He keeps saying "I'm trying to keep my ego in check" followed up by "well ya know I had bad business partners" sounds like he's not over it yet and is still allowing his ego to place blame elsewhere.

The measure of a person is to admit a mistake and not be buried by that mistake. I could tell that this was difficult for you to talk about, but the courage that you exhibited was inspiring. Everyone makes mistakes, it is how we deal with them and learn from them that differentiates winners from losers! You sir are will on your way to being a winner in the game of life! Thanks for sharing with all of us!!

I recently visited your big kid candy shop at Curated, and was blown away by how awesome it is/was. You have an amazing story, and this needs to get out to more people. You got knocked down and knocked down hard, but you’ve come back up swinging. That’s an amazing amount of resiliency. I wish I knew about you before, I would have loved to shake your hand and tell you how I appreciate you being so honest.

John and the team are the best people! One I was coming back home to Miami from Atlanta and passed by the dealer around 8 pm (they were closed) and they were unloading a XJ220 and 918!! I was excited to see the process and they were soo friendly and allowed me to enter showroom and check all the cars while the were parking them!! John was very polite! I will buy a my dream car there one day soon!!

Never compare yourself to others and always do your best. I never knew the part about your arrest being tied to not having an LLC or that Levinsohn kept clear of the financials. Water under the bridge but very cool you learned from it and have rebounded. Curated is an awesome company and I sport my sticker on my car at every show. Love the videos and learning from your passion :)

    John,
That was an excellent story - thank you for sharing. I've had similar experiences (not the arrest). People/kids need to know that it isn't as simple as coming up with an idea and then selling your shares at an IPO in under a year... mistakes ARE made... there ARE failures. And what happens then? Some people change course. Entrepreneurs 'pick themselves up and get back in the race' ... "That's Life!"
    Keep moving forward.

Great story telling John… I know exactly how it feels having its own life “temporarily destroyed” by owing some money to someone who is a millionaire but wants this kid to be kept down low on the ladder… the banks and and the state administration have a long lasting memory and when you think that time has wiped away all traces: Whammmoo here it raises again from the ashes to kick you hard! Never give up! Be dead honest with yourself and anyone else and remember: Those who really have to go to jail are the very ones trying to keep you small!

That's what I like about John. He is humble and knowledgeable, owns his mistakes and can laugh at them. He never gave up and threw in the towel. I worked for many rich people when I was yacht crew and the thing that surprised me the most about a lot of them was how fake they were. Dishonest, disingenuous, and materialistic to the point of being stupid. It was a real eye opener. And some of these people couldn't afford the yacht they were on. But it was a status symbol they used to bully, coerce, and illicit others into doing business with them. But a truly rich person is comfortable where they are and in what they have. And thankful for it.

    Great story John,
Failure should not be seen as a negative, it should be seen as a lesson to learn from.
It's not about the mistake, it's what you do after that mistake.
I see so many of the young people I take on who crumble when they fail, they see it's as the worst thing that could ever happen.
Many times it's because they are so worried what other people think.
I have to work really hard with them to accept Failure and change the attitude of caring what phone they have or trainers they wear.
Looking forward to more cars and life stories.

1994 was the only year I was full time with my one man lawn service. I created some debt in credit cards that I wasn’t able to pay into the winter of 1994/1995 as I got two jobs for the winter that didn’t work out then I moved to another city for another job. I went through charge offs for a few of the credit cards which trashed my credit rating. I restarted my lawn service again in the city I moved to but my credit rating kept me from getting loans on better lawn equipment. Dealing with unknown health problems I quit the lawn service and only kept delivering pizza in the evening. Had I not messed up my credit I might have grown my lawn service with zero turn mowers and better equipment.

Back in the early 80's, in my early 20's I used to write checks based upon the fact they wouldn't hit my bank for a period of time which gave me a few days to deposit a paycheck that would cover it. I did this all the time, no problems, until I forgot about a $100 odd check I had written, and it bounced. I wasn't aware of it until I received a notice from the courts stating when I needed to appear, and my options. I think I was going to need to take a check writing class, like drivers school when you get a speeding ticket, and obviously pay the debt. But, fortunately, I had paid the debt before going to court, told my story, and they canned the case as if it had never existed. They knew I wasn't intentionally trying to defraud anyone, and this was my first, and last check writing offense. I guess an $8000 check is a bit worse, but having a warrant out for your arrest is like saying we know you're guilty, and you get no representation, do not pass go, do not collect $200, straight to jail before the situation is explained, or you have an opportunity to set it right. It was one check, and your first time? If it wasn't the first time, I get it, but it does seem a bit overhanded to just arrest you, especially at a public event. This sounds personal, maybe there's another story here? 😁👍✌
