The higher level of unemployment is one of the reasons. Also, we as South Africans also go through so much to work in other countries. Sometimes, we have to do extremely difficult courses and very expensive. I guess, going to work in a foreign country is always frustrating.

Bullocks! I have skilled and experienced locals seating without a job. A ton of young graduates as well. Even abroad, they are not willy nilly prioritizing foreigners over locals. Only critical skills are sought after. This disrespect display towards Ministers subjecting them to ridiculous interviews to explain himself does not happen in any country abroad. You wait even over a year if need be, they ain't begging or care about your urgency. I am waiting for a renewal work permit in Poland for 8 months and my temporary residency permit card has just been issued 3 days ago after one year and two months. Commissioner of oaths which they call (Notarized) by a lawyer mind you, no police station stamp is recognized. My daughter passed away vin Sweden in July. Guess what! they use the Post office to communicate. I left the country still haven't made much progress. This is supposedly the best in Europe. Laughable about zhenophpbia, go to Europe, it's not spoken but systematic. Let them leave to go in the longer ques but not complain. Mr! you are just disrespectful cause Minister is Black. Stupid stamp? WOW! He'll yes! Make it as difficult as possible. Stop letting these self entitled people degrade you. SA is playground for Criminal syndicates living posh in Camps Bay etc because of the lineancy they don't have the luxury of in Europe.

LOL Cape Town is full of Germans and other Europeans. Franschhoek is like a "swallows" town in the summer. The fact is the quality of life you can afford earning in foreign currency is way better than living in Europe. South Africans living in the UK and Canada generally agree that you take a standard of living downgrade moving - from house to apartment, no domestic worker anymore, eating out less and less free things to do outdoors. I live in Finland but I definitely miss home and when I go, I go with European friends, once they visit once, they keep coming back - its just bang for buck. Your concerns are real though - we've let crime and corruption get out of control and we have to reel it in while we still can, the other grievances though you bring up are personal.

Yep, the 1st sign that a country is failing is when the young graduates and other highly qualified people leave their country to pursue a career in a healthier environment.
Other indicators are personal wealth flowing out of the country, disinvestment together with foreign investment slowing down.
Our government lacks much intellect so only lives for the day so they aren't really concerned with the knock on consequences of highly qualified people emegrating.
Note ... This group when leaving the country directly reduces the revenue that state coffers so desperately needs to provide social welfare for those with no skills, unemployed and elderly .
Possibly, many if they did not leave would start businesses providing much employment for the people.
Sadly, this fact is inconsequential to the state as they are disadvantaged by their lack of vision and intellect.

At one stage we were 1/4 of an Australia (roughly speaking). Last time I checked, we'd become 1/5 of an Australia, and my wild guess is that we're on our way to becoming 1/6 of an Australia, now.
And then you look at how Australia has so far exceeded us (when you'd expect the two countries to be approximately at the same level, given things like resources, at least). My next wild guess is that they've managed what they have by attracting the right kind of foreign migrants (whose education and training over decades was paid for by someone else - like South Africa, for instance).
And then if I'm right, it would be obvious that the way we turn around and start heading toward becoming 1/4 of an Australia again would be to do the things that they do, that work. Become a great place to emigrate to. Become a great place to retire to, even. Become a great place to live a "swallow's life", arriving in Spring; flying North in Autumn.
It might be more difficult to do this, but I think we can even turn what's now illegal unskilled migration from a cost into a benefit. (Maybe by buying off potential protestors against it, somehow?)
Australia is recruiting people with the right kinds of certificates, to a large extent, and a certificate is not the only measure of someone's potential.
By comparison, we receive Africans whose families have decided that the migrant going to South Africa is the brightest and the best in their family. (Not always, but a lot of migration is about family survival, rather than about more individual career development, etc.) This is just an impression, but I've met a lot of real "go-getters" from "up North", here. My guess that their "family recruitment processes" are working quite well. We receive a significant proportion of other Africans who just need a bit of space to make things happen in one way or another - whether that's by putting in a good days work, or by developing something you need a more advanced economy's support to develop.
    OK, so how?
My best idea so far is to have "enclave cities" near the ports (or near new ports we might develop if this works well). Have "migrant-friendly" conditions within these. Also have manufacturer-friendly conditions for what one would hope would be export industries based on the labour available in such migrant-friendly zones. And then actively recruit. Instead of waiting at the barbed wire with guns and police vans to catch illegals, give them a direct path to a job in a "free zone" (just thought of something that might bear comparison).
Keep the rest of South Africa for the more xenophobic South Africans ( but develop new "migrant centres" if this turns out to be a good idea.)
Probably the one concern that nobody seems to have, but would have more reason to be concerned with, would be that of migrants becoming citizens in time, and getting enough of the vote to influence future SA politics.
I'll just pretend that the idea is so great that it's just guaranteed to be successful for a minute, now and consider how we might extend it. If we manage to become the top employer of Africa's brightest and best (with the ultra-brightest and uber-best becoming part of the wider economy - full citizens, as they reach the kinds of skill levels an Australia would accept, maybe - and only the "unskilled" being restricted to special zones, we might become a pretty successful country.
But the extension? We could reach out to the Carribean, maybe? And to the oil-free parts of the Middle East. And, for a while, Dalit India, even. There's no need to keep it Africa- exclusive. (The political risks are best mitigated by maximal diversity.)
Hey, we could accommodate the political migrants of the EU? This is a safe haven. If we build up a job market like that, we could offer to accommodate asylum seekers other countries are struggling to accommodate.
The thing to think about, as far as this last idea goes, is a better version of it, rather than just a way to say no to it. It might be a bad idea, as is, but if you stop at just showing it up as that, you've only done half the thinking you need to do. If it's a bad idea, fix it. Come up with something that accommodates migrants instead of spending money on resisting them (while going down, down, down, in this spiral we're in) that makes sense. Come up with a better idea, not just a stupid "refutation" that stops short.

Do you know wena Sir, you are South African, aren't you?; Don't we have people in this country who can be trained for these skills you are talking about? Don't we have goverment to talk to for unemployed South Africans to be trained? Charity begins at home. Take your own South Africans to school they are roaming around in townships, intelligent folks , period. Stop xenophobic narrative please Sir.✌️

With high unemployment of skilled workers, if we upskilled those who left, why not up skill the unemployed?, unless with so called skilled we means specific race, not considering millions black South Africans asking for opportunities to prove and improve themselves. Most of us we are sitting at home as we speak asking for opportunities with 14years experience in labor market, but South Africa have shortage of workers, that is so upsetting😢

Skilled PEOPLE are also needed to give SouthAfricans knowledge of what they are not able to do .South Africa economy is short of Skills , Engineering etc.for this are not advanced. OFCOURSE there is not trust anymore .The SouthAfricans are they themselves hanging around no job..Maybe when they share the Skills can be a good sign to economy. Who is bringing Skills in the country with lot of criminality?.Not Motsoaledi is at fault the law shows him how to work with the Permits in this country. He is doing what the Rules of of the Home Affair laws. is telling him to do.Lot of criminality not trust of anyone anymore. Most of the investors want to bring their own employees. Who have experience of the certain Skills.mmmmmm .How did SouthAfrica do those years when Ford ,Volkswagen General Motors etc that time were jobs for SouthAfricans too..
