Heart of Gathering: Legacy Boxing Club Builds Confidence in (and Outside) the Ring | Eventbrite

Heart of Gathering celebrates the diversity of live experiences by shining a light on organizers with vibrant communities. In this episode, Yessenia Montalvo tells us how she founded Legacy Boxing Club in Wayne, New Jersey as a way to help people of all ages and demographics build themselves up through the sport. Yessenia found boxing as a way to combat her own demons, and she teaches us and her students how boxing can be an antidote to depression and bullying. She involves her community to spread the word about empowerment and inclusivity through physical activity. Her students range from kids to seniors, but she places a special emphasis on her youth boxing program.

Where in Wayne are there at risk low income communities? The gym was more sustainable opening it up in Wayne and there’s nothing wrong with that. We need more boxing gyms in NJ. But dont trivialize those that are really at risk. You can tell your story with out it.
