It Made Us Uncomfortable! Van Life Winter Upgrades Begin

- Winter is here, which means UPGRADES and this year we've travelled lots which has highlighted things we need to fix or desperately change. One thing really does cause discomfort, a real pain in the rear.
Our passenger seats are ace, they are also very comfortable - this is great. Our drivers seat on the other hand is not, it actually is pretty uncomfortable over longer distances. So it had to be upgraded and we wanted one with an arm rest, plenty of adjustability and preferably heated. The quest began and we got it fitted up to our Mercedes Vario van conversion.
The van build continues with a neat upgrade to the charging situation to our seat box, and we find yet another way to automate our diesel heater (which was weirdly driven by a leak). But that's van life, you gotta take your lemons and make lemonade.
We also find a few other things wrong this week and fix those, plus give an update on our winter upgrades - any thoughts on how we can do these please pop a comment down below.

We have had our heater on round the clock the last few days. It's a bit warmer here tonight, so we've turned it off, but we've just had it on low overnight, and it's kept Mavis warm😊.

Brilliant. Gathering the bits for the EGR install. We will need to rig it up in test first I think. Will keep you posted. The pump is on its way and potentially a new style intake too.

Your diesel heater was probably thirst because it was leaking and was leaking worse when it was running so hopefully you will find it more economical now 🤞🏻

When we bought the bus the owner said that’s what he’d do regarding the doors. We’ve come up with a bit more of an unusual idea. Will keep you posted.

Clever guy 🎉 My heater can be thirsty, I've recently blocked off the cab tho and found it gets from 0° - 20° in 30 mins instead of 2 hours, was shocked at the difference lol
That’s really interesting to know. One of the updates we are considering was a basic curtain for the ‘cab’ area. Sounds like it might be worth trying. Thanks Rob 😊

So £30 for materials…. So you expect a fabricator to make it for less than £70+ 😂 get a grip mate. That’s not expensive.
It's a good point, however for that price i'd expect it not to have a disclaimer saying it might be out of tolerance when they're using a laser cutter and i've given them everything they need to run that in the machine. That put me off to be honest. I am sure it's an industry standard, but it made me want to do it myself.
Also I am probably tight, make it yourself if you can and save some cash is the message. So I am glad I have. Alls well that ends well. Thanks for calling it out.
