  • Welcome back to our homeschool channel! In this video I take you along with me as I drive to Richmond, Virginia for the Home Educators Association of Virginia's (HEAV) Homeschool Convention! the HEAV convention is one of the largest, most vibrant in the nation. It boasts of over 130 vendors and an engaging line up of speakers.
If you are a homeschool parent or you are considering homeschooling, watch this video to see how exciting and encouraging a homeschool convention can be. You can find new curriculums, flip through all of your options, purchase educational resources, and enjoy so much more at homeschool conventions. In my opinion, they are worth the trip atleast every couple of years to keep you up to date on all of the options you have as a homeschooling family.
Let me know in the comments if you've been to a homeschool convention in your area and what you think of them! I'd also love to know if you were at the HEAV convention this year and if you got to listen to any of the amazing speakers. I got to hear Amber ONeal Johnston from Heritage Mom Blog speak and I highly encourage you to look her up and purchase her book if you haven't already!
Homeschool conventions are so much fun, especially if you can grab a few homeschooling buddies to go with you! I was so thankful to get to have this girls day with my mom (a homeschool veteran!) and my sister at the Richmond, Virginia Homeschool Convention put on by the Home Educators Association of Virginia! (HEAV) Check out HEAV.org for more information and resources for homeschooling in Virginia.

My boys and I run a game table in the vendors hall. Hopefully we'll see you later this week!

I attended the HEAV convention for the first time this year. I only signed up for the exhibit hall shopping, but next year I am definitely going for the speakers as well! My 12 year old daughter came with me & loved it.

Oh my goodness, how fun to go with your daughter! I can see my oldest loving it one day too. Thanks for sharing. Also, it’s definitely tempting to pay the cheaper price for just the shopping ticket (I almost did the same thing!) but everyone I talk to says they never regret paying to hear the speakers!

It was great! You get a time to go in based on when you register for the convention. I registered late so didn’t get to go in until the afternoon. It was pretty picked over and I still found some great things!

I honestly go back and forth every year on whether or not I should spend the money to go, but I’m never disappointed! It’s such a good time of encouragement and knowing you’re not alone in your homeschooling journey. I love that they include speakers for homeschooling for families with special needs kids. ♥️

What curriculum did your sister choose for 5 year old?

She ended up finding him some Abeka K5 books at the used curriculum sale, so decided to grab that and give it a try! I have the teachers manual and reading books that go with it so I’m going to lend them to her too!
