Death got me into Death metal, but then I realised there no such classic or technical death metal like Death and I was dissapointed. But I listened to the Immolation. It is not as Chuck's shredding but what it does has that atmosphere and technicallity that lacks in many bands like Benediction or whatever (no offence, but especially the first albums at least). So Immolation is my number 2 Death Metal band.
And one more flawless bands alongside with Opeth, NIle, Death. No bad albums. I do not rank them, like Death albums - just pick, listen, just love it.
One of the greatest. I feel is a band so unique that put in shame a lot of death metal bands. The tribal drum sound, the dissonant riffing, the ultra deep and dark Ross Dolan vocals. I love it.
10-kindom of conspiracy
9-Shadow in the light
8-Harressing ruin
7-Atonement
6-majesty and decay
5-dawn of possession
4-failures of gods
3-unholy cult
2-Here in after
1-Close the fucking World below(the BEST fucking Death metal album in The Planet!!)
is it unusual to say that they're probably my favourite band?
Not unusual at all they’re great
@@Questformetal never came across someone ranking them that high. I see them in top 15 lists, top 10, sometimes top 5 (death metal bands) but someone saying that they're a favourite hasn't been spotted by me yet.
Also, thanks for the ranking. Been waiting for it for a while.
They are the BEST death metal band in The world
Hell. No. Immolation is one of the most consistent, strongest, and best death metal band from the 90s still kicking ass today. They are definitely one of my absolute favorites along with Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus.
IMMOLATION RULES!!! they are my favorite Death Metal band and I appreciate you covering them 🤘💀🤘👍HAILS!!!
Closer to the world below was my intro to the band. That tour with Incantation and Goatwhore was a killer lineup. The new record is sick but I can't put it at 1 just for sentimental reasons.
Hi Questy! Not for this topic, but now i'm listening 1st time Swallow the Sun. OMf@@@ingG! Awesome music, now i'm ordered the StS t shirt! Thank you for the music!!!!!!
I saw them LIVE LAST MONTH!
I walked into the show expecting Dawn of Possession from years of stereo play...
and I got ATONEMENT which live is so crispy clear, loud, and Robert Vigna was casting a spell with his guitar ~
I saw them live last year
Great video as always 🤘🤘
There are 3 albums I still need to hear by these guys but I already consider them one of my favourite Death Metal bands just based on the rest. Ridiculously hard and almost painful to rank these but here goes nothing:
1. Unholy Cult
2. Close to a World Below
3. Here in After
4. Failures for Gods
5. Dawn of Possession
6. Majesty and Decay
7. Atonement (still f**king amazing…)
Finally bro! :D I'm too biased to chose which I like the most but I kinda agree with what you said, except that I like a bit more Shadows in the Light than Harnessing Ruin because of the production... and I understand why you've chosen Atonement for no.1. I mean... I don't know any other band that developed such good riffs around pinch-harmonics, it's crazy... That being said, I will always choose Close to a World Below, as my no. 1. Not gonna try to do a top. They're all good imo, and they all meant something in my development stages, as a metalhead. Immolation is probably the most consistent band there is out there.
Quest your tripping here in after and failures for gods near the bottom lol. It's your list tho of course. But damn brother. Especially here in after. That's damn near their signature album.
Your rankings are great, my man. I don't necessarily agree with all of them, but that's the point, right? I'm binging on Immolation for a few days now and this was a pleasure to watch, as usual!
Hard to pick a favorite. Immolation are consistently excellent. I love Atonement. Listen to Harnessing Ruin a few more times. It's great!
The BEST death metal band ever....the most hard working and fucking perfect songwriting!!
top three immolation albums: 1: close to a world below, 2: failures for gods, 3: here in after
I am just getting more into them after getting into Incantation. Finally I get them and been focusing on first 5 albums with M&D and Atonement as well. I cannot say I agree with your ranking. Although it sounds samey - I thunk I like Here In After and Unholy Cult the best and I really cannot get into CTAWB (I will give it a couple more listens today). Newer ones are good, middle period is lacking production-wise I think, mostly.
Have you seen my comment to do Sigh ranking? I feel like you would like them, for sure. Any thoughts?
Here In After and Failures For Gods are my favorites, but they are a very consistent band.
Failures for Gods is my number one. I love the murky production. Love it.
Top 5 Death metal band for me.
