We are very grateful for these tiny homes. Each has been donated by either individual contractors or supporters. They are super adorable. Maybe small but do-able. Misconception on everyone having addiction problems. Try renting from someone that takes 7,000 for rent and illegally kicks you out!! This is far better than a shelter or the streets. Not everyone is forunate to have a place to call their own. Yes this is a stepping stone but like i stated a respite stop to back on your feet. Rent is 30/70 tapping out at only $500. Depending on income. Before you judge imagine what it feels like to loose everything!! Your pets included. When so much is taken its hard to remember your own identity......

1:15 "Just broke ground TODAY on the Big Island..." Really? That is the fastest build in 1 day I've ever seen with residents, houses, gardens, lawns, running water, hoses, etc. How much did it cost per house? Where does the water come from? Where does Power come from? How much.is the rent per month with expenses? How much did it cost to build the project? How much does it cost and take to maintain the "kauhale" project. many questions... unanswered... for people who really live in the streets

It costs 145k per unit, 7 million total. Then the rent is 750 per unit, if the res cant pay then the government then pays. The company spent 200,000 and the rest was funded by the government and other non-profits, but the company will receive at least 500,000 per year in rent. How much did they donate to the politician to get this deal....not sure but they will keep him in power to increase there wealth for sure.

Are you asking so you can help pay for homeless homes. That’s great! All you who have so much extra money are invited to help those less fortunate. Nobody needs a Gigantic 50 million dollar house. Keep a simple eye and give to those in need and you will be much happier. People don’t have to wait for government to do this, people can talk to their accountants, buy up available land and put tiny homes on it, and you can screen whoever you want to live in those homes. It can be done all over . ❤ Tiny homes surrounded by fruit trees and other vegetation?

Sooo needed .... I'm here in Oahu and my transition out of homelessness was fast tracked only because I was able bodied, actively employed, and fortunately followed my heart and traveled from Brooklyn with all my personal documents. Otherwise it would've been very challenging. I know some individuals denied assistance out of their situation because they don't have what they need to identify themselves.

This is an example how the rich stay rich and poor stay poor. This project costs the government (tax payers) 7 million dollars, around 145k per house and 42 people being helped. The government gives the politicians donors / friends the 7 million to build and its owned by them. Then they charge Rent around 750-1250 dollars per unit that the government pays for. And now the company collects 500,000 per year on a zero investment property just so they can funnel money back to the politician to keep them in power.

If the goal is to reduce the number of homeless individuals, why not consider revising the zoning laws? Currently, each available lot for sale on Oahu, where I reside, is approximately 5,000 square feet and costs around $400,000. However, if Hawaii allowed the sale of smaller lot sizes, such as 500 square feet, instead of the current price of $400K, it would be possible to purchase a lot for $40,000. This would be ideal for building a tiny home.

It will get overpopulated by desperate islanders then eventually become overrun and taken over by addicts and criminals.
