- Time to mix up & pour some 16lb density 2-part urethane foam from US Composites. This stuff is crazy strong. It's description on the website is "This 16LB density foam is essentially as hard as a rock, you would need a hammer in order to make any dents in this product." In my opinion its just as strong if not stronger than concrete and at a small fraction of the weight. Its working perfect to add strength while filling in all the voids inside #projectSPL. Check it out for yourself at www.uscomposite...

Mixing & pouring adding every lil bit of strength I can to this shell. Let me know what you think of this 2-part foam. Is this something you might use in a build sometime?
Yessir
A small sample pour will be sweet for the fan base. U.S.composites dot com for the win!!! EVERYTHING fiberglass related in my possession, ALL came from US composites. Everything covers the past 10 years doin glass work. They are my goto 100%!!!
Sundown Audio unofficial this build can get you 100k Subscribers Fast Road to 100k
Is the foam strong enough to push the windows out? Or did you do something to keep the windows in place?
They make a knife that cuts that foam like butter. We use it a little in commercial roofing. It’s designed to cut away the excess foam and smooth edges where it seeps out. Just a tip. Cool build. Can’t wait to see it finished. 💪👍
A dirty shop is a workin mans shop. If you aint makin a mess you aint workin hard enough. Great vid too. Lovin the updates and cant wait to see it in Kentucky.
i cant be the only one that really wanted him to open the door lol
They won't open, they're closed for good.
@@cavybass ik, but it was just a random urge
people saying your shop is dirty must have never been in a working environment that has multiple projects working around the same time. keep up the good work love the channel 🤙🏼👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I think your shop is neater than the inside of my truck 90% of the time lol! You don't need to waste your time justifying your clean work to doubters!
damn, you've done more work on that truck than doug can build in 2 seasons XD
so true lol
It doesn’t matter what you did Doug
😂😂😂
Lol
Doug spends most of his time perfecting his jokes. That's why they are so good. ;)
Can't wait to see this beast finished!!!
And a quick mix shot would be awesome
A messy shop build the nicest build.
A messy show says alot, business wise. Ive gone into alot of shops that were quite clean yet the shop dont do much business. think about it takes alot of time to make a shop spotless. If shops busy then they dont have time to clean up. cleaning a shop dont make money working on cars makes the money, yes no shop has to be insanely clean but also no busy shop isnt messy to a point. every shop ive been in that actually is busy looks just like this one if not a little worse.
Yes sir you did some great clean work on the van.
you do great work like the way the install looks on that black van.....if there is no mess then you are not working hard enough.....great video love the build progress
I would like to see the foam poured between two pieces of plexiglass that has a wood frame on the sides and bottom. That way we can see what the foam is doing and how much expansion it has. As far as the shop don't worry about it, haters gonna hate because that's all they have. You can clearly do clean builds. The Express proves that. I for one would like to see etched plexiglass somewhere in the back. Keep up the great work.
I sat in that van at Slamology. I am a Sundown nuthugger.
Awesome to see the entire build. Love watching vids like this.
The reason the shop is dirty is because u guys do so much work
THE S.P.L. BUILD IS GOING TO BE AWESOME WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED , I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE FINISHED S.P.L. BUILD SERIOUSLY.
I am loving your videos Sir and ooooh weeee, when you showed your van...WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliant work Sir, keep up the GREAT work!!! I cannot wait to see Project SPL when it is done.
Awesome, I like seeing the time lapse incorporated, thank you for taking our comments and throwing them into your videos
That delta t is quite amazing. Wish you'd get back to daily uploads!
So glad to see such awesome great progress being done on the buildup
I love watching these. Look forward to the new ones.
Hell yeah! Congratulations on reaching the 12K subscriber mark Derrick. I think a plexiglas top cover with an etched Sundown Audio Logo with led lights would be awesome for the cap bank. That foam is awesome! Thanks for the time lapse video pouring it in the holes. It's not much to some people but I thought it was cool. Cannot wait until the next update. Keep up the great work and look forward to the next update video.
Your shop is clean , especially for the amount of work being done ,people with super clean garages usually don’t do much work , screw the haters👍🏻
Keep up the great work and the shop it looks busy :). Ive seen your work in person - looks clean to me. That's some serious foam!
Say bro if the shop ain't dirty it ain't being used and as long as u understand and know how to manage the madness that's all that matters keep the videos coming bro I love the indepth details u are showing us can't wait for the next one
Don’t worry about haters. You’re doing a great job! Keep at it and can’t wait to see the finished product!!
