My friends, this is the WORST review I’ve ever done. No excuses. It’s on me.
There are much better reviews and helpful tips on CZcams available.
I’m very critical of what I produce. I could’ve done much better and dove much deeper into this transceiver.
It does so much and so much of it really good.
You have my sincere apologies. There are many other much better reviews on this transceiver on CZcams.
    Again, my apologies,
    Larry

Good stuff! Thanks so much for providing some great insights into the 991a, and the Ray Charles outro brought a tear to my eyes.. god bless from WW3DX

I have learned so much from you and others about the Yaesu radios. As a newby, I had my sights on an IC-7300, but have evolved with my radio learning to be a quality signal gatherer first. I now own a FT-DX10 and a 991A. I will eventually upgrade to my dream radio FT-DX101MP and will give the FT-DX10 to my son. Keep up the teaching!

It is nice that you play these kind of songs at the end of a broadcast. Just don't see it much, back home when I was younger and not in Florida

Larry - This is a very good video, sir. I just bought a brand new FT-991A about three weeks ago and I am really taking my time reading the operating book to make sure I understand all the functions as best as possible. I did a lot research on so many brands, models and features on so many radios but I had to narrow it down to the FT-991A. History, reputation and features of this radio made me make this decision and I love everything about it. I am currently building my station. I just became a (Technician) and got my license about 2 months ago. Some might believe that I went far out by purchasing this unit as my first radio but for myself I am glad that I did this because I wanted something that will cover almost all of the bands and get many years of service out of a radio as I advance through higher classes.
I wanted to ask you that in this video, at 22:40 you mentioned the max UHF power is 35 watts. I am looking at the item # 140 in the menu on page 127 and it says 5 - 50 watts and the default is 50 watts. Do you know if it is 35 or 50 watts?
Also - Love the last part of your video, the KHJ-TV Channel 9 LA footage. That is an amazing footage looks like from late 70's or early 80's. It is where I grew up and lived in North Hollywood, CA at that time when I was kid. It almost looks like the Santa Barbara coastal area. I left Cali back in 2003 and now living in AZ for 18 years. Also prayers go out to your brother to gain his strength back and to feel better.
73 to you and God bless!

N4RLD had a hard time hearing you at first. I saw your PO meter and you were only peaking at 25/30 watts or so. I have had the same issue with my FT-991A when I use the internal tuner. It's finicky at times. I do love my FT-991A though and have a lot more experience on it in HF and less on VHF/UHF. I live in a small town where we don't have much going on the local repeaters much of the time. I do talk to a couple of local hams in C4FM simplex. It really works nicely in digital FM too. Thanks for explaining the parametric equalizer settings in depth. Great 2 videos. Thanks and 73. K5MGK in Silver City, NM.

Jody, that’s a dynamite combination. Excellent Vertical and Antenna had an excellent and well optioned rig.
When you pair it with a Great Antenna like yours, it’s going to make amazing calls. I was really shocked at how good the “HF side” of the rig is. I think it’s the best buy for the money out there, even over the 7300 because for only $200 more, you get VHF and UHF plus C4FM and Wires X.
What’s not to like about that?
Take care and I hope to meet you live on a live stream soon. All of my shows are cut live. That way people that watch from around the world can take part in the show and be a big part of it.
      Nice to meet you mate,
      Larry

    Hi Larry,
I think it was a very good all round review.
There are many boring videos on youtube, yours is certainly not.
    Thanks for the review.
I just ordered a ft-991a. It will arrive to me on Friday.
    Take care.

I'm sure this is a very nice radio from all the reviews I've seen......But, there are lots of radios in this price range that have great audio without Parametric EQ. So, why doesn't Yaesu think it's audio isn't good enough to where this radio needs a Parametric EQ.
    Just curious.

Louis, thank you. I’m actually very disappointed in how this worked out. It’s nice to hear some good feedback. Personally, I wish I would’ve covered it better. Live shows can be that way sometimes… You’re doing it live with no editing. You get what you get. But I think I could’ve covered the rig better.
Congratulations on getting the General ticket! I’m really proud of you mate.

@@HamRadioLiveShow i have seen a lot of reviews, nothing with that devree of detail. Enough for a newbie to get started AND then some!
The CZcams buffering is a CZcams issue, nothing to do with you ot your connection. Got 2 ISPs, 1 gig fiber and it buffers, yet none of my other streaming services do it. That is how I rule out my internet connection as being the problem. The only thing that buffers here regularly is CZcams. Have no clue why, but it’s not like I can make a call to troubleshoot. I do however report using the link on each video.

    • @HamRadioLiveShow
      @HamRadioLiveShow  Před 2 lety

Thanks Louis, we’re going to bump up to one gig Internet speed here next week. That’s the last thing I can do. Anything beyond that and it Hass to be on CZcamss end. I’m truly hopeful it makes all the difference in the world.
Thanks for your kind words. I do really appreciate it sincerely. I kick myself for the mistakes I make. But no one‘s perfect. All you can do is the best you can. Thank you for the encouragement.
Congratulations again on passing your general! My friend, I am really so HAPPY and proud of you.

@@HamRadioLiveShow Larry..... I disagree. Yr video is excellent. No if''s or but's. Especially since you did this live. PLEASE do not be too critical of yourself. Trust me.. i've seen life streams so bad i switched 'em of after less that a minute. You did a sterling job and should be PROUD of what you did.
