Great video! Parents remember not to compare kids. Everybody grows at different rates and it’s not a competition. If you truly can’t help it, don’t let this kid bring you down, as someone else stated this boy is INCREDIBLY advanced for his age. If your child isn’t doing everything he is, it’s perfectly normal and this isn’t a requirement list. It’s just good recommendations on things to teach them.
Very true, my 19 months old boy cannot name things and colours besides mama and papa, and definitely cannot stack blocks, though he’s in progress.
True ! Languages are different too. Some of them are really hard to learn. English is a very easy language for kids
Very true! I’m a grandma and when my kids started school I had no idea 25 years ago parents were pushing their kids so hard until then. I’m sure I could’ve worded this better but I don’t mean it to be cruel. I thought my son was so smart and how impressed the teacher would be….boy was that a shocker! There were kids that were reading and so advanced, I never even thought they could know so much in pre-k! I was a stay at home mom and had to fortune of being able to teach my child myself and work with both of them and thought I was doing extremely well. Ha! There is always a kid or half a class 😂 that is smarter than your kid. Take this with a grain of salt. Just do your best and never compare.

Hey Melba! Welcome to our channel! Don't worry about your little guy! Funny thing is, our Christian boy couldn't hardly say anything when he turned one and I actually talked to his pediatrician about getting a referral to a speech and language pathologist. We decided to wait until he was 15 months old and watch and see how he developed over the next 3 months. We changed many of the things we did with him and became more intentional about the way we spoke to him and sort of "played with words" with him and he TOOK OFF! As the eldest of 5 kids, a day camp/nursery counselor, and now with 2 kids of my own; I would say that this kid is hyper advanced for 18 months. And as a parent watching a video like this you might feel discouraged or even feel like you’re failing as a parent. Please don’t.
That said it’s all great advice and good milestones for a toddler but not necessarily all of them to be hit at 18 months.
I seriously almost lost it when I thought they said potty trained at 18mo. There are kids that really struggle in that dept and might not get there even by 4 even yrs old or more still wearing a pull up.
Again good guidance and ideas but don’t think all of these need to be hit at 18 months.
You are absolutely right! First, our son is advanced for his age and second, these milestones are great to work toward but don't need to be hit by 18 months! They are just great age-appropriate skills to be working on with your toddler. Many of our viewers have also found that these skills are great practice for kids much younger and much older - it really is such a neat part about watching a child develop! Thank you for this comment. I like to watch these videos to see if my sons on track, but then they make me feel like shit and like hes super behind, even tho he is meeting milestones. My sons 18 months and he repeats any word and understands 70% of what we say, but he cannot make sentences at all:(
My now 8yo was behind behind in speech and gross motor skills etc. She picked up between 4 and 5. We moved to the UK staying in London now. She is ahead of her class in reading and writing. She was appointed school councillor. Keep trying with your kids and do not stress.

These video are made to address developmental milestones and activities to help your child meet those milestones for a typical 18 month old child. Every child is going to have strengths and weaknesses across every developmental domain (Christian included)! This videos are really helpful for me, as English is not our family first language but we are trying to raise a bilingual child, Italian and English, it really helps to hear what you say in everyday situatios and real life, I can speak a good grown-up English but sometimes when talking with my child I feel a bit "stiff". this helped me realize how much quality time I should spend with my 18 month old... he is such a smart boy I see it and don't help him, all I did till now is just tought him how to watch cartoons while im always soo busy with all the housework and everything else... Im very grateful for this video❤
Dont worry sweetie, all mothers do get stuck at some point. It.s good that you noticed this specific behavior from you and you intend to work on it. You are a great mom regardless, dont put so much pressure on yourself, because it happens to all of us. I am a mother of two and i too had times when i was really stressed, or been distracted with other's needs that i fell into this behavior myself and i was "forgetting" how to find time for my kids, or not having an idea what am i supposed to do better as a mom.
All in all, you are doing great and better start working on that behavioral change... things will get fun and fulfilling soon.

From reading the comments, I'm just not going to watch the video. My 18 month old barely says 2 words. And I constantly compare him to others. The worst part is he doesn't qualify for speech therapy. Your videos are so helpful though but I'm skipping this one to prevent myself from feeling angry 😭

My child is 18months old now.And he does all these activities.
I know it's an old video but it's amazing and so useful! My kiddo is of a similar age and confuses his colours. I'm going to buy those blocks too as they look like fun (although I understand some kiddos take more time to pick up colours and shapes). I think parents today ignore fine motor, social and emotional skills and concentrate too much on the academic side so I'm glad you mentioned activities tp develop each and every aspect ❤️ And you have a smart cookie!

