  • Fixing my Mercedes S Class collapsed suspension. If you know me from the BBC antiques TV shows, you know I love my cars!
Here’s my 2011 Mercedes S350 AMG spec. I’ve owned the car for two years and I’ve known it from new. The front suspension on the passenger side collapsed whilst driving and after limping home, here’s how we fixed it!
    I love this car!
    Cheers

Thx for the video. 2 suggestions: Please buy a floor jack and some good Jack stands. A scissor jack is not sufficient to be the only thing holding up a 4500lb car, they are for emergency road use. There's no reason not to be using the proper (and cheap!) tools for safety and peace of minds sake. Mark, you're gonna get crushed to death or lose your legs if that ski jack/scissor jack falls over or fails sir.....

Thank you so much for the well detailed video, certainly enjoyed it. When you lift the car, you will hear the air rushing due to the car being smart to release some pressure as you raise as to not damage the air strut.

My s500 front dropped overnight 40k miles on the clock. Then it had to wait 2 weeks for the garage and all 4 had dropped side had dropped by then. It was this little thing 15:15 causing it to drop. Replaced both side for £250 and all is well again.

Mine slammed in the front both sides, then the rear followed suit after a week or so. Yours wouldn’t raise up at all either ?

There is a small control arm at the rear of the car which controls the ride height, it's a pig to get too but i would see if that has snapped if it is down on the front and rear. It's in the middle of the car above the back axle.

Great video David , love your passion for the car which I also have for my own S Class 2015. Question , today I noticed that when I press the button on the centre console while is supposed to raise the car , the car does not appear to physically rise . The dash messages says it is rising but I see no evidence . I had the 2 x front lower Control Arms replaced a while ago ( a fail advisory on a previous service ) but never tested the ability to rise the car before that . Any ideas ? tia.

Cheers for that. The car now belongs to a friend mine. Saw him the other day and he says it’s the best car he’s ever owned…he’s had everything from Porsche, Bentley to Ferrari! With yours, best to take it to a Mercedes specialist. Might be just a sensor?

If you own one of these cars and you hear the air leak coming out of where the front air shock is and there are no bubbles on the top, don’t waste your money on other parts just buy a new strut

I’ve done the same job with Dubai Dealer and it costed DHS27,000 or $7,400
These cars are money pits and if you don’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen. I would buy a used one if and only if the owner changed the suspension system otherwise factor it in your buying price

Beautiful car, about to pick up an S350 BlueTEC myself, a 2012 here in Southern California, definitely getting an extended warranty, and pre-purchase inspection. Mine is iridium silver metallic with the Sahara leather, I'm always quite surprised though that in the UK the S-Class can come without a sunroof, which is standard in the United States, and then of course panoramic roof is available just as in the UK. But then it's odd there are like several Lexus models that are available in the UK with a panoramic roof, yet not even available in the United States at all like the Lexus NX LOL

I wonder if I can buy them in the United States, never heard of them before. I was recently researching struts for my 2013 S550 and see that Bilstein seems to be the manufacturer for Mercedes because when on their site they say you have to buy them from the dealer. They are about $2400 for two from dealer. Do you know if I can get Areosus here?@@DavidHarperAntiquesTV

NICE VID/CAR. I HAVE 7 MERCEDES AND MANY WITH THE SAME ISSUE. HOWEVER, I DID NOT SEE YOU RUN A SCAN ON THE SYSTEM BEFORE YOU ORDERED AND INSTALLED THE LEVELING SENSORS. IS THERE A REASON FOR THAT??????? PERHAPS YOU COULD HAVE SAVED THE EXPENSE/TIME. I JUST REPLACED ONE OF MY SENSORS BASED ON THE LIVE DATA READING. THAT DID NOT SOLVE MY OVERALL ISSUE, BUT IT DID SOLVE THAT ISSUE ON ONE SENSOR. THE OTHER THREE WERE READING/OPERATING JUST FINE
