Thank you so much - that was a real treat - one of my favourite places. I walked from Swanage back to Corfe Castle across those hills with the girl guides, and have never forgotten it. Then, I seem to remember going back to Poole by train, so must have been before 1963.

I was shelling peas today and two of the pods had peas that were shooting! So I’ve put them in soil in seed trays and put them near the wind just to see what happens.
I reckon they'll grow!
I feel your pain Geoff, it's been a long wet winter. All we can do is keep the animals fit and take small pleasures in the signs of spring.

Hey Geoff. Thank you for this very enjoyable update, taking in a few of your enterprises. You certainly have had some rain, as have we but even we are not suffering as you are. Our soils range from heavy clay to moorland peat. Yes the weather is holding you up and you are having to buy a lot of straw. Hopefully your area will dry up and warm up. We feel for youbanfd your flooded out friends.

Sorry you are suffering from the past rain so much at your farm. It is set to be drier for the next week or two so hopefully that will help you. Really impressed with your polytunnel contents. At the allotment today here in Hampshire it was very soggy too and hoeing was hard work through the mud. Hopefully it will all drain down and do our spring plantings some good when its dry enough to get things in. Good luck with the imminent new life. 😊

OMG the ruddy rain! It's 343 am. It's lashing here in Northern Ireland while I'm watching this lol. I'm thinking the same thing about standing water... IT'S EVERYWHERE! I need a poly tunnel too but I've not lived on the land during rainy season so if I'd built it it might have also needed moved (like my dog run which storm Isha dropped 2 trees on also) I'm ready for a bit drier weather too
Yes - definitely good to see how the land responds to different weathers' before building. There's certainly things I'd put in different places now I understand the exposure of this site more. Fingers crossed for drier weather!
I very much tried to wait until I'd experienced the 4 seasons before building but I needed a dog run and chicken coop. Rethinking the polytunnel as the wind in the original place might be too bad. I've been here almost a 11 months already😲
Your soils need more drainage in the form of rotting leaves, even shredded cardboard.
I would recommend coco coir, but it's another cost you don't need right now.
Short of these ideas, using a long timed fork to penetrate the top soil levels may help drainage.
Look into using permaculture techniques, Geoff Lawton has taught thousands of people, he's got his own CZcams channel.
Geoff Lawton's channel is great. The problem is ... ALL my soil is like this. It's Suffolk clay and it's been worked for decades to within an inch of it's life so it's going to take a long time to come back, sadly. The no dig IS helping; it's adding new material on top of the clay as well as organic matter but also with so much rain, even that has just all mushed into one now.
