My rationale for watching a half hour video:
    1. Appreciating the work that goes into it
    2. Loving big projects and seeing how the logistics play out
    3. Loving fish
    4. Loving people with great personalities

I had promised my kids that I will buy them an acquirium. Then I started watching videos on how to keep fish. I realised it is a very technical hobby. I need to learn a lot. It has been little less than 2 years now. Just wanted to know how to move a tank.

I cleaned my month old tank this weekend and thanks to you John, cleaned my filter with the aquarium water which was siphoned while doing the water change and not under a running tap.
Wouldn't have done that if I hadn't watched any of your videos. So would like to thank you for educating me about fish keeping and keeping them safe.
    These little guys are adorable.

    Watched to the end 😁
I'm dealing with much smaller tanks, but I still needed to plan ahead.
I have some fish that just seem to self destruct if you move them.
I moved a few at a time, versus catching them all at once, and that alleviated the problem.
They also went into a tank double the size of their old one.
It's been a month and everyone is still doing great.

I watched it twice. I usually watch your videos on 1.5 or 2x speed. The first time, I was calculating acrylic costs for a tank on another page while it was playing, then I watched it again and paid attention. This video is 1/3 the length of your live streams and only about 6 minutes longer than most of your videos, so it's not that far outside the norm. Top 5 reasons I watched it (twice) (and people love lists):
    1. Eventually I have to move a 55g tank out of my 1 bedroom apartment.
    2. I plan to build multiple 350g tanks in the condo/house I move to.
    3. I love information, even I may not immediately need it.
    4. I'm on a mission to eventually watch all of the videos.
    5. Handsome host.

well since you asked lol: I'm starting up my first tank and and was looking around youtube for tips. You guys are the best fish-tubers i've found! The only problem I have, and it's totally a ME thing, but sometimes Lisa talks a bit slow. I'm a new yorker, and i guess i just expect people to talk a mile a minuet. You guys have great information and are really entertaining, so I got it the habit of watching your videos at 1.5 - 2x speed. (This also lead to a lot of confusion when i finally got my fish why they weren't NEARLY as fast as yours lol) I wish all your videos were tis long, because the way i watch, the average 5 min!

I love your videos. I have learned so much from you and Lisa about this hobby. And honestly I wasn’t to thrilled when the old man said I want a fish tank and I’m telling you it’s been a struggle to keep him on track. He’s that person who goes in not knowing what he wants , buys the fish has them for a bit then decides they’re not working out so then had to find a new home for them. We have a 29 long that has elephant ear/fancy guppies( cobra, platinum, turquoise, snake skin) , and yes they have bred a few times. Then we have a 55 gal with 2 angels, 6 cardinal tetras, a doz orange molly , 1 lonely female beta and that one has some beautiful mystery snails in it also. We had a common pleco but rehoused him to our son when he started chasing the angels around snd eating the snails, lol. Any advice you can give I would greatly appreciate on maybe what to do with the e snails or mollies if they keep breeding like the have been.😳

Heck yeah I made it all the way through 😁
What an ordeal. I'd have moved the big boy down there too but two smaller tanks might be just as cool.
When you were making your plans early on, what did you do about electric. Dis you add outlets or were there enough in place already? That's my biggest hangup with my (much smaller) fish room. Soooo many extention cords. Did you consider installing pvc drsinage prior to moving everything for easier water changes? I'd love to have a turn key setup. I wish I had found CZcams prior to moving my tanks in.

pretty sure I was brought here because of my move searches. Just moved 3 aquariums to my new house. one tank, 20gal tall community live planted tank was being transferred to a 60 gallon. I had to set the 60 gal up first, let it run for a few days while it heated up and stabilized, then I went to the house and bagged my fish up in groups and put them all in a cooler. I drained all the water except about an inch or so in each tank, uprooted all plants into a bucket with all filter media. The 20 gal went to a blue craw-dad who was in a tote pond, so I was trying to keep it preserved. All filter media went to the new canister filter on the 60. (crawdad gets a sponge filter and didn't need the old hob, I layer my hobs with bio sponge and filter stones) Replanting ALLL the plants was tedious and I was terrified my fish wouldn't make It by the time I was done. But I kept them stable and in the cooler the whole time. Everyone has survived the transfer from one house to the other about 30 minutes away and the time it took to set up. it was about 8 hours from start to finish project. If I can do it, anyone can, but yes, make a plan!

