No matter how good and how experienced the drivers are, these cars on these roads with so much variability in grip levels with a circuit on tight roads with almost no room for error are already a challenge even under perfect conditions. A safety car start is the only rational choice that can be made when it's rainy. The race director made the right call here

I like how the race director implements the yellow flag in Formula E, by getting on the radio and sending a message directly to all teams, giving them a 5 sec countdown by the end of which everyone has to be going at a constant speed limit. Safe, efficient and roughly maintains the intervals between the cars. Wish they did the same in F1, instead of implementing them in such a way that everyone gets bunched up and gets new tyres for free, which basically completely resets and restarts the race.
WOWZER! What a race!!! Whish it had gone all the way.. but still.. I am glad as heck they have started to show all the races on you tube.. my thanks to you guys! I am so appreciative of your efforts....

As they were saying around the 36 minute mark, in my opinion, these cars look like APCs in comparison to F1 cars. They are insanely tough.

That’s such a bummer way to end the race. All cars had well over 10% battery left (Günter lowest at 12%). What if the rules change so that there’s an extra lap or two based on lowest battery at the moment of the crash?
I.e. when yellow flag came out, the lowest battery was at 13%, that’s typically sufficient for 2 laps (after safety car goes back in) - based on some equation - so the race extends for that many laps.
It’s just such a downer when the race ends like that. There’s gotta be a different way.
I don’t know. Maybe add a spare battery to the cars that lasts 2 laps just for this situation? It could even have a switch that cars need to d drive to the pit stop to activate. I don’t know.
Since posting this comment, I’ve seen more races closely and noticed that energy “automatically” drops when safety cars. Don’t know the reasoning for that, but with that in mind, I realize my comment makes no sense.

I love Formula E. I would love it more if it raced on real racing circuits as I don't like street circuits much.
Maybe someone will do another electric racing series that does permanent circuits. I like how the street circuits are easy to get to.
@@herdivineshadow Good point. Sweeping turns are more challenging then 90 degree static corners IMHO. More run-off.

I think they need a "penalty" zone. Rather then penalties like 5 seconds or a pit stop. Make them race with reduced energy for x number of minutes depending on the grade of penalty.
