    Holy crap man!!!! I've listened to RJ's complete recordings at least once a week for the last 25 yrs, & been tryin to play these tunes for all those years, some I'm happy with like my Versions of the Spanish tuning songs, some I'm not so happy with ie: my versions of the standard tuned songs, I've bought quite a few books, audio lessons, & video lessons over the years. I got something from some, but very little from most. You have just nailed every sound in every bar of this tune!!

    • @patrickfoster4586
      @patrickfoster4586 Před 5 lety +11

      Yep, but keeping that boogie going on the bass strings was essential for playing the "juke joints" and earning a living back then. This was literally the dance music in countless little pubs across the South. I'm really thinking the whole 'keeping the rythym going with the thumb while playing lead with your other fingers' is what he sold his soul for. Lol.

    • @gtnsteve1
      @gtnsteve1 Před 5 lety +1

      Take a look at Richard Smith's videos or/and those made by Tommy Emmanuel. The trick is to disconnect the thumb from the fingers. You are playing with 2 instruments, and occasionally the thumb of the left hand curling around the neck. Not to mention plucking with the left hand. 'Taint easy, McGee!

    I'm a bit late with my comment but here it is.
    I'm aghast anyone could "thumbs down" such an excellent free video lesson. It's obviously a "bread on water" exercise in creating interest in the DVDs but Mr Feldmann doesn't hold back and shares the techniques RJ uses in many of his pieces. He also does it very well. Some comments below refer to the feel of the playing and getting that across in a video is worthy enough.
    I've been playing/teaching for c40 years and I say this is bloody good. The only thing to add is that after learning someone else's interpretation of a RJ song, listen to the various takes available and hear the differences. It's about style not rote! And there aren't that many opportunities to hear alternative versions of the blues greats.
    Cheers.
