If I remember correctly, there was a story about how this stuff gets made. Essentially, an official order is completed at a factory in China. Once that first run is complete, the factory owner or someone with access to the schematics either sells it to another factory down the road OR does another unapproved run through their own assembly line. Since it's not the first official run, the next factory uses whatever material that's cheapest to them to make it yielding similar looking but less durable products. If the original factory does an unapproved second or third run you end up with a better product but typically missing the logos. However, they're way less likely to conduct strict quality control.
The wish dashcam actually seems better visual quality than the real thing. Though "HD" is clearly a lie for both.
The wish one for sure had way better video, but crap audio. If it didn't go onto the rearview mirror, I'd buy it **shrug**
Anything can be called HD if the resolution is HD. The megapixels could be low and cause bad picture quality.

All these companies should pay a penalty fee for false advertising. It kills me when all these products say HD in their packaging and when the consumer use them for the first time, they be like WTF? Maby its "HD" for a blind person. No offense to blind people.
Actually I think the Wish "dash cam" was better than the As Seen on TV one.

If you need a cheap quality dashcam just use a old smartphone you have laying around and download a app. Works well actually.
I used to order quite a bit of stuff from overseas, but as the wait times became longer and longer I ordered less and less. The last item stated that for extra I could get it within two weeks. FOUR months later it got here. I can't think of anything I would need badly enough to order from across the sea ever again.

The real hd mirror cam looks like a home video on 70s film!
When I worked in Walmart sporting goods, I steered people away from the taclights. Ozark trail lights are heavier and brighter. They also give you a lumen value as opposed to the taclight that gives a multiple.
It's called Wish because you "wish" you got what you expected.😉

Yeah, I compared wish with aliexpress. I uninstalled wish. It was horrid. And not even competitive with aliexpress any way. And quality is more questionable.
“Wish, shopping made fun!” Very accurate, because you wish you get the stuff you ordered and if so, laugh yourself sick with the quality. Thats my experience with it. Ali is better, but its not like they have never sent pure crap to me. Their motto could be “AliExpress - hit and miss”..
Fyi "as seen on tv"logo and sign are not copyrighted so any one can use it.
Ya'll remember those sweet balsa wood gliders from the 80's? 2 in a pack for 25 cents...puts these rocket copters to shame.

I must be a little bit older than y’all I bought them in the mid 60’s. Propeller planes were the best!
Oh, more like the 50's. I'm old enough to remember my brothers getting them for birthdays, they were so unique for the time. They were sold for the two-pack in woolworths 5 & 10. Now that's a memory stretch.

The good thing is they are half the price, you can't do that with the same materials and still profit
These are the infamous third shift products, aka when factory owners keep a line that has been configured for a product running after hours with their own resources and personnel which results in slightly inferior products

It looks like a factory light they are often on chimneys so that hobby pilots doesn't acedantly crash into them

Not as bad as you think,if you know what you’re looking for you can actually get bargains
The only things I'll buy from wish are things like D&D Dice, figurines, some random knick knacks and what not. never anything that I'd be using roughly. Mostly buy display pieces that are of at least decent quality. But most things from wish are just worthless
If you know what you are looking for and are cautious wish isn’t that bad, I’ve bought a good few things from wish and still use them.
I personally haven't had a problem with anything on wish

The elastic is expiring. I don't see how those rocket things can be at all thrilling. It just goes up and down. Maybe if it flew a bit I'd find it a bit more interesting. That toy is throwing money to the wind.
The best as seen on TV product I think I've owned is the Ove Glove, I always hated not having the ability to use my fingers when taking things out of the oven. It doesn't work for things that are super hot like 500°+ but still useful

Yes absolutely... also often they just run the entire product line after hours and sell off label. Computer circuit board manufacturers for name brand companies often run 2 shifts of name brand and 1 night shift off brand the copyright company owner is not told about

I've lived in Vegas for many years, and it's my understanding that they're for air travel, when it gets dark it's kinda hard to see where the mountain is for a helicopter, so it's a safety thing