10 Shadows in the light (Good album)
9 Dawn of Possession (This is probably controversial but still an 8/10 record for me)
8 Here in After
7 Majesty and Decay
6 Harnessing Ruin
5 Failures for Gods
4 Kingdom of Conspiracy
3 Atonement
2 Closer to a World Below
1 Unholy Cult
One of the best and most consistent death metal bands. They have no bad albums, though some are better than others. Here's my ranking:
10. Shadows in the Light
9. Harnessing Ruin
8. Kingdom of Conspiracy
7. Here in After
6. Atonement
5. Failures for Gods
4. Unholy Cult
3. Dawn of Possession
2. Close to a World Below
1. Majesty and Decay
My opinion (Again not including EPs
1) Dawn of Possession
2) Close to a world below
3) Acts of god
4) Majesty and Decay
5) Atonement
6) Unholy cult
7) Kingdom of Conspiracy
8) Failures for gods
9) Here in after
10) Harnessing ruin
11) Shadows in the light
Totally agree Atonement has blown me away, I got obsessed with it and I still Am .
Try to listen to it while reading the Manga berserk , it's just sooo goood.
YES !! It’s here 🤟🤟🤟🤟
Favorite album: Close To A World Below
Least Favorite: Shadows In The Light
Band is untouched
Day 31 of asking Quest to do a Led Zeppelin ranking (38 more days until the Mad Lad does it)
Keep it up champ 🍺
In typical QFM fashion he's gonna place Vol. 4 somewhere between the bottom and the middle.
@@Questformetal looking forward to the ranking, a little over a month away
My favourite DM band. Hard to rank their albums as I love every one of them. Got all their studio albums on vinyl, inkluding Provinence. Maybe Harnessing Ruin, Close to a World Below and Unholy Cult is top Three. But tomorow it’ll be something else. Acts of God is one of their best ever too.
I got into these guys recently and went to get some vinyl to add to my collection….damn it, those are pricey. I just filled in most of my Death collection with those Relapse represses…hoping for some on these because I would drop some money on those!
Indeed among the most impeccable & consistently exceptional metal bands of all time, along with being some of the most level-headed & kind-hearted folk in the game. No such thing as a bad Immolation record, hence why it's quite the task to rank records.
My attempt would look like (including their fantastic EPs):
12. Kingdom of Conspiracy (2013)
11. Harnessing Ruin (2005)
10. Shadows in the Light (2007)
9. Atonement (2017)
8. Majesty and Decay (2010)
7. Providence [EP] (2011)
6. Dawn of Possession (1991)
5. Unholy Cult (2002)
4. Hope and Horror [EP] (2007) ('The Struggle of Hope and Horror' is among the best tracks the madman Vigna has ever written)
3. Failures for Gods (1999)
2. Close to a World Below (2000)
1. Here in After (1996)
ps Greetings from the Netherlands!
Atonement is also my favorite. My first death metal show was the decibel tour with immolation, blood incantation, necrot, and morbid angel. I fainted. I literally headbanged too hard and didn’t drink enough water and fainted. Like a bitch. Immolation killed it.
1. Majesty and decay 10/10
2. Close to a world below 10/10
3. Unholy cult 9/10
4. Dawn of possession 9/10
5. Here in after 8/10
6. Failures for gods 8/10
7. Harnessing ruin 8/10
8. Atonement 8/10
9. Shadows in the light 7/10
10. Kingdom of conspiracy 7/10
A Glorious Epoch is their best song.
My fave is Atonement as well ;D Love it
One of my favorite death metal bands, every album is at least a 7.5 for me.
10. Kingdom of Conspiracy
9. Harnessing Ruin
8. Shadows in the Light
7. Atonement
6. Majesty and Decay
5. Dawn of Possession
4. Close to a World Below
3. Unholy Cult
2. Failures for Gods
1. Here in After
10. Shadows In The Light
9. Harnessing Ruin
8. Majesty In Decay
7. Kingdoms Of Conspiracy
6. Atonement
5. Unholy Cult
4. Dawn Of Possession
3. Failure For Gods
2. Here In After
1. Closer To A World Below
My list looks pretty different from yours. I really like the grimier sounding middle albums and doomy recent albums. The old school sound is awesome but doesn't as much for me as the previously stated ones. I used to be a fan of the blackened sound, but that got kind of old for me. I prefer slower or more mid-paced songs with breakdowns.
1. Failures for Gods
2. Majesty and Decay
3. Harnessing Ruin
4. Here in After
5. Kingdom of Conspiracy
6. Dawn of Possession
7. Atonement
8. Shadows in the Light
9. Close to a World Below
10. Unholy Cult
hey questy where would you rank the ACTS OF GOD album ?
