    Little bit of background on Joost. He was creative from a very young age and also a bit different. His father said that there are no boundaries and he should follow his dreams. They always watched the Eurovision Songfestival together so as a kid he replied that his dream would be to go to the Eurovision Songfestival. Then his dad passed away when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. For inspiration and acceptance of the loss of his parents he travelled trough Europe. Therefore he sings that the pain and emptiness stayed with him no matter where he went. He paid for mental help but it did not work for him. Still he managed to be a very positive and joyful person as reflected in this song. He sings about the song Papaoutai from Stromae that is also about missing his father. In all of this he managed to combine lot's of cultural aspects of different European countries and the Netherlands. Without the layer of his personal life you will notice that a lot of elements can directly be related to the European countries. The young boy and the old man represent him and his father struggling trough life and his father being an example for him. The final emotional scene represents him as a kid and his father when it all ended, the burning of the family photo and the building represents that you need to move on in life and not get stuck in the past. In the end he tells that he listened to his father (there are no borders for your dreams) and refers to him going to the Eurovision Songfestival. So winning would be optional, his goal was participation.

    • @TheDiesh
      @TheDiesh Před 5 měsíci +7

      The house is a reference to the pain of losing both his parents at the age of 12 and 13. It's time for him to let go of the pain. Plus he is full circle now because as a kid he used to watch Eurovisiesongfestival with his parents and he told them he would be up on that stage! His dad told him that he has no boundaries and borders, so go for it.
      The whole song is an ode to his father!

    Joost is from my region in The Netherlands (Friesland). Even though I'm not always a fan of his music, I really like this entry. It's fun, quirky, catchy. The dance break style is called gabber, a popular hardcore techno sub-genre from The Netherlands that was popular in the 90s. Even my mom likes this song, and she never likes any "current" music, so that says a lot. 🤣 We're proud of what he has achieved! The last part gave me goosebumps, it's so touching knowing that his parents passed away when he was young.

    Those guys in the video are his friends indeed. But the dark skinned guy does "marketing" promoting him on social media. The people at the table indeed include S10 and the guy next to him at the right is Maradonnie and he helped him write the song. Also the guy in the car is DJ Paul Elstak and he made the heavy (happy harcore) part in the end of the video.

    I needed this review desperately 🤣🤣🤣.
    First of all, I will help you out with some questions and info. The name is pronounced with the O as in Ghost, so a large O. Secondly, his father died and the end, which actually made me cry, refers to his father who taught him to have a wide view of the world and that there are no borders. Also, Stien, who is in the video, is a superlovely person, so I wasn't surprised to see her and I loved that. The dancepart, a lot of people don't know, but the dancestyle is called: hakken. It's a rave dancestyle invented in the tecnoworld in The Netherlands and it has recently came back. And last but not least, Joost is friends with Käärija, no surprise, right?
    And then, do I like the song...? Honestly, I am not sure yet 😂😂😂😂 I am still absorbing it 😂😂😂
    I like the song, it is the typical silly Dutch song that all Dutchies sing from the top of our lungs in the pubs with a beer in our hands. So will it be a hot in Holland, no doubt about it 😂😂😂. I also love that it's in Dutch and I like the message. But am I in love? No. Not yet? Might be.

      Yesss !!! This year is crazy and so so tough !!! Unbelievable. I don’t remeber from the last 4 years having so many good songs…
      Netherlands really came back with a strong entry. I don’t know why people see something funny or fun and immediately call it a joke entry … it’s a song with so many messages

      @@georgikanevESC It's a really competitive year, and that's so good for the festival. Last year was great and all, but it had a very clear winner so the final lacked of interest. This year there's no clear winner and that's great.
      It's a bit tiring that of "joke entry" as soon as people hear/see something fun, but important things can also be sung in a fun way, not only slow and depressive. Even Finland talk about something actually really important for the mental health, specially nowadays, that is "I don't give a fuck what you think, I don't know if this is wrong or right, but this is who I am and this is how I live". A joke entry was "Chikilicuatre" from Spain (sorry) in 2008, that was a JOKE entry haha.

      @@SayaKur0Zer0 and we all know how many pre parties don’t have a good sound and people will drag down some of the entries … 🙁