I find that having them play with other children helps them too. If two 18 month olds play and one can kinda talk and one can’t eventually both of them will be able to talk very well. It’s in our nature to want to bridge any gap in communication

Hi Kaitlun! Yes! Our little guy's talking is quite advanced for his age! Just about 10-20 words total would be age appropriate for an 18 month old but every child is different and there is definitely a range for normal! 💞

My baby is 18 months and im starting to think he has autism. Doesn't make eye contact. Doesn't respond to name doesnt point. Doesnt speak. Hes able to run around and climb stairs and all that and is clearly doing well with cognitive abilities in general like problem solving. He just doesnt like to socialize. Hed rather connect 2 megablocks and then disconnect them for 30 minutes straight. I worry ive done something wrong

People, please don't "work toward" ANY of those things. Your child will learn on their own, if you let them. As a pedagogue and mother all I ask you to do is to observe your child and go along with their interests. Feed into the interest that is already there, provide appropriate activities and your child will thrive. Be careful with all the "GoOd JoB"s and so on. They will end up in your child depending on your validation of what they're doing all the time, instead of letting them have their own pride in what they accomplish. Let them develop intrinsical (their own) motivation to do stuff, instead of only enjoying to do things, if they get a "GoOd JoB" for it (extrinsical motivation). Just say what you observe, like "Oh, you put the ball into the cup".
Also don't provide them with all the solutions, or they won't learn how to solve promlems on their own. Like, yeah, the boy now knows how to put toys in a cart to bring them over to the shelve faster. But when in life is he gonna need exactly that skill? Never. If he didn't come up with the idea on his own, he won't be able to transfer the idea over to other, similar situations. So actually he didn't learn anything at all - if anything, an opportunity to learn has been taken away from him.
Same with the bouncing ball. A shame, the boy wasn't allowed to figure it out on his own.

A lot of comments saying this is “very advanced” speech for an 18 month old. It’s actually fairly typical (although on the upper side of average).
A lot of guidance says a child should be speaking 20 words at this age. That’s actually a minimum - less than that means it’s time to keep an eye out for speech and language delays.
At 18 months:
95% of children can say 6 words
50% Can say 50 words
25% Can say 170 words
5% have 210 - 250 words
For something to count as a word it must be said spontaneously (ie it can’t be said immediately after the adult has just said it otherwise that’s just mimicking which most 18 month olds could probably mimic every word you say and often will repeat the last word of each sentence you say to them).
The 18 month ASQ specifically states 8 or more words. Stating they should be speaking a minimum of 20 can scare parents when there may not be a need to worry yet.
With that being said, activities to help encourage development of vocabulary are very important.

this is not an educational video. do not watch it as so, nor should you compare your child's development to what you see above. If you have questions about baby or toddler's motor development, consult with a family doctor, a pediatric physio or even a government website on child development. There is a high amount of variability in how children develop and achieving milestones early or late on their own is in not indicative of how your child will function at a more mature stage. That being said, there's lots of positives in the video and great ideas for interaction with your child, but please do not use this as for comparison purposes.

Hey there! Glad to see you are enjoying our activities we've shared with our 18 month old! As far as tantrums are concerned, there are so many things that can be said about this topic but I'll just share a few here. First it's important to recognize we cannot be in control of their feelings or behavior. They will respond to their stimulus, their environment, the history of what they've known, every little thing comes into play when they react. What's important is that you you control YOUR own behavior and model an appropriate response every time. So first, you'll need to set boundaries and expectations with your daughter and be 100% consistent with following through with those boundaries. My next piece of advice would be to model the appropriate response. So if your kiddo is upset about needing to cleaning up, you might say "I see you are feeling sad. Playing with your toys is so much fun! We can play with toys again (tomorrow, after dinner, etc.). Mama said that it is time to clean up so it is time to put our toys away. Say, "yes Mama" (yes mama). Thank you. I would love to help you clean up. Do you want to clean up the blocks or the balls?" This example shows many skills:
1) Acknowledging your child's feelings
2) Setting the expectation
3) Modeling the appropriate response
4) Helping your child to navigate the request/emotions
5) Giving them a choice on how to move forward

Is the age of your son 19 months and 1-2 weeks in the video?
It's hard to say exactly how old he was because I don't quite remember! We posted this video on May 1st which would have made him 19 months and 1 week however, all of the initial videos on our channel were recorded well in advance (starting in February) until we had enough complete to launch our channel. He was definitely somewhere in the 18 month range, I'm just not sure if it was plus 1 week or 2 or 3, etc. Hope that helps!

As a developmental counselor who has worked with children for over 20 years and is one of 9, I beg you all to stop watching these video's. All my siblings were talking at 9 months. They were very well advance. When I started working with children professonally, it could have been said that they were delayed! Stop watching stuff like this!