  • @thebreezemattwrasmann7881

Watched all the way to the end. We have 10 aquariums ranging from 20 to 125 gallons. We have moved them from room to room sometimes, and one "rescue" tank we brought from someone else's house that couldn't care for the fish anymore. At some point, we will sell this house and move to another house. THAT will be an intense effort. But seriously, the main reason I watched to the end was with the hope Lisa would be on camera....I was disappointed obviously...😁 Keep the videos coming KG Tropicals 👍

I enjoyed the video, I watched all the way to the end. Just downsized from a 75 gal to a 55 gal and had to move the 75 out and put a new 55 in a different room altogether. It took quite a bit of planning, and it was the right decision to downsize. My 75 had a painted black background, and although I was unsure of it at first, I came to appreciate it over time. The new 55 has a 50% film on the back and I may have to revisit that in the future to make it darker. I enjoy your videos, you both make them real.

A friend of mine sent me a picture of an Oscar on Fourth of July and asked me if I wanted it, with poor judgment I said yes I've never had a fish before so I had to learn fast. Turns out that the owner had abandon it in the house that my friend was clearing out, I went to look at the fish the next day only to find out that he would be removed any other way necessary if I didn't take him that day. Which probably meant they would try to flush him or let him go in a pond somewhere. Of course I brought him home. I was unsure of my moving technique the whole time transporting a 1 year old Oscar in a pickup truck on a hot day 45 minutes away. As it turns out the previous owner fed him a lot of goldfish which led to it having hole in the head disease. I've heard that one way to treat it is frequent water changes and aquarium salt. So my plan is to do weekly water changes with plenty of aquarium salt as directed of course. I just wanted to share my story I know it's long-winded but I've been looking for fish transport videos since he was offered to me. Now I'm looking for advice on how to treat hole in the head disease.

    a) I watched all the way to the end because I'm always afraid I'll miss something, and this was so much shorter than the livestreams that it wasn't a problem lol b) Love your videos and content, you've helped me a lot c) What is the pinkish red cichlid in the big tank? I know you've mentioned it before but I can't remember; really pretty fish d) Judging by the way you were bobbing and weaving during your closing "speech", I think you had too much caffeine during the day lol e) My wallet is spared the slimming effect of buying a really big tank by the fact that I do not have a cement floor anywhere that would support the weight. I think that's a good thing? I'm afraid to go over 75g.

I failed miserably at applying your advice for our in-town move a month ago. I set up fully functioning tanks at the new spot well ahead of time & dedicated a day exclusively the fish's transport. Tested pH & the whole nine. Almost all of my fish died. I was heartbroken

Years ago when I moved same thing happened except for the one tank that I transported the water from the old tank, that tank nothing was lost. New house may have different water parameters you can't read such as chlorine and chloramine levels. That's what happened to me.

Suggestion for anyone moving tanks downstairs from experience of single-handedly moving 125gal down steep and narrow 1920s stairs (abut twice the length of yours, third of the width): use a sheet of thick plywood of similar size as the bottom of the tank but slightly larger under the tank. I anyway make such layer under each of my tanks, no matter the stand, helps in protection and fine leveling (I use 3/4" under my 50 and 75, sandwich of two of them glued to get 1.5" under 125). Experience of moving 50gal and 75gal like that helped, not trivial, doable with care.

Hi, im new to fish keeping. I’m setting up a 40 gallon community aquarium. However, i dont have much knowledge on the amount of each fish i should be putting in and the limit of fish that can be in the tank without overstocking. Its going to be semi planted since im still a beginner on planted aquariums and i will be using a sponge filter and heater. I want to keep 6 cory catfish as bottom dwellers but need stocking options for the other fish and how many of each i should keep. Please help.

John I stayed to watch because I’ve moved a lot of big tanks and I wanted to see how you were going to do it. I do have to add it seems like every time I move my tanks it’s up and down stairs đŸ€”. I guess I should just make up my mind and be happy with my tank location. Thank god for four sons.
