Some of the arguments presented here make no sense. It's basically "you took tuition money from us, we paid taxes, now give us PR." All of this was known when a decision was made to come to Canada. A study work permit does not guarantee a PR, it's only meant for studying.

Anyone coming here knew that demand for Canadian immigration was increasing, and hence PR was going to get more competitive. You have to understand, that PR/immigration is meant to serve the benefit of the host country, so they will cream skim the best. It’s unfortunate that more people don’t qualify now, but they can go back home, acquire more skills and apply thereafter. It’s not like there are NO options left.

Since 2020, international students have been flocking to a educational system that many Canadians now feel was used (by many of them) as a loophole-to-immigration. Students utilizing schooling as a back-door (not front-door) ticket to Canada. Swarming a 50+ year tradition/system that was not not NOT designed to be about EVERY international student wanting Permanent Residency. Plus it was not designed to be primarily about students immediately wanting work permits (& spouse permits). Canadians have clued in that Canada's post secondary education system has (in 4 years time) turned into what many are now jokingly calling EDUGRATION. Plus 'edugration' (public or private) was NEVER approved by everyday Canadians. .
Plus what about Ghost Consulting that Canada told India to halt? Canadians want the $ greedy agents in other countries to stop MARKETING & LYING to their own people about access to PR or citizenship … or accommodation/jobs … in places like Canada being relatively easy (to get). And for any people living in western countries to be ashamed of themselves if they're getting greedy too. Anyone doing things to make $ off of people's PR desires. At best, there is a 25% chance of gaining PR (better odds if you are masters/medicine etc.).
Are most international students truly scholars who wish to learn about other countries? Who came to Canada with enough $ to support themselves while STUDYING like they are supposed to? Or more-so economic migrants, who BORROWED $ to buy their way closer to the head of the immigration line? To say all the students or their consultants back home have not been at times 'gaming' Canada's education programs to gain western PR or $ is ridiculous. Students have contributed to Canada's housing CRISIS because 97% came-to-stay … not just visit with their temporary STUDY permit. This extreme NEVER existed at schools 4+ years ago.
What about the IELTS spouses? Anchor babies? Fraud? False asylum claims? What about Canadian food banks & charity services being recklessly advertised on YT in Indian languages? What about Canadian housing being scooped up en-mass as investment vehicles by/for internationals? What about home rental/boarding signs stating "vegetarians only can apply"? What about some Indian nationals buying local businesses then putting Indians only in the key positions while also drastically changing work practices that include working longer hours for less $ and at times The Caste System? Canadians are worried about this because more & more are experiencing it firsthand. Even in small towns.
Then throw in the Sikh vs Hindu violence/extortions across Canada. Diasporas stirring up tribal hatreds (in Canada) … even though it all stems from their ancestral home. How can peace be found anywhere with this in play? Plus the Canadian government recently launched investigations in regards to foreign interference in Canadian elections. All stemming from Asia continent.
Canadians are so so so not used to all this. So many, who have embraced multi-culturalism and immigration for decades are now VERY worried and fearful. All are praying it doesn't turn into great anger. Canadians want multi-culturism to succeed and for all people (including immigrants) to be okay. Everyone I know is VERY happy with IRCC's recent changes (reductions & multifaceted investigations etc.). Including multi-generational long-term Asian-Canadians where many have been the MOST upset (by all of this).
PS Canadians are aware that some great students are going through hell. And know Canada is partially to blame which hurts Canadian hearts. But bottom-line, Canada decides what needs to be done in Canada. Do you see Canadians protesting in other countries (that is not their own) making demands for themselves? No. Do Canadians now see primarily South Asians protesting in Canada, making demands (due to IRCC pumping it's immigration brakes because it REALLY HAS TO)? Yes.
If 36,000,000 Canadians travelled to India, since 2020, with the primary goal of being able to stay there permanently, that would raise India's population by 2.65%. Recent migrators after PR … especially international students... have raised Canada's population higher than 2.65%.
Changes (& deportations) are occurring in 2024, for HUGE reasons. In Canada, UK, Australia and other western countries too.
PS: Did international students and their families pay into Canadian taxes ALL their lives like domestic students have? No.
Did Canada force them to move to Canada as a student? No.
Did Canada promise/guarantee PR? No.
Yet do specific students only blame Canada when they can't get PR? 🤔
My kids are graduated from high school and going to university. They are unable to find summer job. All entry level jobs are taken by international students.

We both know that these jobs are now exclusively hiring new comers, either due to cultural familiarity, lower wages, less demand for workplace rights because they don’t know how to exercise them as newcomers. Useless Arguments by most of them. Tax is paid by every individual whether they are TR or PR. Student visa does not guarantee PR and every student writes in their SOP that they will come back after studying.

I’m Canadian citizen but I’m supporting international students. To be honest I can’t afford my home mortgage. Me and many more are totally reliable on international students if they leave Canada how we will find tenants to pay our mortgages? We should appreciate them for their hardworking and supporting Canadian economy. They paying CPP for us they should have right to stay in Canada. We all should accept them and show humanity. Don’t be cruel, racist. If anyone has personal problems with students, they can leave Canada and set an example for international students so they can follow you. The Canadians used to support themselves even before the students were granted study. There is no logic in this argument. There is no hate for international students. However, they have no legal contract with Fed govt which issues students' them temporary study visa which automaticall can not be into PR just like that witout any qualification process. Everybody in this country have to qualify for PR the hard way. I came to Canada 20 years's ago and followed the process to PR and the Citizenship. That was not easy at all. The internatioanl sutdents and travel visa holders who are not PR as on date have no legal right to get automatic PR status as per terms of their visa docs.

The sense of entitlement and subtle threat to protest (and cause chaos) is disturbing.
There is no rights. I am an immigrant and Canadian citizen but if government wants the government can take my citizenship because it is privileged given to me and not my rights. So don't put these kinds of stuff or say rights. Even their own Punjabis who are citizen here saying it is not right to demand since they already knew they came here for studies. And no one exploited them because they are an adult and know what is best for them.

This push is being done by the government of Canada, especially Punjabi Students are having to bear the brunt of the government's wrong policy. Every Canadian citizen should personally write a letter to their Member of Parliament. If there is no solution for these students, many families will be destroyed due to financial hardship. Let us all support these students so that the families living in Punjab can be saved from desertion.
We worked in covid day and night when every canadian who was once immigrant was afraid of going out. We help out the canadian community whenever there is natural disaster whether it is flood in ottawa or heavy snow in nova Scotia. On the canada website it is clearly written study work stay what that means first they promised now they are not fulfilling it

Whoever has score near to 490, they should immediately move to India and get one year experience which will gain them 30 points and they can ensure their PR
I do feel sorry for many of these students. The are actually victims to some degree from the colleges and the agents in Punjab. My suggestion would be the government provide a special visa where they can work full time and continue their bachelor’s degree in part time basis. They need to enroll in legit universities and provide a path to PR after completing their degree within a time period. Moving forward Diploma should not be a requirement for PR. It’s worthless. that is inaccurate. I worked at a temp agencies, and loads of international students refused work in construction. Out right said no. But yet they need work. So "can't compete with hard working immigrants." is completely false.

They were called heros during pandemic, hero’s deserve their fareshare i.e PR or extended work permit instead of praise and clapping during pandemic.