James, great video as usual. On the Taclight, the fast strobe is not in the SOS pattern. It is considered a "Disruptive" strobe. It is meant to disrupt and confuse an assailant when shined at his eyes

sos is a Morris code sequence, not a slow sos, the slower one is a sos. The fast is designed to be a defensive strobe . making it harder for a attacker to focus on you. giving you a slight advantage to either get away, or giving you a chance to wack the guy when he turns from the bright flashing light .
Wish is crap, takes forever to get, IF you get it at all.
Wish is crap and it's not even cheap because China has free shipping so the money for shipping goes to the seller. But Aliexpress is pretty good if you're picky with what you order.
SvobodovaEva I favor AliExpress over any platform for goodies and stuff, has free shipping and way better deals and cheaper things than Wish.
@@ShiningStars2296 Yes, I've got some amazing stuff from there over the years. It's not as deceiving as Wish or Amazon, probably because their refund policy works very well.
SvobodovaEva I've heard their return policy is pretty good, I can't speak for myself since every package I've received from there has arrived in time and in a good shape so far. I have yet to take some packages from the post office that arrived last week, I hope everything is okay but so far I have no complaints with AliExpress.

I know that it might have been beyond the scope of the video, but an important test for sunglasses is their UV blocking ability. If they reduce visible light transmission, but not block the UV, the eye's iris will dilate, and let in even more damaging UV than wearing no sunglasses at all. For that reason alone, I will never buy cheap sunnies.

I almost purchased from Wish once, until I noticed that they add their fees( taxes) individually for each product. Which in the end is a massive amount of extra money.

slap chop has been around since the 60's, possible since the fifties (used one as a kid in1967), no fancy name back then was just known as a chopper. Glass jar with screw on lid, and the blades were just an "x". Still have and use my mom's and picked up a spare at a yard sale 10 years ago, in case jar ever breaks.

You should make a second chance video, compiling a bunch of the items you thought poorly of in the past. I think those tongs have a bit of a learning curve and you may grow to like them. I'd like to see a month long run on using those regularly.

Slap chops been around way more then 10 yrs
G brown the idea of slapping something with spinning blades has been around for decades, but the slap chop, made by Vince offer has only been around since the late 90’s
Interestingly, my boss gave us all "Gearlight" flashlights last year. I just grabbed mine because it looks very similar to the Tac Light. It is basically identical to the Wish, including the red button, modes, and even the extra 0s on the zoom. So maybe the Wish is a knockoff of a knockoff?
A lot of things on Wish are actually items that didn’t pass quality control but are still considered “usable quality” so rather that the company losing out on the product, they sell it to other companies (like Wish) for cheaper, so that they aren’t totally losing out on profit. As long as you aren’t expecting for high quality electronics or anything like that, then you’re actually doing your wallet a bit of a favor by buying things that missed a mark on quality control
My problem with wish is getting the stuff I ordered
Think I have only ever had one item not show but I hardly ever order since eBay, for the most part, is better and cheaper 9 times out of 10. They also have real pics of the item not bait and switch you with pictures and names of real items. If Wish didn't charge shipping Wish would win out in price.
I had the same problem. About half of what I ordered from Wish actually showed up. Then, Wish said I "abused their refund policies" and refused to refund my money on things that didn't show up. That's when I was done with Wish.
As Seen On TV doesn't have the best reputation. But it's miles ahead of Wish.

A lot of counterfeit products are made in the same exact factory. Some are not even so much knock offs but factory rejects.

That wasn't a signal for help. To me, it looked like a beacon light of some sort, probably to warn of a hazard as it's a raised protrusion of land. Probably meant for helicopters. I dunno, either way it seems like an automated signal, and it wasn't in a repeating pattern, just a regular on-off sequence.

I am a sucker for time saving, space saving, easy to use kitchen gadgets. Since I started watching James' reviews, I think I've saved several hundred dollars, by not buying things that don't work or only perform poorly. My favorite is the ice cube things that are automatic fails for many reasons and of course the rapid ramen cooker. (It's ramen. 3 minutes in a bowl stovetop or microwave). How much faster do we really need to eat that garbage, which BTW, I am addicted to but I'm in recovery.