Dude this is gonna be an insane build. Awesome work so far!
Good video a little bit of everything 👍
Hella video Sir. @0:43 Your BOX is showing!
With that foam setting up so fast aren't you afraid of having voids in there?
something i learned when i was younger, a spotless shop is just that = no work gets done, all the time is spent cleaning. a filthy shop = no work gets done as they can't find the things they need for work. a cluttered shop = work getting done.
what i saw is some clutter.
like going to a mechanic and he's got no dirt under his nails and his clothes are clean, i ain't letting him work on my car as it will never get done.
KEEP UP THE AWESSOME WORK IT'S CLEAN TO ME.
I appreciate the upload & I Love the build videos, it’s always nice learning new things to help better yourself when it comes to your builds by watching other people with more knowledge and experience. So thank you.
Man don't worry about the youtube haters. Do you Derrick and record for the ones that actually are going to do builds and wanna do car audio the right way.
Add kicken' work!!!!!
Hey man. Don't listen to haters, probably living in their parents basement with their civics and 2 8in woofers, thinking they the man. I love how this build is coming along. And can't wait to see the end result. Everyone has their own ideas. Stick with what you want!
Can’t wait to see it in action cool! 👍🏻👌
Good Work ✌
Looking good man!!!! I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!
Lighted plexi has my vote
I think u can do clean work the van looks good faint wait to see the blazer when its done 👍😎
JEREMY LEE KOONCE HERE, I BELIEVE IT'S REALLY CLEAN BROTHER.
God damn man got enough foam lol, keep going im here for the actual build of the system not the wheels or anything, im loving the path your taking so far, Ill say it for ya man you hungry for 170+ db. other then the rims that would look crazy if u replaced the tint with mirror tint or chrome tint which ever the tints called. I had to actually drop my amp off at my buddies to get repaired i finally after all this time fell into amp vibration, one of my coils vibrated loose lol has to be glued back down already done gona be picking it back up this weekend. got some nice anti vibration padding coming in the mail as well. cant wait til you start installing the actual audio equipment thats what im looking forward to. not sure if you already have the stuff but if you do could you give us a little teaser of the stuff? Ive got a feeling this build when all said and done is gona make me hit the sub button lol. Takes a different kinda build then what everyone else is doing to catch my interest, so far youve got my attention on this one.
Looks great, who cares what it looks like all about sound. Cant wait for the next video keep up the good work.
Let’s see there shop that they prob don’t even have !! Bunch of D-bags great work bro keep up the good work
From what you did. no glass should break.. But did you use any foam in that Van build? I hope one day I will demo your builds. top knotch builds bro!
Looking good
Looks clean to me
Definitely do a lighted plexiglass trim panel with the Sundown Audio logo etched in it.
To me who cares how the shop looks. Clean work is what matters.
That thing will have to be hauled everywhere
Yes it will be a trailer queen
Etched plexiglass over the Caps would be super dope
Make a "mold" of that mixing bucket (i guess it wont stick to the plastic bucket?) and make a sub box out of that foam. That would be a strength test :D
Great vid..keep up the good work..foam mids and highs mod..what u think
Shit looks good for a shop I have seen much worse. Not to mention if it was me i be doing that out in the yard.
Let's see dave build something! Nice video though
So you cut the wells out the back.. are you putting a lift on the truck?
Yeah lighted plexiglass would be badass
At least ya got a shop my 30 by 24 is still on the ground in a kit.lol
That suckers gonna be vibration free hell yeah
dont worry so much about the time lapses, people DO like them, we expect to see things like that if we click on videos about any projects, when the upload is 10+ minutes, it gives the illusion of a story moving forward, a talking shot can really only hold peoples attention for a couple minutes, do variations during the video to keep the pace of the video up...good work though, and i appreciate the content! always liked, and watched to the end!
Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to balance the different things viewers want to see between the in-depth explanations, time lapse, & live build action. It's a delicate balance to keep all the viewers happy.
@@UnofficialAudio Thanks for the reply!
It's clean Derrick 🤣
Where the foam ate the paint on the inside the side windows. Instead of spray painting the outside like the black van. Wrap the entire blazer windows and it will look great. But that's just my opinion.
got some room to play with now
Make a small brick of the foam an a small brick of fiberglass apoxy an take to a shop that has one of those hydrostatic presses that tells lbs pressure an see what the busting pressure is of each.