I agree the newest one is absolute f@@@ing great!
1. Close to a World Below
2. Here in After
3. Unholy Cult
4. Failures for Gods
5. Acts of God
6. Dawn of Possession
7. Majesty and Decay
Haven't listened to others enough.
My top three are basically interchangeable. Which one I prefer tends to be whichever of these three I’m listening to at the time.
1. Harnessing Ruin (VERY underrated record. less catchy vocally but more interesting from a riff writing perspective than close to a world below. CTAWB part 2 basically)
2. Close to a World Below (flawless revolutionary record. You love it I love it, you know EXACTLY why this album is good)
3. Here in After (fucking weird ass riffs. I love it)
4. Atonement (drum work is their best since CTAWB if you ask me. Riffs are tasty too. Great record)
5. Failures for Gods (most brutal of their original three albums. Super cool drum work and production. Strangely less weird than here in after)
6. Majesty And Decay (pretty underrated album. When you actually look at the track list it sinks in how many bangers this album actually has)
7. Dawn of Possession (has some notable classics, like those left behind and into everlasting fire, but overall super overrated if you ask me)
8. Unholy Cult (feels like a less interesting and lest catchy harnessing ruin if you ask me. The band lost the fiery tone that made CTAWB so special and idk it just falls flat in comparison that and the majority of their other albums. Still quite good though)
9. Kingdom of Conspiracy (even though I have it in ninth place this album IS NOT BAD. There are some very high highs on this record, like the closing track, it’s just that the majority of the track list isn’t strong enough to save it from a low placement. There’s no bad songs, but it’s definitely the weakest immolation album I’ve heard )
I haven’t heard shadows in the light, so I won’t rank it.
Def don't agree with most of this, but this band is so fucking hard to rank their discog that at this point almost all of them are interchangeable.
10. Shadows In the Light 7.5/10
9. Kingdom of Conspiracy 8/10 (still completely agree that Kingdom is underrated but I prefer the others)
8. Majesty and Decay 8.5/10
7. Harnessing Ruin 8.5/10
6. Atonement 9.5/10
5. Unholy Cult 10/10
4. Close to a World Below 10/10
3. Dawn of Possession 10/10
2. Failures for Gods 10/10
1. Here In After... Genuine favorite album of all time, have the full album art poster on my wall, fucking 11/10 (How the hell do you think this one is more boring?!?)
Ha - my list would end up looing similarly to yours - but I cannot get into CTAWB for the life of me. Boring to me it is.
Just waiting on MISERY INDEX ranking 😃😃
Here In After or Unholy Cult are definitely the best.
I've tried countless times to get into their classic material and it just never does it for me at all. Close to a World Below and Dawn of Possession specifically.
Meanwhile I've listened to both Atonement and Acts of God and I absolutely love those 2.
Do sleep pls
10. Shadows in the light
9. Here in after
8. Majesty in decay
7. Kingdom of conspiracy
6. Harnessing ruin
5. Atonement
4. Unholy cult
3. Dawn of possession
2. Failure for gods
1. Close to a world below
Immolation? Yeah i've heard it's pretty popular in the Middle East.
10) Shadow In The Light
9) HarnessIng Ruin
8) Unholy Cult
7) Failures For Gods
6) Majesty And Decay
5) Here In After
4) Kingdom Of Conspiracy
3) Atonement
2) Dawn Of Possession
1) Close To A World Below
Question: Would you say they're Tech-Death, Blackened Death or just plain Death Metal?
I think they are a unique case where they manage to be all three of those genres 🤯
Middle East? No joke? I mean, I know there's a lot of people that tend to do what they like even secretly, but metal is not that... accessible in there? Maybe I don't know something. But if Immolation is somehow is popular in ME that means the people never can be enslaved by ideologies or conservatives if they do live full life. Interesting...
🤟🏻
Maybe a stone sour ranking?
Heresy, but you are entitled to your opinion. There is nothing wrong with the new stuff.
Unholy Cult and Failures For Gods are the best Immo albums. The weakest is Kingdom Of Conspiracy. Atonement would've be really in the top but way to polished almost awful plastic production holds it back
Q❤❤q❤q❤❤
Majesty and decay is my favorite.
Immolation (after Here in After) sounds like elements of NY Death metal with Nu-Metal...as if trying to be experimental but falling into slam oriented metal
