
The answer is wrong for Trinisphere + Delve.
Exiling the card pays for the colorless in the same way that krrik does. You only have to pay UU for Dig Through Time through a trinisphere because the colorless mana is paid for by the exiled card.
Before Khans and the rules change on Delve you would have had to pay generic mana on top of it, but as it currently stands you do not have to pay the additional mana, exiling the card is paying mana.
That's exactly the answer the video gives...
i got super confused when fblthp the lost flashed to show the real one but it didn't changed so i thought it was a ruse. xD
Looking at the original smothering tithe again I noticed that they changed the text on the new one. It no longer says colorless and also they but what treasure does in brackets

Spice was way closer in $ which is hella amusing to me
Love you guys!
i had a really weird issue with a void winnower on board and a blasphemous act in hand but the judge said i was allowed to play the blas act so thats how I guessed the delve one.
You can blasphemous act into a void winnower because cost reduction doesn't affect cmc. If there's 1 creature on the board, blasphemous act still has a cmc of 9, even though you're paying 8 mana.
Dig through time costs 2 mana because Delve isn't cost reduction. Trinisphere applies after all cost reductions, so for example, blasphemous act will cost 3, even with 8 creatures. Delve isn't cost reduction, it exiles cards to pay for the cost, so when Trinisphere checks the cost, it's still 6UU. You're just not using mana for the 6 generic mana.
Does Thoralf give coachings ? would love to get teached MTG by this legend.
Would you seriously like us to ask him? He is actually an incredible player!
