    Hey bud, something threw me off on the video, you said flaps are combat mode & automated on setting 1. I promoted a discussion in reddit about this, and the response I got back was someone had dug into source code and confirmed the flaps are jus5 set to 50% at setting 1.

      The flap 1 setting is definitely just a fixed amount of flaps yes, I definitely got that bit wrong. I think I was getting myself confused with the F45 auto flaps.

      @@SLGY No worries! I'm a CFI, you covered the real stuff perfectly as far as I can tell.

      The leading edge flaps are automatic so possibly whenever I looked back from the cockpit and saw that they were moving with AoA changes, I must have assumed it was part of the current flap setting. My bad🤷‍♂️ But hey, it's not like I was lying intentionally, like Fox News.

    Title is very misleading, this very useful and has certainly helped me with my carrier landings!

    So, I just did a browse of your channel: I recognize VTOL VR is not what your channel is known for, but I am *so* glad you made this video (and others like it for V_ V_). I learned more about the instrument panel and general V_V_ flying in these 20 minutes than I have in several hours of watching other people's videos. Can't wait for my VR hardware to arrive.

      Thanks for saying. I used to do Teardown videos during Covid lockdown to ease the boredom, but I only do flying game related stuff now when I have some spare time 🤷‍♂️

    Subtitles are available for those viewers that can't penetrate the accent.
    Also, as with all these vids I say 'airspeed' even though the instruments are reading 'true airspeed', whereas a lot of what I'm saying is true only for 'indicated airspeed'. But in these flight regimes and altitudes it makes little difference to the results.

      @@SLGY I definitely find it useful. We can all throw a plane at a runway and hope it sticks, but there something satisfying about doing it correctly

    • @SLGY

      Yeah they're not a very intuitive instrument to read quickly, especially if you haven't flown with one for a while. They're not that common in aircraft these days and are usually only a backup instrument. AoA readouts are much better implemented in modern fighters and are even seeing a lot of use in crop dusters etc in recent years (mainly situations where aircraft weight varies a lot each flight).

    Great video , I learned a lot!
    How do I determine which AOA to land for different aircraft. Do I have to actually flight it?

    • @SLGY
      @SLGY  Před 7 měsíci

      Well I guess that's the beauty of the AoA indexer, no matter which aircraft, or it's configuration, payload, etc, just keep the yellow circle illuminated and you're at the correct approach speed 😉
