its literally the same with gravity falls where bill cipher has true power in fact we never actually see him at his full potential since he gets stuck in gravity falls cus of the magic boarder so technically bill could be more powerful at his full potential

This fight doesn't undersell Discord at all. We know for a fact that magic sealing/draining/nullification completey strips him of his power (Tirek, Chrysalis' Throne, Cozy's spell, The Betwitching Bell) And Wierdmageddon Bill can do *everything* Discord can do and more, including magic sealing which he used on Mabel.
Bill is Discord's hard counter

Technically Discord did win when it came to what matters. He sacrificed his essence to save the ponies so Bill would be imprisioned in his mind. The former fought for his friends, the later fought for himself. He knew Bill couldn't be beaten.