Yes it's foam well done god do you think we are thick or somthing
YES THAT'S A GREAT IDEAL WITH THE LED LIGHT'S
😆 I just came out of the store with a can of spray foam in my hand and go to this LOL.
So ill just wait and Viynal outer window after lol glad to know that
Nice 👍🏼
Don’t get stressed out at some people’s negativity and jealous comments, We can see y’all have a nice shop that is big and clean and particle.
Also no one can or will be able please everyone in this world, but I would like to say, keep up the great work and the video’s, so many people including me are enjoying this SPL build, so again don’t let their negativity transfer to you, Remember this,
“If It’s not fun, why do we do it”
🧐🤗
So get some rest, peace, and some sleep my fellow custom car audio installer/fabrication guru 😎
Derek I know this is an old video but I have a question does that phone actually expand or does it harden the same size ?
The foam works very fast wow, yo but the plexiglass etched idea sounds cool. A floating amp rack would be cool. The damn haters always got something to say, shop ain't clean enough really? Smh... Anyways keep it coming looking good so far and you gave me a demo in that van and sandbagged on me a little lol 😁👍😉 can't wait to hear the spl build though. ✌
"i predrilled these holes from the inside before the box"
has 2 bits that look like they were just used in the frame
400iq play xD just thought it was funny. Love the vid
Because I did just use them. I picked a good spot from the inside, predrilled the holes, then enlarged from the outside. Theres no conspiracy on how I drilled the holes.
I know i'm beating a dead horse a year late here but...if you do this again use acetone to was funnels and mixing equipment within a 3 minute window of pouring and everything will stay clean. I used to spray that material with a gun for a living. Acetone is your friend...and WD40 is the only thing we found that it wont adhere to if you wanted to lubricate areas for removal of foam.
CZcams told me Steve Meade watched this so I had too!
Messy shop? U should see mine lol 🤣
You should take some advise from EXO build !! Don’t get me wrong this is a bad ass build 👍👍
What kind of advice do I need? I love watching EXO's vids but last I saw he hadn't even started his new build yet.
Very nice , how are you gone close the holes
Keep up the good work bro , don't let the haters pull ya down,I'm not gonna let em anymore.lol
Going to use that foam it looks strong way better than great stuff
Is it strictly for comp or are you going to do both comp and side demos. If for comp I wouldn't worry about looks too just I would have the best air flow for the amps but if for comp/demo and shows I would do a elegant etched plexi over the caps and flip the amps and light the guts of the amp with etched plexi. Good looking work by the way
It's just and spl build. Burp truck. Tuned high and not musical at all. And not enough electrical for more than a few seconds at a time.
It's primary purpose will be spl but I'll also use it in Bass Race for 30sec on music at a time. If someone really wants I'll hand out some demos with it.
👍👍👍
How many times do you pour that foam in your doors One two times
why dont you pour foam into the front doors as well before skining them with sound deadener
Now Derrick, you know that you're going to short yourself at least 2-3 dB with the shop being so dirty SMH lol
Plexi amps and cap covers
Looks like a good build so far, but wow what's with the ugly wagon wheels?
You doin good..fuk da haterz👊💥😎
How are you going to fix the drill holes?
The foam gets trimmed flush maybe a lil body filler if he gives a shit or not then maybe he might rattle can paint it???
JB weld??? Then filler.
Weld then make it flat. Last but not the least sand, prime, and paint.
Where to get your product?????? I live in Spokane WA and the closest to me is a guy in British Columbia Canada and the shipping is just stupid, I have a restoration project that I'm looking to put 24 to 32 ----8's in and the only company that has talked back to me is CT Sounds great company IMO, But looking for some Power here. Can you guys help??????????????????
Is there any science to how much strength you need to resist the pressure of speakers?
How many miles does the jeep have now? My buddy is the one who traded it to jake.
The Jeep hardly ever gets driven. Its sits in the shop as a test vehicle.
So not going to be able to open up the back? you got wire ran yet?
The back doors cant open. The rear tailgate can. Any wire will run underneath the truck.
Are you allowed to weld the rear doors shut?
Yes they can be sealed up
Whats the box size?
I dont unerstand pouring when we have machines that spray it
Did you bolt the rear doors closed?
No they're basically glued shut
Damn u could line a sub box with that shit lol
Yes you do go work fu$$ the haters
How do you keep the foam from expanding too much and breaking your window??
Pour it in small batches
The foam has a low expansion rate around 4x i believe so if you go slow it's easy to not over fill. As long as it has a place to expand into it will follow the path of least resistance.
