It is not often that a video essay truly changes my mind about something and makes me deeply aware about something that I thought I have always understood. The point that prior fourth wall breaks were something for men, _between_ men and that now it is the woman being acknowledged and validated is a brilliant insight. Thank you truly !

I wonder if this is why let's-play youtubers became so popular. It's someone looking back at you and going, "Holy shit, you saw that, right?" It pulls you into not only the game, but the playing of the game in a way that you can't get when either watching a silent play-through nor playing yourself.
This is a phenomenal analysis of gaze and I adore the observation about 4th wall breaks by women as it relates to the gaze.

Well you are always brilliant! I loved the aspects on bell hooks of course. I feel like Oppositional Gaze also plays into Joey's thoughts on propaganda of the self. As you said we want to be TRULY SEEN, the only way we get there is by attempting however poorly to show wholeness in character, camera, journey, and gaze. No matter how messy.
I appreciate your perspective so much. Thank you for this as it was very thought provoking.
