Johhny died on 12th of september 2003, on my 19th birthday. This special was broadcast on Croatian tv few days after recording. I got so drunk in my home watching, my parents went to bed and leave me be, after I explained why he wore black and said to them: "This whole thing is for a poet, a legend, a man in black. And I'm just a poet."
Absolutely legendary. People super quiet in the beginning wondering what was going on and at some point in time realized they were witnessing something incredible… and went nuts
22321---first 4 me ---man u are good-----im 64 today and known that song sine 1969 more of less in the 5th or 6 th grade------few people can fly with his material----you did
Not a cover. This song is old, traditional. It doesn't belong to anyone. It's for anyone to sing. And Wyclef Jean sure does sing it his way. Not a cover. His interpretation. And it's deep. It's original, yet true to the roots.
Give it up for Wyclef Jean. He made this song his. So many others who sang this song, like Johnny Cash, for instance, made this song theirs too. Wyclef Jean put a whole new spin on this song, and it's a whole nother thing, and it's fine.
And to think this song all started because of a 14-year-old boy who killed a 14-year-old girl December 24th 1900 all because she didn't reciprocate his feelings sad State of affairs that is at least there's a good song out of it.
WAY better? How about just different? They are both outstanding and Wyclef did a great job putting his own signature on it without disrespecting JC's version.
Got to call that an Epic FAIL!!! That cat should stick to rapping. He started out good, but screwed the lyrics up. So I ask you, how can it be a tribute song when you change the original lyrics?
Not really. There are several different versions of the song. If your going to make an argument or debate something do your research first. Wyclef was doing a supposed "Tribute", and instead did a "Remake" as he didn't stay true to Johnny Cash's version.
taintedtannis I bet you're fun at parties.😒😒🔫👍👍 Lighten up. It was a great creative take, whatever kind of song. Try to enjoy something. Great job Wyclef. Still love this version.
I have never forgotten this performance.
He gave a great performance covering Johnny Cash's song! Great tribute, Wyclef! 👏
Wyclef is such a king.
So versatile. Love him to death
My favorite Johnny Cash song, happy to see Wyclef chose it
Killer ... performance. Wuz watching this in '98 ... still blows me away ... Johnny loved it!
Wyclef Jean is a great musician with a heart and talent for great songs. This was a beautiful tribute to Johnny Cash.
The best part of that show back in the day!!!!😎🔥😎

Absolutely BRILLIANT... that's all I got to say on that subject...
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Outfknstanding. Brilliantly done.
Bra-vo.
the middle part where wyclef raps has always been my favourite part of this song but johnny cash is a much better rapper.
Definitely a unique version and pretty kool.
Hard to come up with enough superlatives to describe how good this was!
Brilliant
He did a good job.
GREAT TUNE!!!
yeah!
I like this version
I remember the tribute concert when he did this great cover!
Absolutely legendary. People super quiet in the beginning wondering what was going on and at some point in time realized they were witnessing something incredible… and went nuts

He put some stank on it!🤣
Love it!!!..=) Good Upload
i've never heard anything by this guy,but i've decided i kinda like him...
Wyclef owns that F*&king song. That isn't a tribute , he made it his song.
RIP Delia
A favourite part, but Dylan's Train of Love was transcendent...
This song is base on a true story you know
Delia Green murder, Savannah 1900
All songs are based on true stories. Especially murder ballads❤🖤 lol

1000% better than the original. What a hoot. WJ loves it and so do his musicians. Great cover.
johnny cash's version is way better.

+noel curry very true
This is alright, but I totally agree. A lot more growl in Johnny Cash's version.
totally agree. And I always thought that Johnny Cash was a much better rapper than Wyclef Jean.
Waylon’s is the best this version sound like nails on a chalkboard
I liked it until that little freestyle rap part in the middle. That almost ruined the whole thing for me.
You can get a refund at point-of-purchase
Grow up, enjoy the mix

Creative license.
Maybe so, but its not a true tribute if you change the lyrics. Then it would be a "remake", not a TRIBUTE.
Johnny changed the original lyrics too. Hmm...
